BARBARA EDNA DAVIES
Barbara Edna Davies (nee Black), beloved wife of the late George B. Davies Jr. passed away peacefully on her 85th Birthday on Tuesday, May 20th, 2014. She was surrounded by her four children: Bart Davies, Sharon Fogtmann, Edward Davies and John Davies.
Barbara was born and raised in Vancouver and spent her childhood summers at Hopkins Landing at the family cottage. She met her late husband George when she attended UBC and was married in Vancouver on October 1, 1952. George and Barbara settled in Lethbridge where her husband George was born and raised. She and George also spent many memorable summers with their four children at Hopkins Landing near Gibsons, B.C.
Barbara enjoyed the YMCA where she was a long time board member and swam on a regular basis. One of her greatest loves was swimming in the ocean both at Hopkins Landing and on Maui every winter. She spent numerous vacations on Maui with her childhood friend Virginia Young from Hopkins Landing, B.C. and then the past three years with her friend Susan Campbell from Cranbrook, B.C..
Barbara enjoyed her home in Lethbridge with a view of the coulees and she loved her summers in Fernie, B.C. at her condo on the golf course. There her majestic views of the mountains reminded her of her childhood growing up in Vancouver, B.C..
In recent years, Barbara looked forward to playing bridge with her friends and made a point of keeping in touch with numerous friends. She kept in close touch with her longtime friend Joyce Arnold over a span of 55 years. She also maintained a lifelong friendship with her two childhood friends on the west coast: Bernice (Bell) Barr and Virginia Young. Barbara’s generosity and kindness shown to her many friends and charitable causes was unparalleled. She touched and enriched so many lives!
Her family was the most important part of her life and she loved family gatherings. In a letter she left to her family upon her passing she said: “Lastly I want all of you to know how much you have enriched my life: my four children, their spouses and the grandchildren. I am so very proud of you all and love you always”.
Barbara leaves behind her four children: Bart (Cynthia) Davies, Sharon (Paul) Fogtmann, Edward (Carol) Davies, and John Davies (Penny Davis). She also leaves behind her ten grandchildren: Dylan Davies (Jan Fitzpatrick), Suzanne Davies (Joe Ross), Kristy (Jacob) Togo. Taryn (Dave) Wilson, Alison Fogtmann (Donald Elliot), Russell and Colleen Davies (mother Karen Davies), and Taylor, Cameron and Jack Davies. She is also survived by three great grandchildren: Jaylyn, Ellarie and Bentley.
Barbara leaves behind her two deeply loved sisters in Vancouver, B.C., Runa Oughtred and Daphne (Stan) Avis who she was in contact with on a weekly basis. She also leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces.
Besides being predeceased by her husband George, Barbara was also predeceased by her grandson Zachary Davies.
After Barbara lost George in 2003 she adopted a wonderful cat named Rylie. She became a cherished companion for Barbara and she affectionately referred to Rylie as her “queen bee”.
Barbara’s children would like to thank the ICU at Chinook Regional Hospital. Your wonderful care of Barbara was extraordinary. Thank you also to Dr. Morley Wong for his heartfelt support, guidance and concern during this difficult time.
As per Barbara’s wishes there will be no funeral service. There will be a celebration of her life in the near future.

BEN HOFER
1965 ~ 2014
Benjamin (Ben) Hofer Beloved Son, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, and Friend, of the East Raymond Colony passed away May 18th, 2014 at the age of 48 years at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary due to unforeseen circumstances, after successfully removing a benign brain tumour.
Ben was born July 7th, 1965 at Stirling, Alberta to Michael and Rebecca Hofer, the sixth of ten children.
At the age of eighteen he left the colony for eight years working for Ray Taylor’s, custom harvest crew, then came back to the colony for a few months and left again. He bought his first truck and became a long haul trucker for Caneda Transport trucking from Coast to Coast, hitting every province, and territory, and all fifty states along his many routes; Hawaii was of course for vacation. In 1994 he traded in his truck for his shiny blue Peterbilt, “Dream Chaser”; his Pride and Joy. Today you would think it was brand new, as he was always keeping it in top-notch shape. He finally returned Home in February of 1997 to the East Raymond Colony where he resided until his passing.
