BURRIS
ERNEST EDWARD BURRIS, beloved husband of the late Helen Marie Burris of Lethbridge, passed away at the Edith Cavell Care Centre on Sunday, September 28th, 2014 at the age of 88 years. Ernie is lovingly remembered by his children Karen Carleton, Richard (Vi) Burris, Alvin (Shirley) Burris, Jim (Carol) Burris all of Lethbridge, AB., Glen (Tess) Burris of Sturgeon County, AB. and Alanna (Don) Parsons of Stettler, AB., 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. His memory is also cherished by his brother Roy (Nora) Burris and his brother-in-law Robert (Maureen) Anderson. Along with his loving wife Helen in 1987, Ernie was predeceased by his parents Ralph and Mabel Burris and his siblings Marvin, Ruth, Nina and Bill. Ernie was born on December 12, 1925 in Wetaskiwin, AB. He met Helen (nee Anderson) while working as a guard at the POW Camp and they were married on August 30, 1946 in Lethbridge. While raising their 6 children, Ernie worked for the CPR as a conductor for 38 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family camping, waterskiing, boating and listening to country music. Ernie traveled with his motorhome through every Province in Canada, every state in the U.S. and also visited Hawaii. He was a real jokester, making us laugh until it was time to play a game then he was Mr. Competitive and “game face on”. He loved the saying “If I knew now much fun it was to have grandchildren I would have had them first.” Ernie will be dearly missed. A Celebration of Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB., on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Terry Shillington officiating. VENLA CRAPO, passed away in Cardston, Alberta, at Lee Crest Nursing Home on Monday, September 29th, 2014 at the age of 95 years, beloved wife of the late Austin Earl Crapo. She is survived by her four children, Doug (Judy) of Calgary, LaRee (Gus) Bruehler of Oliver, B.C., Louise (Wayne) Elliott of North Salt Lake, Utah, Naida (Neil) Morton of Strathmore. Louisa Crowshoe passed away suddenly at the age of 67, at Pincher Creek hospital Pincher Creek, Alberta on September 29, 2014. She was born to Josephine (nee Warrior) and Joe Crowshoe on September 17, 1947, Brocket, Alberta. She is survived by her loving husband Leo Bernard Pard; kids Norm ŒTinyman¹ , Kyra (Barry), Shannon (John) Williams; step kids Rowdy (Keeley) Pard, Everett Mistaken Chief, Barnard Lee Chief Body, Nicholas Chief Body, James Pard, Ralna Pard; grandchildren Nakia, Steven, Sebastian, Cory, Cora, Krystan, Simeon, Connor, Nevada; great grandchildren Isaiah Kyle, Marjorie; brother¹s Gerald (Elvia), Reg (Rosemary); sister¹s Evelyn (Bruce) Kelman, Margaret(Hector) Jackson, Betty Ann (Morris) Little Wolf, Valerie (Ivan) McMaster, Jocelyn (Allen Wells) English, Vera; Numerous nieces, nephews; adopted children, grandchildren, cousins, and relatives. GEPNERIS
ALEX GEPNERIS of Lethbridge, passed away suddenly on Monday, September 29, 2014 at the age of 55 years. He is the loving son of Helen Gepneris, brother to Allan (Judy) Gepneris, uncle to Stacy Gepneris (Eric Outrame) and Christopher Gepneris. He is predeceased by his father Alex Gepneris. Alex was born and educated in Lethbridge, attending the U of L as an accountant. He has been working as the senior vice president and controller of Tollestrup Inc. (Group) for the past 30 years. Alex loved Harley Davidson motorcycles and black Cadillac SUV’s. A Private Family Service will be Celebrated at Cornerstone Funeral Home at a later date.

