1921 ~ HUBBARD ~ 2013
Our mother, Rose Christine Hubbard, went to be with the Lord on June 21, 2013 at the age of 91 with her youngest daughter Michele by her side. She will be lovingly remembered by eight children: John (Mabel Schafer), Medicine Hat, AB; Judy Bastura (Stan), Taber, AB; Dorothy Hicks (David), Moose Jaw, SK; Margo Krecsy (Mark), Regina, SK; Jeanne Hoag (Dale), Moose Jaw, SK; Gordon (Val), Regina, SK; Perry (Debbie) Kipling, SK; Michele Crabtree (John), Medicine Hat, AB; twenty-six grandchildren; forty-one great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; sister-in-law Marie Vedres, Lethbridge, AB; son-in-law Norman Hull, Redcliff, AB; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
Mom was predeceased by loving husband Lowell (June 21,1990); daughter Betty Hull; infant great grandson Dominique Hubbard; son-in-law Mike Lukacs; daughter-in-law Susan Hubbard; her parents Joe and Elizabeth Vedres; 6 brothers and 4 sisters; father and mother-in-law Noel and Ione Hubbard; as well as brothers and sisters-in-law. Mom was born in Atwater, SK on August 30, 1921 and lived in various areas of Saskatchewan during her upbringing. She and her husband Lowell were married October 21, 1940 at Lake Lenore, SK. They moved to southern Alberta in 1941 and eventually settled in Lethbridge, AB. In 1963 Lowell joined the ministry of the United Church of Canada serving pastoral charges in Gravelbourg, Marquis, and Kipling, SK. In 1980 they moved back to Alberta to Coaldale, then to Lethbridge; and finally moving to Medicine Hat in 1990 where she has resided ever since. Rose joined the United Church in 1947 and until recently was a very active member. She was a chartered member of the Lethbridge First United Church U.C.W., held offices as an elder, delegate to Presbytery and Conference, U.C.W., president, unit president, treasurer, catering convener and executive of Presbytery Mission, Stewardship and Finance. She sang in church and community choirs and helped with Sunday school, Youth Groups, and cooked at Church Camps.
She was also a member of many community service groups: Willing Workers in Grantham, AB, Ladies Aid and Royal Purple in Milk River, Legion auxiliary and Hospital Guild in Kipling, and kitchen convener at the Coaldale Senior Citizens organization. She was a member of the Life Goes On Group in Medicine Hat after Dad’s passing. Besides being a very busy homemaker, Mom was employed by the Broder Canning Company in Lethbridge, Kipling Hospital (dietary), and the Christian Book Store in Coaldale. Mom loved serving others and her community volunteering at the Hospital and Neighbourhood Kitchen in Medicine Hat. Although Mom loved serving others, her greatest joy was being a loving wife and mother, grandmother, great grandmother, special aunt and friend. Not only did she raise a large family of her own, she fostered two babies and a 10 year old girl. Mom always had room for one or several more and enjoyed the many visits from family and friends. She loved to cook and bake, sew, crochet, play cards and games, read and write. I2012 “The Caboose Story” was completed and published for the enjoyment of family and friends. Mom had an amazing memory and never forgot a birthday, anniversary or special occasion.
She loved all sports and enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren play. The Blue Jays were her favorite baseball team and even while hospitalized she enjoyed watching them, especially pleased they had won 8 in a row! After their retirement, Mom and Dad enjoyed traveling. They went to California and took numerous camping trips but their most meaningful vacation was to the Holy Land. After Dad’s passing, Mom continued traveling via Greyhound bus earning the nickname “rambling Rose” by her many relatives who welcomed her visits. Mom was always there when we needed a hand with babysitting or moving and travelled between our homes for special events and ceremonies. Mom had strong Christian values and believed in the power of prayer. She had strong faith, unwavering devotion and love that never ended. She will be dearly missed! JEFF DE HEER
1934 ~ 2013
That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. Romans 10: 9-10 It is with great sadness and great peace we bid farewell to our dear Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Brother, and Friend, Jeff de Heer of 78 years farewell, knowing he now rests in the arms of his precious Savior Jesus Christ till we meet again.
