Helen Schuler Nature Centre will offer a series of Garden Workshops over the next four months.
The series includes:
– June 13, 7-9 p.m. – “What is in the Leaf Litter & Why Does it Matter to Us?” Join Dan Johnson, Professor of Environmental Science, University of Lethbridge, and some of his live insects for this revealing presentation.
Johnson will help you discover what insects lie beneath the leaf litter and what their role is in helping to keep pests out of the garden.
– July 11, 7-9 p.m. – “Fall for Bees.” Join Chelsea Sherbut, beekeeper and member of the Lethbridge Bee Enthusiasts, for an un-bee-lievable presentation and honey tasting. Discover what’s going on in bee hives in the fall and winter months and what you can do to help the bees in your neighbourhood come back stronger and healthier next year.
– Aug. 8, 7-9 p.m. – “An Introduction to Aquaponics & Hydroponics.” Join Curtis Goodman for this absorbing presentation and a chance to win your very own aquaponic garden. Goodman will show how to create a maintenance-free garden without soil for your home.
– Sept. 12, 7-9 p.m. – “Bulb Planting Outdoors & Forcing Bulbs Indoors.” Join Joanna Fraser to learn about bulb selection, preparing soil, choosing suitable bulb sites and how to plant the right way up. Watch a demonstration of how to “trick” the bulbs into flowering indoors during the winter months.
Cost is $15 per class or $55 for all four. Call the Nature Centre at 403-320-3064 to register.
Space is limited.