Gertrude “Audrey” Barker
1925 – 2014
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gertrude “Audrey” Barker, on September 1, 2014, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Audrey was predeceased by her first husband, Henry Hardy; second husband, George Barker; sisters, Lillian, Ethel, Edythe; and brothers, Walter, and Dick. Audrey will be forever missed by her daughters, Judy McQuillan (Bob) of Courtenay, BC, Mary Kerr (Bill) of Parksville, BC, Sherry Ann Chiasson (Gerard) of Calgary, Alberta; grandchildren, Tracy, Kevin, Kerry, Terry, and Christopher; and great grandchildren, Ryan, Kristian, Steven, Kaitlin, Taylor, Sydney, Bili Be; brothers, Harold Price of Brantford, Ontario, Tom Price (Peggy) of Port Alberni, BC, Jack Price of Edmonton, Alberta and Bob Price (Ina) of Port Alberni, BC. Audrey was born in Hillcrest, Alberta on August 17, 1925 to Tom and Gertrude Price where Tom was a coal miner in the Bellevue Mines. Audrey was the second youngest of 4 daughters and 6 sons. She met and married Henry Hardy at the young age of 18 on September 25, 1943. Sadly, Henry passed away in Lethbridge, Alberta December 27, 1985 at the age of 66. Two years later Audrey moved from Lethbridge to Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island, a quaint little community that she had loved for many years. She immediately became immersed into the community joining and volunteering at St Stephens United Church and joining the Ladies Auxiliary of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 76. In 1992, Audrey met George Barker and they married on June 21, 1993. George passed away on January 14, 2005 at the age of 84. Audrey was devoted to St Stephens United Church and to the Ladies Auxiliary at the Legion, where she served on the Executive in a number of capacities and was a life member. For the last seven years, Audrey lived at Qualicum Manor where she made more friends and certainly captivated the hearts of many of the staff. She will be missed by family and friends.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Qualicum Manor who treated Mom with loving care; a special hug also goes out to her dear Manor friend and walking companion, Joy Shimek. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at St. Stephens United Church, 150 Village Way in Qualicum Beach with Reverend Phil Spencer officiating. HEALY
October 1, 1955 – September 25, 2014
It is with great sadness and sorrow that we bid farewell to our beloved mother, wife, grandmother, aunty and sister JOANNE MARIE HEALY. She was born October 1, 1955 to Mr. and Mrs. Orton and Pauline Eagle Speaker. She was called to join our Heavenly Father by serving him at his side as one of his prayer warriors. Joanne was born into a very traditional family who practiced and respected their ancestral ways. Joanne was so passionate about woman¹s traditional that she decided to compete both here in Canada and in the United States and won many competitions. The Eagle Speaker name was known and respected throughout the pow-wow circuit. Joanne was born with many talents and gifts which allowed her to try everything from administrative duties, to working with the Salvation Army in Vancouver, then being everyone¹s hockey mom, as well as being a cook for the Cranbrook firefighters. It was around this time that she devoted the rest of her years to raising her two beautiful daughters in the ways of the Lord. It was here where Joanne her covenant and commitment to our Lord Jesus and with the Church. She became a great instrument for the Church and developed a kindred spirit with her sister in Christ, Pastor Ruby Grant; together they made the Church a safe haven for anyone who would knock.
Joanne is survived by her loving husband, Dexter; her children Sheldon (Lana), Dexter Jr. ³Buddy², Sloan (Lyle), Haley; her beloved dog ³Sammy²; mother Pauline; brothers Morton (Joan), Seymour (Wanda); sisters Ruth (Dennis), Abby (Richard); grandchildren – Nodah and Tayis; many great-grandchildren. Joanne will be sadly missed but never forgotten. Special thanks to all who prayed for her. Thank you Dr. Shakur and the nurses who helped ease her pain. We, the Healy family, are truly grateful. A Wake Service will be held at the Old Agency Community Hall, Blood Reserve on Thursday, October 2nd from 7:00 p.m. continuing all night. JOHN GILLAM
1950 ~ 2014
John Gillam of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Pat and dear father of Sean and Brad, passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 28, 2014 surrounded by his family at the Chinook Regional Hospital. John was 64 years old. John Edward Gillam was born May 9, 1950 in Sherbrooke Quebec to Leonard and Vera Gillam. John grew up in the Eastern Townships where he finished school and later went on to work for the Canadian Pacific Railway. He transferred to Alberta in 1970. That’s where he met Pat Hughes, the love of his life. They were married in September, 1973 and over the next 41 years; they built a wonderful life together filled with love, family and fun. Their two sons, Sean 1976 and Brad 1978 were born and new adventures were shared over the years including BMX, camping, hockey, football and John’s involvement supporting various teams, projects and managing positions always showing his devotion for his sons.
John was a member of the Lethbridge Country Club where he enjoyed golf and social time with “the guys”. Grandchildren Shane, Blake, Maddie and Lizzie added to John’s joy and he loved his time with the little ones. Smiles and laughter filled the Gillam home. John had a great love of family and attended many get togethers, birthdays and reunions. In recent years, John and Pat spent their winters in Texas enjoying warmer weather and extending the golf season and spending time with many friends. John is survived by his wife, Pat and sons, Sean and Brad; grandchildren, two sisters, Marilyn and Cindy and brother, David. He will fondly be remembered by nieces and nephews and friends. The family would like to express our gratitude and thanks for all the support shown from his friends and the community in our time of mourning. OBORN
ADA OBORN of Milk River, AB., passed away peacefully at The Good Samaritan Society, Linden View in Taber, AB., on September 30th, 2014 at the age of 93 years. Ada is lovingly remembered by her daughter-in-law Sylvia, grandchildren Tim (Rhonda) Oborn and Heidi (Seth) Solez, great- grandchildren Connor and Sierra Oborn, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband George, her beloved son Bill, her one sister Gladys “Tiny” Polinkus, and her four brothers Gordon, Peter, Douglas and William “Wid” Jodrey. Ada was born February 13th, 1921 in Knappen, AB., to Clarence and Martha Jodrey. In 1939, Ada married George William Oborn of Milk River and together they raised their only son, George (Bill) Oborn. Over the years, Ada was active in the community and enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, cooking, bowling and bingo. Mostly, she loved spending time with her friends and family. A Funeral Service will be held at ST. PAUL¹S UNITED CHURCH, 201-2nd Avenue N.E., Milk River, AB., on Saturday, October 4th at 11:00 A.M. A Burial will follow at the Milk River Cemetery.
