DEIDRICH “DICK” REIMER
1928 ~ 2013
Deidrich “Dick” Reimer of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Bergatha “Betty” Reimer, passed away
peacefully after a lengthy illness on December 31, 2013 at the age of 85 years.
Dick was born on December 4, 1928 to Abram and Margaretha Reimer in Wymark, Saskatchewan. He grew up in a
loving family of 14 children and is survived by his sisters Madeline Ozga of Regina and Irene Gabriel of
Calgary, and brothers Irwin of Simmie, SK and Ernie of Calgary. Dick ventured out from the Saskatchewan
farm for a new life in Southern Alberta where he met and married the love of his life, Betty Areshenko.
Dick and Betty were dedicated to each other for 56 years prior to her passing in 2011 and raised 3
children: Carol Ariza (grandchildren Erin, Ashley, and Holly) of Los Angeles, CA; Richard Reimer of
Stirling (Glory and grandchildren Kevin, Mandy, Kelsie, Mason, Kayley and Mark); and Natalie Shaby of
Manhattan Beach, CA (David and grandchildren Tanya and David).
Dick retired from the Canadian Pacific Railroad in 1986 and was tireless in his care of Betty after she
became a paraplegic. He loved to work in his garden, ride his motorcycles and seadoo, and cruise the city
streets in his prized “Dukes of Hazzard” Dodge Charger. Dick enjoyed traveling and retelling his
adventures to family and friends. He was always up to visit his daughters in Southern California or join
them in Southern France and Germany. Dick was a founding member of the Lethbridge Twinning City and as an
official representative of the City of Lethbridge, traveled to St. Laurent Quebec and Kaizuka, Japan for
exchange programs, to Culver City CA for the Culver City Sister City Committee’s 50th Anniversary
Celebration, and to Washington DC for the Sister Cities International Conference. His home was always
open to host out-of-town visitors or local meetings and functions.
Dick will be remembered for his kind, gentle and patient manner, his fierce independence and his amazing
physical agility. Quick to smile and laugh, his sense of humor endeared him to all who knew him.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW

Helen May Anderson, 94 stepped into eternity on December 17, 2013 at her home Arrowsmith Lodge in
Parksville, BC with her 3 “Angels” close by. Born December 31, 1918 on a Milk River, Alberta homestead to
Harry and Sylvia Lorentzon. She grew up, married Richard Anderson March 1, 1939 in Lethbridge, Alberta,
raised 3 daughters in Lethbridge and at their farm in Stavely. Retiring to Kelowna in 1978 she shared her
love of square dancing, homemakeing, sewing, cooking, travelling, boating, entertaining and gardening.
She moved to Vancouver Island March 2006 living the last 5 years at Arrowsmith Lodge. Predeceased by
husband Richard, sisters; Grace & Gladys, brothers; Roy & Fred, son in law Frank and grandson Kent.
Survived by daughters; Marilynn Kathrein (Michael) Allen, Donna (Phil) Kennedy and Bonnie Anderson
(Varnel), grandchildren; Kim Kathrein, Todd (Carolyn) Kennedy, Jill (Pieter) Stathis, Dean Kennedy, Don
Varnel, Natasha (Cary) Skidmore, Sean Varnel and Roxanne Kathrein, great grandchildren; Meghan, Carter,
Olivia & Alexander and 2 sister in laws; Thelma Lorentzon & Olive Anderson. A Celebration of Life was
held on the afternoon of December 27, 2013 at The Crown Isle, Parksville.

Jean and her twin sister Joan were born in Lethbridge on December 18th, 1918 where she lived a full and
joyful life. She found her greatest joy in her children and grandchildren who will cherish many wonderful
memories.
Jean was predeceased by her husband, Leslie Arthur May; her twin sister Joan Murfin and sisters Hazel
Leys and Phyllis Wernick. Jean is survived by her children: Patricia (Don, deceased) McLeod, Margaret

Travis Lee Halmrast of Warner passed away on Monday, November 25, 2013 at the age of 28 years.
Travis enjoyed his life on the farm especially the hunting and he was an avid hockey player during his
school days.
Travis is lovingly remembered by his wife Marci; his beloved sons Mason & Ethan; his parents Dale
Halmrast and Shauna Lee; sister Sammy Zeeb and Ashtin Halmrast; brother Dean Curtis; his grandma Gloria

NOLIN, Linda Maxine (nee Payne)
April 16, 1949 – Medicine Hat, AB
December 23, 2013 – Calgary, AB
Friends and family of Linda Maxine Nolin sadly announce her passing on Monday, December 23, 2013 at
Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary.
Linda experienced a spinal stroke in September 2013 and succumbed to heart failure in December 2013. Some
may remember Linda as a student at LCI and possibly as a graduate from University of Lethbridge in 1988.
Others may recall her from her days in the jewellery business and her teaching career with children
having special needs. She related well to children from a variety of cultures. Linda moved to Calgary in
2001 where she continued her teaching career in home schooling until her retirement in 2008.
Linda is survived by her long-time friend and companion Bob Alexander of Calgary, AB; siblings, Beryl
Layton (Lynn) of Lethbridge, AB, Glen Payne (Pat) of Lethbridge, AB, and Lloyd Payne (Jean) of Calgary,
AB; along with nieces and nephew, Donna, Perry and Michelle; and numerous grandnieces and nephews. She
was especially fond of step-daughters Julie of Edmonton, AB and Jill of Red Deer, AB.
No Memorial Service will be held, however family and friends will gather at a later date to remember her

