It’s a school competition with a difference.
Individual students and teams will turn up Friday morning, armed with their latest poems.
Noble Central School in Nobleford will be holding its second “Poetry Slam,” with winners eligible to compete in provincial finals.
Teacher-sponsor Desiree Lamb says a total of 30 poems will be presented to a potentially boisterous rowd.
It’s an opportunity for students to find their voice, express their creativity and boost their confidence on a stage setting, she says. A panel of judges, including Lethbridge MP Rachael Harder, will select the winners.
Published poets Blaine Greenwood and Richard Stevenson will also serve as judges.
The Noble Central event is believed to be the only competition in southern Alberta, organizers say.
The event is scheduled to run from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday in the school gym.