Jeff was a man with a deep abiding faith in his heavenly father, the salvation he had in his Lord Jesus Christ and the infallible word of God; the Holy Bible. Jeff was born on November 18, 1934 to Jasper and Clara de Heer in the Netherlands, the third of twelve children. At the age of sixteen years, Jeff immigrated to Canada with his family under duress as he would never have left the Netherlands of his own accord. 1960 brought Jeff in contact with the love of his life Miss Cecilia Mehrer and on November 10, 1962 they were married until death due they part which would be in 1987 just five months shy of 25 years. God blessed Jeff and Cecilia with four children; Katherine, Ramona, Teresa and Jasper-John (Jay).
Jeff de Heer was a great husband and father, not perfect but great… Dad, your children watched first through the eyes of a child and then later through the eyes of an adult; our Father, Jeff worked fifteen and sixteen hours a day. A man who had his struggles and burdens to bear, a man who came to this country uneducated, unable to speak the language, who taught us- his children, all we needed to know about love, commitment, kindness, perseverance, faith and hard work by the simple eloquence of his example.
Left to mourn and celebrate the blessing Jeff was in our lives are
daughters: Katherine (Larry) Canfield of Stirling, AB, Ramona (Ken) Braun of Oxbow, SK, Teresa (Calvin) Gardner of Stirling, AB; son:
Jasper-John (Lisa) de Heer of Blackfalds, AB; grandchildren: Byron
(Kaylee) Canfield, Patricia Canfield (Chad), Lawrence (Crystal) Canfield, Neil, Ethan, Jessie, Kyle and Brett Braun, Keith Gardner (Jenn), Nicole and Rebecca Gardner, Cole and Shelby de Heer; great-
grandchildren: Kathleen, Emma and Roxanne Canfield, Lucas Canfield and Jeffrey Gardner; and five brothers and four sisters.
Jeff was predeceased by his wife Cecilia de Heer, his parents Jasper and Clara de Heer, infant brother, a sister Jaqueline, a nephew Kenny de Heer, sister-in-law Helen de Heer and parents-in-law John and Lydia Mehrer.
A Visitation will be held between 7:00-9:00pm on Thursday, June 27,
2013 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610- 4th Street South, Lethbridge.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:30pm on Friday, June 28, 2013 at TRINITY REFORMED CHURCH, 1100 40th Avenue, Lethbridge.

Condolences may be forwarded by visiting our website at http://www.southlandfuneral.com.
Kay is survived by her children Jude Keast (Helen Nelson) of Toronto, Philip Keast of Edmonton, Caroline (Simon) Tang of Vancouver and Linda van Voorthuizen of Toronto; grandchildren Kathy, Brenda, Giorgi, Philip, Iain, Alastair, Sophia and great granddaughter Maya Katherine. She is also survived by her brothers Michael James, Jude James and their families in the United Kingdom.
She was predeceased by her husband John E.V. Keast, sister Rose Eyers, brother Tony James, brother-in-law Roy Eyers, sisters-in-law Jean James, Peggy James and Ethel James.
Kay was born January 23, 1923 in Winchester, England. She entered domestic service to help her family during the great depression in the 1930s.
With
the advent of war, she became a driver-mechanic in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (RAF). Post war, she trained as a nurse, becoming a Registered Nurse in the early 1950s. She immigrated to Canada in 1956 with the first three of her children, to join her husband John who emigrated from England ahead of them.
Her introduction to Canada began at the French River in the dead of winter where she learned to tell the difference between the barking of dogs and the howling of wolves! She continued her nursing career in Sudbury, Kirkland Lake and Sioux Lookout in Ontario where she and John added their fourth child to the family. In the mid sixties, the Keast family moved to Alberta and she retired from full time nursing a few years later to become an avid, full time gardener. It was said by her friends in Taber that if Kay Keast couldn’t grow it, it couldn’t be grown!
Kay had little in the way of diplomatic skills which meant that you always knew what she thought about a particular subject and where you stood with her. Her love was not uncritical but it was unconditional! She will be missed by family and friends alike.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Kay’s name may be made directly to STARS, 1441 Aviation Park NE, PO Box 570, Calgary, Alberta T2E 8M7 (www.stars.ca).
The family extends a grateful thank you to the staff and residents of the Clearview Lodge, the Linden View care facility and Dr. Hughes and staff of the Taber Health Centre, Active Care Unit for the care and compassion shown to Kay during the last few months of her life.