ZUBACK
FATHER RICHARD GEORGE ZUBACK, of Lethbridge, passed away at St. Therese Villa on Sunday, December 29,
2013 at the age of 85 years.
Father Richard is remembered by his two brothers John (Verona) Zuback of Thunder Bay, ON and Ray “Wayne”
Zuback of Medicine Hat, Ab. He is also survived by nieces and nephews; Rick (Sandie) Zuback, Mary Carol
(Jim) Gellert, Cathy (Al) Brischuk, Rob (Deb) Zuback, Greg (Marion) Zuback, Catherine Zuback, Cheryl
(Leo) Lalonde and Camille Zuback (Darcy), as well as a great neice Karley Lalonde. Father Richard will
also be fondly remembered by a special cousin Dr. & Mrs. Alfred Pinchak of Cleveland, Ohio.
He was predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Mary Zuback and a sister Geraldine and her husband Calvin
Post.
Father Richard was born May 21, 1928 in Lethbridge and completed his early education at St. Patrick’s
School. He attended seminary at St. Joseph’s in Toronto and completed in Edmonton. He served numerous
parishes including Cleveland, Ohio, Winfield, BC, Grande Prairie, AB and especially in Lethbridge at SS.
Peter & Paul’s Church. Father Richard served as a reserve naval chaplain. He was a unique individual who
was well known. He will be remembered in many ways especially by those in his parish and in choirs that
he sang in.
Prayers-Parastas will be held at the SS. PETER & PAUL UKRAINIAN GREEK-CATHOLIC CHURCH, 643-12 “B” Street
North, Lethbridge, AB on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 7:00 P.M.
A Funeral Divine Liturgy will be held at SS. PETER & PAUL UKRAINIAN GREEK-CATHOLIC CHURCH, 643-12 “B”
Street North, Lethbridge, AB on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 11:00 A.M., presided by Most Reverend Bishop

Helen Peterson
1922 – 2013
Helen Marguerite Peterson (nee Korsa), beloved wife of the late Leo Henry Peterson, passed away
peacefully in Taber on Monday, December 30, 2013 at the age of 91 years.
Helen is survived by her loving children, sons Keith (Joyce) Peterson of Taber and Phil (DeAnn) Peterson
of Idaho Falls,  daughter Jodi Peterson of Raymond. She also leaves to cherish her memory seventeen
grandchildren and their spouses, fifty nine great grandchildren and their spouses and eleven great great
grandchildren; sisters-in-law Jeanette Powell, Carol Korsa, Vera Rowley and Marie Fenske as well as
numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she dearly loved.   
She was predeceased by her husband Leo; daughters Karen Peterson and Beverly Weir; son-in-law Bill Weir;
parents Nicholas and Jane Korsa; twin sister Stepha, sisters Ann (Bill) Allen and Mary (Wilford)
Peterson; brothers George (Margaret) Powell, Alex (Olga) Powell, William (Mary) Powell, Mike Powell,
George Korsa and John Korsa. Helen was also predeceased by Leo¹s family, her father and mother-in-law
Henry and Emma Peterson; brothers-in-law Francis (Irene), Glen (Mabel) and Burl (June) Peterson, as well
as Norman Fenske and Albert Rowley; sisters-in-law Mildred Peterson, Leona Kemper (her husbands Fred
Kemper and Bill Christensen), Melva Peterson, Florence (Clarence) Tufts, Priel (Clifford) Jones, Zella
(Clark) Nielson and twins Marium and Marian Peterson.
Helen was born in Taber March 13, 1922, with her twin sister Stepha, to Nick and Jane Korsa. She was
raised and taught well by her kind and loving parents. Helen married Leo on December 14, 1940 and they
settled on a farm at Cranford. She loved the farm and spent long hours working alongside Leo, caring for
their five children, landscaping the yard, beautifying their home and working in her huge garden. Due to
Leo¹s health, it became necessary to sell the farm and the family moved to Taber in 1962, where Helen
lived out the rest of her life. After Leo¹s death in 1963, Helen worked at several jobs, doing her best
to support her family and worked until age seventy six, when she retired. Helen loved being outdoors,
enjoying nature and teaching her family an appreciation of God¹s creations. She loved fishing, camping,
gardening, made award winning arrangements with her beautiful flowers and she was an excellent cook. Her
greatest joy came from spending time with her beloved family. Helen had a way of making each of us feel
loved and she found unique and creative ways of spoiling us. Even though Helen suffered tremendous loss
and sorrow in her life, her faith remained strong and through her shining example she left a legacy of
Christlike qualities of unconditional love, hard work, endurance, honesty, integrity, joyfulness and
service to others. We were blessed to have our ŒGranny¹ in our lives and she will be greatly cherished
and missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 – 48 Avenue,
Taber on Friday, January 3, 2014 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. and also at the church prior to the
funeral service on Saturday, January 4, 2014 between 10:00 A.M. and 10:40 A.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taber Stake Centre,
4709 – 50 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with Bishop Brock Campbell conducting.
