1922 ~ 2014
Mrs. Agnes Dahl of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Lawrence Dahl, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side, at the Chinook Regional Hospital on, Monday, June 23, 2014 at the age of 91 years. Agnes is survived by her daughter Dixie (Wyatt) Pickering; son Del (Kelly) Dahl; grandchildren Erik Dahl (Lucy), Mac Dahl (Amanda), Kelsey Dahl (Russ), Andrew (Teri) Pickering, Jason Pickering; great-grandchildren Aaliyah Pickering, Jeramy Pickering, Charlotte Dahl; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Beside her loving husband Lawrence, Agnes was predeceased by her parents Angus & Marjorie Fraser and brother Clarence. A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dave on Thursday evening in Canmore, AB. Dave is survived by his wife Renée and his children Geoffrey and Kirsten. He is also survived by his parents Milford and Annette, brothers Lindsay, (sons Braden and Stefan), and Alan (Fred). Dave was born in Outlook, Saskatchewan and later moved with his family to Lethbridge for high school and university. He worked in Taber for many years before moving to Canmore, with his wife and young family in 2002, to become editor of the Canmore Leader newspaper. He also worked at the Stoney Nakoda Casino and the Husky at Deadmans Flats. He thoroughly enjoyed his recent work at the Bow Valley Crag & Canyon newspaper as a freelance reporter because he loved meeting and talking with people. A memorial service celebrating Dave¹s life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2014 at St. Michael¹s Anglican Church Hall, 709 – 7 Street, Canmore. It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Harmony Rease Chief Calf at the age of 7 months on June 22, 2014. Beloved daughter of Emerald Chief Calf and Robbie White Man Left; great-grandma Theresa Scout. Harmony in her short life touched many people, she had a smile for everyone and never thought strange of anyone. She will be missed by all. She is an Angel now with our Creator. Margaret Stickel passed away at Chinook Regional Hospital on June 24, 2014 at the age of 93. Margaret was born in Podolsk, Russia on May 15, 1921, the second of 13 children. The family immigrated to Canada in 1924, settling first in Saskatchewan and then in the Readymade area of Alberta. Margaret is survived by a daughter Audrey (John) Blaylock, a son Ron; three brothers Rudy (Marlene), Weldon (Virginia), Arnold (Charm); three sisters Helen Wiebe, Tina (George) Van Rijn, and Loretta Kaminski. She was predeceased by her father John, mother Maria, four brothers Peter, John, George, Herman, and two sisters, Mary Friesen and Hilda Wiens. Mr. Melvin Andres of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Sylvia Andres, unexpectedly passed away at sunrise on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at the age of 81 years. He was born on November 3, 1932 in Coaldale, AB to the late Jacob and Helene Andres, where he was raised on a farm west of Coaldale. Mel is lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Sylvia. He also leaves behind his son Craig (Cheryl); daughters Melanie (Edward) Vegter, Leslee (Mike) Canadine; and grandchildren Brett, Cameron and Madison Andres, Kaitee, Scott and Eric Vegter, Jane and Quinn Canadine; brother Jake (Verdell); sisters, Johanna Dyck and Anne (Kerm) Daum; sisters-in-law Frances Pollock, Anne Harder and brother-in-law Richard (Marilyn) Neufeld. Melvin was predeceased by his brother, Eric Harder and brothers-in-law David Dyck and Sid Pollock.
For Mel, life centered around his family, friends and business. He was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren; their accomplishments, and adventures. He enjoyed a long and rewarding career in business, beginning with Andres Transport in 1957, with his brother, Jake. They sold in 1978 to start Andres Trailer Sales and Rentals. He then retired in 1993, at which time he enjoyed spending time in the Palm Springs area. We will always treasure Mel’s love for adventure , for a job well done and especially for life. Our lovely mother passed away 22nd June at White Hills, Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia, aged 89. Predeceased by her husband, John, in 2009, and her sister, Vera Smith, she is survived by her daughter, Lynne (Fred) Schwarz of Indian Harbour, Nova Scotia and her sons Martin (Cristiana) Poole of Montefiascone, Italy and Philip (Caroline) Poole of Canterbury, United Kingdom. She will be missed by her grand- children: Katherine, Oliver, William, Francesca, Jack, Sam, Jenna, Leo and Emma and by her great- grandson, Ben. Ruth (John¹s cousin) and Gerald Kereliuk of Lethbridge, Alberta were most supportive and kind to both Doris and John during their later years. Born in Chesterton, UK, Doris and John moved to Canada in 1968. They were long-time residents of Lethbridge, and they also lived in Montreal and Vancouver. Doris was a property manager for various companies and worked for Intrawest in Vancouver prior to her retirement. She dearly loved to dance and laugh and continued to do so from her teenage years in wartime England well into her eighties. During WWII she made uniforms for soldiers and she was always known for her beautiful tailoring. Doris was a most kind and loving mother and a vivacious person who drew people to her. Since her husband¹s death and the decline in her health she was a resident of Halifax, although her many friends in Lethbridge and Vancouver did not forget her. Her family would like to thank Dawn Erickson and Pat McKenzie, Dr. Krista Thompson and Dr. Danny Carver for all their help and support and also the wonderful staff of the Berkeley Halifax where she lived for four years. We also thank the nursing staff at Arborstone and White Hills for care during her last months. No funeral by request, a memorial service will take place in the UK at a later date.
Selma Ethel Tustian

Selma Tustian died on June 20, 2014 surrounded by the love of her family and secure in her faith, in her 102nd year.
Selma was born on a homestead outside Vulcan, Alberta on March 2, 1913. She was the second of four daughters born to John Raymond Wood and Christina Lundgren Wood. Christina died in the flu epidemic of 1919 but Selma and her sisters were fortunate enough to be loved and supported by their father and step-mother, Florence Darneille Wood. The girls were encouraged to seek education beyond high school, and all did. Selma became a teacher and in 1931 at eighteen years of age, was in charge of a rural school at Dowling Lake near Hanna. In 1935, the Wood family moved to Cowley, Alberta where Selma met Arthur Tustian. By that fall, she was teaching at Yetwood School east of Champion and in her letters home jokingly wished for a broken arm so she could come back to Arthur in Cowley. She soon did and they were married in December, 1935. The Tustian home was filled with music and books, where all were made welcome and lively arguments were valued. Selma was very active in her church, and contributed her musical and teaching abilities all her life. She taught Grade 1 at Cowley and Livingstone Schools, and many students benefitted from her skilled and warm instruction. Her¹s was described by one Superintendent as “being a model of what a Grade 1 classroom should be.” Following her retirement, she and Arthur enjoyed travelling and family events before his death. Subsequently she moved to Pincher Creek, and spent happy years in her own home, at Crestview Lodge and more recently, Vista Village. Selma was predeceased by her husband Arthur in 1983, sisters Ila in 1968 and Dorothy in 2010, and her son-in-law Max Pharis in 1979. She is survived by her sister, Marie Smyth; three daughters, Barbara Pharis, Patricia McLaren (Bob), and Joyce Tustian (Doug Boyd); as well as 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was greatly loved by her many nieces and nephews. A “Celebration of Life” will be held on Monday, June 30th, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 637 Charlotte Street, Pincher Creek, AB.