There was never a chore or a full day’s work that was too much for him to handle. Always putting in 110%, never leaving a job unfinished. In the past decade he also had the pleasure of operating the sprayer, putting in many hours and covering thousands of acres. But the Love of his life was his truck, logging many hours and never refused an opportunity when he had one. The open road was his life.
Family and friends were always an important part in his life. Once a year he made a complete circle visiting his sisters, usually starting with sis Annie, then sis Frieda, he then headed south to sis Ruth’s and out to Washington to visit family and friends. The last stretch of his journey was up the coast to B.C. and relaxing in one of many hot springs along the way. Ben was the kind of guy that knew when you had a chance to relax, he would take full advantage and not one minute was taken for granted. He loved spending time and playing with children. There was never a dull moment when you were around Ben. His smile and laugh will never leave our memories.
Ben leaves behind his mother Rebecca Hofer of Raymond, six brothers Herb (Ruth) Hofer, Darius (Matilda) Hofer, George (Susie) Hofer, Sam (Sharon) Hofer, Andy (Barbra) Hofer, and Joe (Miriam) Hofer all of Raymond and three sisters, (John) Annie Hofer of Red Deer, (Richard) Ruth Stahl of Grass Range, Montana, and (Herman) Frieda Decker of Kenaston, Saskatchewan and nineteen nephews and eighteen nieces, many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends too numerous to mention.
He is preceded in death by his father, Michael Hofer, Paternal Grandparents, George and Annie Hofer and Maternal Grandparents, Darius and Rebecca Hofer; two nieces, Samantha Hofer and Sonya Hofer, one nephew, Joseph Hofer; Uncles George, Joshua, David, Darius, Paul, and Benny; Aunts Annie and Elizabeth. Also a very dear cousin, Lillian Stahl.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the EAST RAYMOND COLONY, Raymond, AB.

WOODRUFF
LLOYD D WOODRUFF, 94, passed away peacefully May 14, 2014 in the Vulcan Hospital (Long Term Care).
He was born in Cardston, AB on January 27, 1920 to David Patten Woodruff Jr. and Alice Jane Hinman. He was married to Rachel Reva Rasmussen on March 28, 1945 in the Cardston Alberta Temple. They spent 56 wonderful years together. After her passing in 2001, he married Hazel Melba Crooks Jan. 11, 2003 who was a faithful companion until her death in 2008. He was preceded in death by Rachel (wife), Hazel (wife), Owen (son) Duane (son-in-law), his parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Lloyd is the loving Dad of 10 children – David (Rachel) Woodruff, Alice Clemans, Bruce (Linda) Woodruff, Allen (Carolyn) Woodruff, Owen (Ramona) Woodruff, Loyia (Duane) Malmberg, Keith (Yvonne) Woodruff, Jane (Merlin) Jensen, Dennis (Hollie) Woodruff, and Reva (Justin) Lybbert – Grandpa to 48 grandchildren and 98 great grandchildren – 1 step daughter Sonja (Bryan) Neu and 1 step son Steve Hollo – 8 step grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren.
Lloyd left this world as quietly as he came. Although he was not always one to stand out, he was always one to stand up for what he knew was right. The way he lived his life was evidence of what he believed.
Family was top priority to him and everyone who came to his home was treated as family. He enjoyed a good joke and was always ready to share some cute quip. Farming claimed much of his time but he served willing in the church and community. Serving as a Bishop in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and in many other callings provided opportunities to care for others. He spent many years as a Scout Master, enjoying camping and working with the boys. In his later years, he and his wife Rachel served a mission in Punnichy, SK and really enjoyed serving the people there. Hours spent working in the temple gave him joy, peace and purpose to his life. His children and grandchildren remember his kindness, his dedication to living right, his love for his Savior and the desire to serve Him. Gratitude graced his life and the lives of others. The most used words in his vocabulary were Thank You.
