Champion School student to host Kraft Dinner domino event to raise donations for Vulcan food bank

By Lethbridge Herald on June 16, 2015.

A Grade 5 student at Champion School is working to collect 1,500 boxes of Kraft Dinner to donate to the Vulcan Regional Food Bank Society.
Cale Warren, 11, will set up the donated boxes of macaroni and cheese on the floor of his school’s gymnasium and knock them down like a series of dominoes at a special assembly starting at 2:15 p.m. on June 24. He did a similar display two years ago, when he collected 1,464 boxes of KD.
To contribute to Warren’s cause, the public is invited to buy a case of KD for $10 by contacting him through the school at 403-897-3831, or by dropping off donations to the school at 310 Main Street, Champion. Donations can also be dropped off at Palliser Regional Schools’ central office in Lethbridge at 3305-18 Ave. N. no later than 4:30 p.m. on June 22 for inclusion in Warren’s event.
Champion School principal Greg Rollingson said he’s incredibly proud of Warren’s initiative and commitment to community service. Warren was waiting for a doctor’s appointment when he heard about using Kraft Dinner as dominoes. The conversation moved him to create a fun way to support the food bank in his area.
He discovered a passion for dominoes at about age five, and encourages other young southern Albertans to use their own interests for the good of the community.
“I’d recommend other kids try it,” he recently told Food Banks Canada, which plans to feature Cale’s story on the national organization’s blog. “It’s good for people, and it feels good to make a difference. When you help people, make it your own. Do what you like, and use that to help others.”
