ALLAN LEITH
1922 ~ 2014
We the family of Allan Leith, are saddened to announce the passing of our dear husband, father,
grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and brother-in-law.
Allan is survived by his wife Lillian, his children Elaine (Darrell) and Barry (Eileen); his
grandchildren Michael (Jay), Jennifer (David) and Patrick (Heather) and his great-grandchildren Joshua
Leith, Danika, Xander, and Rylee Hodges. He will be missed by his brother-in-law Ken Tighe and his
sister-in-law Eileen Tighe and Audrey Leith. He was a beloved uncle by his nieces and nephews in Alberta,
Ontario, and Quebec.
Dad loved his family both near and far. Fortunately he also loved travelling. He came from a family of
five and he and Mom made many trips to visit with family for birthdays, wedding, anniversaries and just
pure pleasure.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW
CHAPEL, 610 4th Street South, Lethbridge. A private graveside service was held at Archmount Cemetery.

Martell
Mr Pascal “Paul” Reginald Martell, husband of the late Victoria Martell and formerly of Edmonton, passed
away peacefully one day short of his 81st birthday at St. Michael’s Health Centre on Thursday, February
27, 2014.
He is survived by his daughter Barbara (John) Lypka of Rosetown, SK; granddaughters Roxanne (Darren)
Lypka, Britt (Mark) Rumph, and Christine (Barry) Thompson and great-granddaughter Leah. Also, surviving
are his siblings Edna, Gladys and Harold (Leona) of Nova Scotia, Flavian of Ontario, as well as many
nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Vicky’s sister Angie (Marshall) Jaremco, niece Melanie Dunne
and sons Braedan and Brett of Lethbridge, nephew Mark (Eloisa) Jaremco and Adam of Edmonton.
Paul is predeceased by his parents Urban and Emma Martell, in-laws Dan and Annie Josul, siblings
Evangeline, Oswald, Delia, Mary, Leonard, Sophie and Emeline.
Paul left his home of L’Ardoise, Cape Breton for Ontario in his teens and soon after to Alberta and worked as a truck driver for 50 years. He was very proud of his career and could spend many hours talking
about his experiences “on the road”. Paul had a great sense of humour and we loved to watch him laugh
until he had to pull his “hankie” out. He loved everything chocolate and was always ready to go for ice
cream and you didn’t have to ask what flavor.
Paul will be well remembered and greatly missed.
Cremation entrusted to Cornerstone Funeral Home, no formal funeral service will be held. Burial of
cremated remains to take place in Edmonton, AB at a later date.

Allan Smith
1929 – 2014
 Allan Lawrence Smith, beloved husband of Margaret Smith, passed away peacefully at the Bow Island Heath
Centre on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the age of 84 years.
 Relatives and friends are invited to a Tribute Service at the Christian Community Church, 415 – 4
Avenue, Burdett on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at 7:30 P.M.
 A private burial service will be held at the Burdett Cemetery prior to the funeral service.
 The Funeral Service will be held at the Christian Community Church, 415 – 4 Avenue, Burdett  on
Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Norman Smith and Pastor Rod Taylor officiating.

Burdett, Barry (Tricia) Smith of Bow Island. Allan¹s family expanded to grandchildren and great
grandchildren Jeff (Lyndsay) Smith (their daughter Madison Smith), Pam (Curtis) Schultz, Brad (Gillian)
Smith (their children Xavier and Elliott), Ranae (Jon) Penner, Justin (Melissa) Mueller, Melanie Mueller,
Curtis (Victoria) Smith, Faith Smith, Jonathan (Taryn) Tycholis, Jason, Christopher and Trevor Tycholis,
Timothy, Thomas and Trista Smith, Brendan and Taryn Smith. Allan is also survived by his younger brother
Darryl
(Bernice) Smith of Calgary as well as numerous nieces and nephews blessed his life and were very special
to him.
 Now Allan is reunited with his predeceased parents Earl and Ethel Smith, sister Leora Smith.
 Allan was born in Medicine Hat and lived his whole life in the Burdett and Bow Island areas. On October
16, 1956 Allan married the love of his life and best friend, Margaret Lane. Together they built and
raised their family on a farm south of Burdett.  Over his fifty five years of farming, he continually
took pride in his diversified farming operations working six days a week long hard hours. As a father and
grandfather he spent many years mentoring his sons and grandsons in farming.
 Allan loved travelling, camping, tinkering in his shop and manicuring his acreage. Creating, inventing
and fabricating were gifts he was blessed with.
He was a lifelong cheerleader of his children and grandchildren¹s extra-curricular activities. Most
importantly, Allan was known as a man of integrity who built his life and family around serving God and
his church.

Willard Soltys1944 – 2014
 It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Willard Haig Soltys on
Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at the age of 69 while traveling in St. George, Utah.
 A private family burial service will be held at the Taber Memorial Garden on Thursday, March 6, 2014.
 Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Italian Canadian Club, 1511 St. Edwards
Boulevard North, Lethbridge on Thursday, March 6, 2014 between 1:00 P.M. and 4:00 P.M. Condolences may be

 Willard will be lovingly remembered by his children, Pam Ellis (Barry) of Strathmore and her children
Jessica and Nick; Monica (Doug) Soltys-Starrett of Strathmore and her daughter Mackenzie; Michele Soltys
(Ken) of Red Deer and her children Jonathon and Nataleah.
 He was predeceased by his loving wife of forty nine years,  Evelyn (née
Foote) Soltys in January 2013.
 Willard was born in Lethbridge on June 23, 1944. He was one of thirteen brothers and sisters who grew up
in the Lethbridge and Hardieville area. As a young man, Willard was always busy finding things to do and
supporting himself, his first official job was at the El Rancho where he began working in the kitchen.
This led to his career of cooking and ultimately becoming a Red Seal Chef and jobs at Sven Eriksen’s as
well as the teaching cook at the Lethbridge Correctional Centre. He then became a Correction Officer and
was acknowledged with a long service medal after thirty two years with the Government. When not working
he loved spontaneous road trips with his girls, traveling the world with Evelyn, golfing, fishing,
puttering around the house and gardening. Willard never stopped for long and could often be heard saying,
“Let’s go!” and he never failed to help out friends and family if ever they needed it. During his
retirement he volunteered at many organizations and worked as a caretaker for Lethbridge Public Schools.
He will be dearly missed by all those who ever had the pleasure of even a moment of his company.
