By The Canadian Press on April 16, 2018.

EDMONTON – A charge of impaired driving causing death has been laid after a 16-year-old girl died in a truck-pedestrian collision in Edmonton.

Police say the accident happened at a marked crosswalk in a north-central neighbourhood around 11:00 p.m. Sunday.

They say the pickup truck fled from the scene but an off-duty police officer who was driving by saw what happened and followed the vehicle while providing information to a 911 dispatcher.

An arrest was made soon after.

The girl was treated at the scene but was pronounced dead soon after arrival at hospital.

Shane Stevenson, who is 47, is also charged with driving over the legal limit causing death and hit and run causing death.
