Lethbridge police are investigating a serious assault that took place during the early morning hours of Saturday.

At approximately 3:13 a.m., an injured woman attended the police station and reported she had been attacked by an unknown male in the area of 6 Avenue South near the Civic Centre.

The 38-year-old woman reported that an unknown male approached her, solicited her for sex, and, when she refused, assaulted her.

She ultimately escaped and ran out into traffic along 6 Avenue South where multiple vehicles drove past her before a taxi stopped and transported her to the police station.

EMS was subsequently called and transported the victim to Chinook Regional Hospital for treatment of serious head and facial injuries. She has since been released.

The suspect is described a black male, approximately 5’9″ tall, 160 lbs., with short brush cut-style hair and a heavy accent. He was wearing a white or cream-coloured hoodie and possibly jeans.

Police are asking any motorists who were driving in the area and saw the woman or anyone else with information about this assault to call 403-328-4444 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
