The City of Lethbridge is asking citizens to refrain from smoking in the river valley due to the extreme dry conditions.
“The risk of ignition to the grassland is at an extreme level and being diligent with smoking material is vital in order to keep our city safe,” officials said.
Residents are also reminded that the City of Lethbridge is still under a complete city-wide fire ban and any open fires are prohibited.
“In addition, when smoking inside your vehicle always use a metal ashtray and do note throw ashes or butts out the window. When smoking outside your house, please deposit any smoking material into a metal container filled with water or sand. Do not dispose of smoking material into a flower pot or throw it on the ground. The City thanks residents for helping to ensure we have a fire safe community.”
