Students display speech skills

LETHBRIDGE HERALD

Each year the Lethbridge chapter of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows holds a speech competition for local high school students.

This year’s competition took place Nov. 25, with first place won by Dewuni de Silva, >a Grade 10 student at Winston Churchill High School. Her winning speech topic was “Anxiety.”

Second Place went to Andy Sun, >a Grade 11 student at Winston Churchill High School whose topic was “E-Commerce and Online Shopping.”

Desiree Hosack, > a Grade 11 student at Catholic Central High School, took third place with the topic “Vimy Ridge.”

Others competing in the contest were Mathieu Lebon-Volia, a Grade 11 student at LCI, with his topic on “Refugees,” and Odessa Hudson, a Grade 11 student also from LCI with her very interesting speech on “Words and Definitions in Today’s World.”

Prizes were $500 for first place, $250 for second and $100 for third.
