ERLANDSON, MILDRED JEAN
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Mildred Jean Erlandson on Wednesday, September 24th, 2014 at the age of 94 years. She was the loving wife and best friend of Ken Erlandson for 64 years. She was born September 15th, 1920 in Toronto, Ontario, and moved to Briercrest, Saskatchewan at a very young age. She was raised on the family farm there, and moved to Regina to attend Business College and then worked for Bird Construction as a bookkeeper. She met Ken in Regina and they were married May 23rd, 1949. They lived in Regina and started their family of 3 children. The family moved to Pincher Creek in Nov 1960 where Ken & Millie owned and operated the Foothills Motel until 1969. Over the years, Millie worked as a bookkeeper for Foothills Auto, Thornton¹s Furniture, and Higa¹s Pharmacy until her retirement in 1985. She then enjoyed many years of camping, golfing, and traveling with Ken.
Millie was predeceased by her husband, Ken, in July 2013, her brother George, her parents Annabelle & Adam Calder. She will be greatly missed by her sons, Gordon (Marlyn) and Bob (Virginia), and her daughter Eileen (Joe); her grandchildren Kelcey, Glenna, Jill (Wilson), David, Adam & Karli, and special niece, Joan, as well as many nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law in the Erlandson family. Please join us to celebrate Millie¹s life with a Graveside Service on Saturday, October 4th at 11:30 a.m. at the FAIRVIEW CEMETERY – Pincher Creek, followed by a lunch reception at Vista Village Community Room. HIRONAKA
Alberta has lost a native son. Robert Hironaka died peacefully on September 22, 2014.
“You get out of life what you put into it. If you don¹t put into it you don¹t get much out of it” Robert Hironaka – Alberta Order of Excellence 2012. If you were to ask the many that Robert came in contact with throughout his life, they would say that he lived life to the fullest – a lifetime dedicated to excellence and service. Robert was born on January 18, 1928 in Raymond, Alberta to Yoichi “Harry” and Tsuki (Kanehiro) Hironaka. His sister Fusae and brother, Akira (Yasuko, deceased), predeceased Robert. He is survived by his brothers Tucker (Sachi), James (Aya, deceased), Marshall (Sally) and Arthur (Pat) as well as by his two sisters Florence Senda (Yosh, deceased) and Misae Masuda (Aki). A private service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 10:30 AM at the BUDDHIST TEMPLE OF SOUTHERN ALBERTA, 470-40 St South, Lethbridge. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Colleagues, friends and family are cordially invited to reminisce about Robert at his favourite place, the Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens, following the burial service. In honour of Dr. Hironaka, the Gardens will be closed during the funeral ceremony, and will reopen its doors at no charge to all for the remainder of the day. The Hironaka family warmly welcomes you to enjoy the beautiful gardens with them in the afternoon. Rain or shine, bring an umbrella, as Bob would suggest. Madeline Barbara Paterson (nee: Rennie) passed away in Saskatoon on September 24, 2014, at the age of 84 years, beloved wife of Rev. David Paterson of Saskatoon, SK. formerly of Medicine Hat. She also leaves to cherish her memory three children, Janice (Richard) Rodda of Saskatoon, Neil (Lori) Paterson of Sydney, Nova Scotia and Sharon (Dale) Vare of Cardston, Alberta; son-in-law Sheldon Moncks; her grandchildren, Jennifer, Mark, Jordan, Logan, Erin and Chris; three brothers, Gerald (Joyce) of Acton, ON, Robert (June) of Galt, Cambridge, ON and Frederick (Johneen) of Cornwall, ON; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Young and Joan Paterson of Edmonton as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Lillian and James Rennie, one brother Donald Rennie and one sister Dorothy Rennie. Rose-Ella Ann Whiteford born in Brooks, Alberta, beloved mother of Carey Wiebe, Sheldon Watson, Matthew Whiteford, Andrew Whiteford and Alisha Whiteford, as well as her two grandchildren Mekhail Whiteford and Shayla Whiteford and close friend Brian Davis, passed away suddenly and peacefully in her home on Monday September 22, 2014 at the age of 59 years old. She was survived by her family mentioned above as well as her three brothers Willie Dyck, Alvin Dyck and John Dyck as well as her two sisters Betty Fehr and Nell Spurgeon. John was born in Maasdyke, Holland, the oldest of seven children. He grew up in Holland and immigrated to Canada in 1948 with his family, eventually settling in the Taber area. After John and Archie were married, they lived the majority of their years in the Taber/Vauxhall area before moving to Carmangay and most recently Claresholm.
