It’s a “can you top this?” event with an emphasis on “can.”
The 2018 edition of CANstruction is set to return to Centre Village Mall to help supply local food banks.
The event challenges participating teams to use canned goods to create elaborate sculptures which will be evaluated by a panel of judges. There are several categories, including the People’s Choice award.
At the end of the event, the canned food products are donated to the Interfaith Food Bank Society of Lethbridge, Lethbridge Food Bank and Lethbridge College Food Bank to help stock the shelves and assist people in need in Lethbridge and area.
This year’s CANstruction competition will feature 10 teams, including four teams from local high schools with support from Career Transitions.
Structures will be CANstructed on Thursday, March 1 beginning at 9 a.m., and will be on display at Centre Village Mall during mall hours until March 28. DeCANstruction takes place March 29.
Photos of the winning projects will be submitted to an international competition where they will compete with the best CANsculptures from across North America. For photos of previous contest entries, visit http://www.canstruction.org.
The Lethbridge event is sponsored by Associated Engineering, B93 and Country 95.5, along with Stone Age Granite, MPE Engineering, Tetra Tech, College Ford, Mike Spencer Geometrics, Melcor and Royal Bank.
Last year’s CANstruction event collected more than 11,000 cans of food, equating to over $12,700 in support for local food banks.
