In Loving Memory
Edward G. Bartel
1958 – 2013
ED BARTEL, beloved husband of Leona Bartel, of Lethbridge, passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at the age of 55 years.
Ed was born on June 27, 1958, in Lethbridge, Alberta, to Edward E. and Katherine Bartel. During his childhood, Ed and his family enjoyed many activities including skiing and taking vacations together. This is also when he developed his strong love for motorcycling and for music in singing, piano, guitar, trombone, and organ. During his high school years, Ed was baptized upon the confession of his faith, and after graduating from LCI, he attended Bethany Bible Institute for two years, where he deepened his relationship with God and made many life-long friendships.
On June 30, 1984, Ed married the love of his life, Leona Hubert. For many years, Ed built houses in Lethbridge and the surrounding area, and together they raised their four children in the three houses that he built for them. On January 17, 2002, Ed’s life was graciously spared after he suffered a massive heart attack. Through this difficult time, he and his family relied on the strength of God, and we were blessed with eleven more years together with him. During this time, Ed worked hard at managing two family-owned apartment buildings, ensuring that his tenants were always well cared for.
Ed took a keen interest in world events and history, which led to his enjoyment of travelling. He also enjoyed spending time with his family through music, singing, going to movies, and especially motorcycling. He also took great pride in the achievements and accomplishments of his family. Ed and Leona treasured weekly date-nights together while their children were growing up, and while celebrating their 29th anniversary together, Ed was suddenly called home to be with his Lord and Savior, as a result of a motorcycle accident.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his children, Gordon (Bethany) Bartel, Ryan (Jenessa) Bartel, Kelly Bartel and Tracy Bartel, all of Lethbridge. He is also survived by his parents Edward E. and Katherine Bartel; his siblings Doris (Don) Wolff; Darlene (Cornell) Friesen; Arnie Bartel; and Don (Donna) Bartel; his mother-in-law, Mary Hubert, as well as in-laws, nieces, and nephews and their families. Ed is predeceased by his father-in-law, David Hubert.
All through his life, Ed was a very active member in serving within the MB churches the family attended – a value that he has passed down to his children. We will always remember Ed to have been a loving, jovial, talented, wise, and generous husband and father. Ed’s strong relationship with God, as expressed in word and deed, was evident to all who knew him. We look forward to being reunited with him again one day.
