BARBARA EDNA DAVIES
Barbara Edna Davies (nee Black), beloved wife of the late George B. Davies Jr. passed away peacefully on her 85th Birthday on Tuesday, May 20th, 2014. She was surrounded by her four children: Bart Davies, Sharon Fogtmann, Edward Davies and John Davies.
Barbara was born and raised in Vancouver and spent her childhood summers at Hopkins Landing at the family cottage. She met her late husband George when she attended UBC and was married in Vancouver on October 1, 1952. George and Barbara settled in Lethbridge where her husband George was born and raised. She and George also spent many memorable summers with their four children at Hopkins Landing near Gibsons, B.C.
Barbara enjoyed the YMCA where she was a long time board member and swam on a regular basis. One of her greatest loves was swimming in the ocean both at Hopkins Landing and on Maui every winter. She spent numerous vacations on Maui with her childhood friend Virginia Young from Hopkins Landing, B.C. and then the past three years with her friend Susan Campbell from Cranbrook, B.C..
Barbara enjoyed her home in Lethbridge with a view of the coulees and she loved her summers in Fernie, B.C. at her condo on the golf course. There the majestic views of the mountains reminded her of her childhood growing up in Vancouver, B.C..
In recent years, Barbara looked forward to playing bridge with her friends and made a point of keeping in touch with numerous friends. She kept in close touch with her longtime friend Joyce Arnold over a span of 55 years. She also maintained a lifelong friendship with her two childhood friends on the west coast: Bernice (Bell) Barr and Virginia Young. Barbara’s generosity and kindness shown to her many friends and charitable causes was unparalleled. She touched and enriched so many lives!
Her family was the most important part of her life and she loved family gatherings. In a letter she left to her family upon her passing she said: “Lastly I want all of you to know how much you have enriched my life: my four children, their spouses and the grandchildren. I am so very proud of you all and love you always”.
Barbara leaves behind her four children: Bart (Cynthia) Davies, Sharon (Paul) Fogtmann, Edward (Carol) Davies, and John Davies (Penny Davis). She also leaves behind her ten grandchildren: Dylan Davies (Jan Fitzpatrick), Suzanne Davies (Joe Ross), Kristy (Jacob) Togo. Taryn (Dave) Wilson, Alison Fogtmann (Donald Elliot), Russell and Colleen Davies (mother Karen Davies), and Taylor, Cameron and Jack Davies. She is also survived by three great grandchildren: Jaylyn, Ellarie and Bentley.
Barbara leaves behind her two deeply loved sisters in Vancouver, B.C., Runa Oughtred and Daphne (Stan) Avis who she was in contact with on a weekly basis. She also leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces.
Besides being predeceased by her husband George, Barbara was also predeceased by her grandson Zachary Davies.  After Barbara lost George in 2003 she adopted a wonderful cat named Rylie. She became a cherished companion for Barbara and she affectionately referred to Rylie as her “queen bee” Barbara’s children would like to thank the ICU at Chinook Regional Hospital. Your wonderful care of Barbara was extraordinary. Thank you also to Dr. Morley Wong for his heartfelt support, guidance and concern during this difficult time.
As per Barbara’s wishes there will be no funeral service.

He is survived by his loving sister Betty Kendall, his sister-in-law, Ida, and their children. Also mourning his death are Shirley, Tim and Shane.
Gene spent his early years in Whiskey Gap and attended school there and at Jefferson. With his quiet manner he was a friend to many. His buffalo provided an opportunity to meet many new friends and acquaintances. Gene was always grateful to his generous relatives, neighbors and friends who graciously supported, with non judgmental encouragement, his endeavors. He often mentioned those who helped during tough times with ranching activities and encouragement.
We would like to thank many people for their loving care of Gene – Dr Low and the Cardston Clinic, Home Care and Grey Stoke Caregivers, the staff at Cardston Hospital, the TD Bank staff and also Legacy Funeral Home. A Memorial Service and celebration of Gene’s life will be held at the Cardston & District Seniors’ Centre, 260 – 1st Street West, Cardston, AB on May 27th, 2014 at 2:00 p.m.
