ALLRED

LOUIE ALLRED, beloved wife of the late Carl Allred, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2013 in Raymond, at the age of 90 years. Funeral arrangements to be announced when completed.

ELLINGSON

DAVID BARRIE ELLINGSON of Lethbridge passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at the age of 59 years. He is the loving son of Wally and Joyce Ellingson of Lethbridge. David is also survived by his sister Pat Aebig and her son Levi, his brother Jim and his children Danny, Kim, Shelby and Madison, as well as many cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his birth mother Violet, his grandmother Annie Barrie, his brother-In-law Rick Aebig, and numerous aunts and uncles. David worked at the Ability Centre (Bottle Depot and on the Lawn Care Crew) for over 35 years. He loved the outdoors and spent many camping trips and functions with his family and friends. His favourite hangouts included The Onion Bar & Grill and Tim Hortons. The family would like to thank his most recent caregivers, Boyd and Dorothy Low, his former caregivers over the years, SACLA and the Rehab Society, and the Paramedics and ER Staff of the Chinook Regional Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME LTD., 2825-32nd Street South on Friday, January 10th 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Glenda Wert officiating. GRACE ELLEN HART (KILBREATH)

1944 ~ 2013

Grace Ellen Hart (Kilbreath) of Lethbridge, Alberta beloved wife of Thomas Hart passed away peacefully December 24, 2013 at the age of 69 years. Grace was born in Saskatchewan and spent most of her childhood living in Uranium City. Grace, along with her young family, settled and lived many years in Calgary Alberta. Grace started working for Tupperware and she became the youngest manager in Canada at the age of 23. Grace was awarded for her achievements with new cars, rings, cruises, television and saved enough to purchase a little bungalow in Calgary. After she reached all her goals in Tupperware, Grace decided to further her education at Mount Royal College, where she majored in English and loved learning French and Spanish as well. Having an entrepreneurial spirit she helped start and manage McLeay Geological Consultants, then Special Touch Event Planning and later Clarke Bookkeeping. Grace and Tom met and fell in love. They had a beautiful Cinderella wedding followed by a dream honeymoon in England. Once the Hart’s retired they followed her daughter Joanne to Lethbridge and have made it their home since. Grace shared a hobby in ‘miniatures’ with Joanne and her granddaughter Kristy. They travelled to conventions and made many tiny things in the M.E.E.T. club of Lethbridge. She was very active with the Newcomers Club and enjoyed socializing with all the new people who just moved to Lethbridge. Grace enjoyed quilting, making many large ones for the family over the years and even a mini one for Joanne. Grace enjoyed the performing arts, travelling around the world and had a talent for writing poetry. She was very fond Christmas and loved to give gifts, she was always very generous. Grace Hart is survived by her loving husband Tomas F. Hart, and the treasures of her heart and life her daughter Joanne McLeay (James Butler) and son Rodger McLeay; her Grandchildren Devin Linnington (Lauri), Dustin Linnington, and Kristy Linnington and great grandson Shayden Linnington; her brother Len Kilbreath (Joyce) and sisters Cathie Harkness (Bob) and Elaine Gallacher (Don) and cousin Sharri Smith who was like a sister. She was loved by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and their families. Grace Hart was predeceased by her parents Clifford and Myrtle Kilbreath, siblings Lester Kilbreath, Delbert Kilbreath and Lois Kilbreath. KINGBROWN STEPHEN RICHARD

1977 ~ 2013

With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Stephen Richard King-Brown who left us unexpectedly just before Christmas. Stephen was the beloved son of Robert and Jenny King-Brown. Also left to mourn are his sister Shannon Campbell (Scott Walker), nephews Aiden and Ryker Campbell, grandparents Richard and Sylvia King-Brown, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Stephen was predeceased by his brother, Michael Hinchcliffe, and grandparents George and Mary Ambrose. Stephen was born in Lethbridge on October 13, 1977. He was an active and loving child. He enjoyed Cubs as a youngster. One of his great passions was baseball and he played on many all-star teams and LCI Rams high school teams. Another passion was being a voracious reader with a wide range of interests. As an adult, he received his business management diploma from Lethbridge Community College. He worked briefly in Calgary and then spent five years working in England. Returning from England, Stephen got his Class I Licence and took up the profession of driving, taking his trucks all over Alberta, British Columbia, and the northwestern United States for the last five years. He loved driving his “big rigs” and called it the greatest video game there was! Sadly, Stephen left us too soon on December 23, 2013. He will be forever remembered in our hearts and will live on in our memories. LOW

