Premier Designate Rachel Notley announced today Brian Mason has been appointed the new Government House Leader.
“I’m very pleased to appoint Brian Mason as the new House Leader,” said Notley in a press release. “Brian is a veteran member of the Alberta Legislature and will provide wisdom, leadership and guidance in the Assembly as we move forward with our plan for all Albertans in the Legislature next month. Brian will be reaching out to the opposition caucus house leaders in the coming days to talk about the upcoming session.”
“I’m very honoured to have received this appointment from our incoming premier,” added Mason. “I look forward to working together with our new caucus. I’m also looking forward to working with opposition members of the Legislature in the days ahead, demonstrating that we can disagree without being disagreeable.”
Notley announced on May 20 that it is her intention to have the Legislature recalled on June 11 to elect a Speaker, with a Speech from the Throne to be delivered on June 15. The new premier and her cabinet will be sworn into office on Sunday, May 24 at 2 p.m. at the Alberta Legislature.
