ALBERT T. WIEBE
1927 ~ 2013
Albert T. Wiebe of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Alma Wiebe, passed away peacefully September 9, 2013 at the age of 86 years.
Albert was born on March 31, 1927 in Ste. Anne, Manitoba. He grew up on a farm in Greenland, Manitoba. He married Alma Reimer on October 1, 1955 in Steinbach, Manitoba and they began their married life together in Winnipeg. On June 9, 1955 Albert obtained his qualification as a journeyman in the trade of carpentry. As foreman of a bridge construction company, McCaw & McDonald, Albert was known for his intelligence and business abilities as he directed his crew. In the spring of 1964, Albert and Alma and their five children moved to a farm near McCauley, Manitoba. In 1966, the family moved to a farm near Roblin, Manitoba.
Life changed in 1978 when they moved to Coaldale, Alberta where Albert started his own company, Albert Wiebe Construction Ltd, building houses. His expertise, keen business sense, and a “customer comes first” philosophy resulted in a prosperous business and many happy new house owners. In 1991, his company was presented with a Distinguished Builder Award by the Alberta New Home Warranty Program after being in the program for ten years and successfully meeting all customer service obligations.
In 1992, Albert’s 65th birthday party was also to be his retirement party. He was finally going to relax and take some time to travel. After about six months of “retirement”, Albert started taking on a few more projects. Before long, he was a full-time builder again, doing what he loved. By Albert and Alma’s 50th wedding anniversary in 2005, Albert was finally ready to retire. By that that time, he had built about 150 homes in Coaldale, Lethbridge and area. In September 2011, Albert and Alma moved to the Rio Vista, a seniors’ condo in Lethbridge overlooking the coulees and the train trestle. They enjoyed two more wonderful years together, during which time Albert enjoyed cooking meals and hobbies such as small carpentry projects in the condo workshop.
Besides his loving wife Alma, Albert is survived by two daughters, Laureen (Kevin) Hayes and Marcia (Ken) Janzen, and three sons, Alan (Melinda) Wiebe, Randy Wiebe (partner Laura Gilchrist), and Rick Wiebe. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Keila (Ryan) Lammertsen, Ryan Janzen, Michael Hayes, Karen Hayes, Jennifer Wiebe, Kenzie Wiebe, Brett Wiebe, Derek Wiebe, Dani Pettersen, and Sarah Gilchrist; and one great grandchild Jayden Wiebe. Albert is also survived by four sisters, Nellie Wohlgemuth, Irma (Leonard) Dueck, Viola (Jake) Wohlgemuth, Lottie (Eugene) Quasso; one sister-in-law Violet Wiebe; three brothers, Ted (Dora) Wiebe, Cornie (Velma) Wiebe, and Peter (Norma) Wiebe; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Albert was predeceased by his parents Peter (Agnes) Wiebe, brother-in-law Ben Wohlgemuth, sister Annie Wieler, brother Edwin Wiebe, and brother and sister-in-law Jake (Lily) Wiebe.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 7:00 – 8:00 pm on Friday, September 13, 2013 at the COALDALE MENNONITE BRETHREN CHURCH, 2114 – 18 Street, Coaldale.

Flowers are gratefully declined. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to a charity of their choice.