DONALD RICHARD (DICK) LOW, beloved husband of Elaine Stevenson Low, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2013 in Cardston, Alberta at the age of 89 years. Dick is survived by his loving wife, Elaine, their six children and spouses, Donald and Susan Low, Gary and Wendie Low, Cathy and John Swendsen, Gordon and Laurie Low, Murray and Nadine Low and Carolyn and Coy Beaton, his sister Helen Usevitch and his brother and his wife, John and Coleen Low, 25 grandchildren and their spouses, 40 great grandchildren and many cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews. Dick was a man devoted to his wife, Elaine, and to his children, to his profession, to his church and to God. He was an outdoorsman and a musician. He is known for his wonderful sense of humour and his friendly and caring way. He was admired by and touched the lives of his family and his many friends and acquaintances. Dick was born in Cardston, Alberta on October 17, 1924 with his twin brother, Bob, to Joseph Smith Low and Margaret Newton, the second of five children. His father, Joe Low, was a rancher and Ford dealer through the depression and as a youth Dick experienced the demands and rigours of his father¹s ranching and automobile businesses. His early adult years were characterized by his education at the University of Alberta as a civil engineer, his military service in the Royal Canadian Engineers near the end of WW2, and his service as a Maori missionary in New Zealand for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he learned their language and came to love the Maori people. Dick loved to sing, had excellent pitch, and traveled southern Alberta to sing in a barbershop quartet, the Temple City Four. Dick and Elaine were married in 1951 in the Cardston temple. In 1957, Dick moved his young family to Calgary to work as a civil engineer, eventually becoming a partner in the firm, Strong Lamb and Nelson (acquired by Stantec), where he planned and managed the development of several subdivisions in Calgary and communities in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. In 1977, Dick moved to Lethbridge, where he planned and supervised the construction of irrigation and water projects in southern Alberta with the engineering firm Underwood McLellan (UMA). He and Elaine moved back to Cardston in 2002. Dick was a keen outdoorsman, and was active throughout his life in hiking, mountain climbing, biking, and downhill, water and cross country skiing. He was both scout leader and involved in scouting for much of his life. Dick was dedicated to his church, and served as a missionary, a teacher, a bishop and in many other leadership capacities throughout his life. In 1991 he served his second mission to New Zealand, this time with Elaine. He was also a member and former president of the Rotary Club in Cardston. Dick was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Stubbs, his twin brother Bob and his grand-daughter Emily. He was a remarkable man who was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by family, friends, and the caring staff at his Lee Crest home. The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Temple Street Chapel (355 – 3rd Street West in Cardston, on Monday, December 30th, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Friends may meet the family from 1:00 to 1:45 pm prior to the service. DONNA LEE MAASAKKERS of Magrath, AB., passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at the age of 65 years. MOGENSEN

ALLAN L. MOGENSEN passed away on December 23, 2013 at the age of 58 years, beloved husband of Lynne Mogensen of Warner. At his request, a private family service will be held.

 

 

RACH

MARGIT RACH of Coaldale, beloved wife and forever sweetheart and Sonnschein, of 60 years, to Stan, passed away peacefully with family at her side, on December 26, 2013 at the age of 80. Margit was born in Pilisborosjeno (Weindorf) Hungary, on October 2, 1933. Margit and family immigrated to Canada in 1956. Margit was a hard working woman who helped everyone and enjoyed spending time with family. She worked so hard, was an exceptional mother, selfless, sacrificed and denied herself so much for her children and her husband. Dad was quick to tell us that while she loved us kids all equally and as much as a mother could love, she loved him the most. Margit instilled in her children the loving and nurturing European traditions and family values that will continue to live through generations to come. Margit was always thinking about others and enjoyed life and sharing stories with her children and friends. She enjoyed gardening and her flower garden flourished under her care. She will be sadly missed and will know that her memory, love, kindness and spirit will live on through those that knew and loved her. Besides her loving and devoted husband of 60 years, Margit is survived by her 4 children and their families: Margit and Doug, Stanley and Judy, Cathy and Stewart and Monica and David, grandchildren Caylee, Brett, Madelaine, Mischa, David and Emily, and great grandchildren Ethan and Nylah. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and many many friends. Margit is predeceased by her parents Roza and Johann Halluk, as well as her younger brothers and sisters. KATHLEEN THURBER-WALL passed away peacefully on December 24, 2013. She is survived by her son Nathaniel, mother Norma, father Tom (Doreen), brother Michael (Nuccia), special nephew Corban, her very best friend Vance, and her aunts, uncles and cousins. MR. HARMEN VAN DER LEE, of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, December 24th, 2013 at the age of 66 years.

He is the loving father of Karen van der Lee of Calgary, Diane (Shawn) Henderson of Lethbridge and the proud grandfather of Alisha & Jayden Henderson and Therin & Delaney Mody. He is also survived by his father Harmen van der Lee Sr. and brothers and sisters Richard (Maria) van der Lee; Edith (Fred) Wolbert; Christopher (Hanna) van der Lee; Valerie (Raeburn) Temple; Peter (Joyce) van der Lee; Joan (Mike) Bley; Harriet Taylor; Greg van der Lee and the Bird family, many nieces and nephews as well as many extended family members. He was predeceased by his loving mother Christine van der Lee. Harmen’s first love and devotion was to God, as well his unconditional love he had for his family. 1936 – 2013

Shirley Jean Crosthwaite, beloved wife of Bill Crosthwaite of Bow Island, passed away peacefully on Christmas day, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 77 years.
A private funeral service was held at Southland Funeral Chapel, Taber on Saturday, December 28, 2013 with Pastor Sheila McLeod officiating.

Besides Bill, her best friend and husband of fifty six years, Shirley is survived by their daughters Debbie (Bert) Michaelis and Marilyn (Dave) Van Gaalen all of Lethbridge. She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren Curtis (Jennifer) Michaelis, Cody (Amanda) Michaelis, Angela Van Gaalen (fiancé Greg), Christopher Van Gaalen, Ryan Van Gaalen and great grandchildren Zachary, Taylor and Dawson Michaelis. She is also survived by her sister Joyce (Bernie) Hanson of Brooks and sister-in-law Thurza (Jack) Peard of Taber and their families.
She was predeceased by her parents Jean (nee Howard) and Trygve Larsen.
Shirley loved her community and enjoyed volunteering her time and many talents to the United Church Women and the Bow Island Hospital Auxiliary.
She was also very active in the Bow Island Art Club. Shirley was a kind hearted, gentle soul who saw the good in everyone. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
