FRED CAMPBELL
1938 ~ 2014
Fred Campbell was born on the 27th of October 1938 the eighth child of James Robert Campbell and Alice Mary Eldridge, at a farm near Blucher, Saskatchewan. A defining moment came for Fred in grade seven, when a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police visited his school, which developed a desire for him to want to become a member of the Police Force. Fred¹s family moved to Strasbourg where he graduated High School from in 1958, and where he met the love of his life and future wife, Lily. Upon graduation, he immediately applied with the local RCMP detachment. He graduated RCMP Depot Training in 1960, and married Lily on October 13, 1961. Lily always said she did not wish to marry a policeman, but she stayed dedicated by his side for his entire thirty six year RCMP career. During this time, he worked in Calgary (1960-65), Strathmore (66), Drumheller (1966-71), Peace River (1971-73), Grimshaw (1973-76), High River (1976-79), Vegreville (1979-82), and finally as Staff Sergeant in Lethbridge (1982-95). Along the way, Fred and Lily added four children to their family Rob, Decca, Cliff and Alida. Fred could have not been a more dedicated father, it was his true calling in life. He coached and participated in sports and activities with all of his children, and played old timer hockey himself up until a number of years ago. Fred was a devoted grandparent and role model to nine grandchildren. His grandchildren loved being around him, and adored how much he loved to have fun and laugh. Even though Fred led a busy life, he was selfless and kind and always made time to help a friend in need or volunteer with organizations such as the Hockey Hounds. He was a member of the RCMP vets, and during his free time liked nothing more than spend time with his friends either golfing or going for coffee. Fred is survived by his loving wife Lily, son Rob (Chelsie), grandchildren Cordell, Chaise, Carson and Holly. His daughter Decca (Matthew), and grandchildren Cherilyn, Derek, and Dayna. Son Cliff (Darci), and grandchildren Cruz and Dior. Daughter Alida (Randy), and her daughter Taylor, as well as many extended family and friends. There aren¹t enough words to describe the kind of man you were, a true depiction of unconditional love and devotion as a husband, father, and grandfather. We will miss your love, support, smile, sense of humor and friendship. Thank you for a lifetime of memories, your guidance and love will carry us through. LLOYD H. JACKSON, beloved wife of the late Sylvia Jackson of Lethbridge, passed away in Coaldale on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at the age of 93 years. He is the loving father of Shirley Slobodian of Coaldale and Craig (Mona) Jackson of Monarch, four grandchildren, Tracee and Patrick Slobodian and Megan and Mathew Jackson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Lloyd was born Sept. 14, 1921. He served in WWII in the Armed Forces. Lloyd was a hard worker and was in construction and trucking. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed. Mr. Walter Harold Arthur Stewart of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Elizabeth Stewart, passed away at the Edith Cavell Care Centre on Friday, October 24, 2014 at the age of 83 years. Walter was born on October 29, 1930 at the family farm just north of Holland, Manitoba. He was the first of Myrtle (Harrison) and Harold Stewart¹s four children. He attended school in Holland, Manitoba until WWII significantly affected his life. Due to a shortage of hired men, he followed his father, uncle and cousin driving commercial trucks after school and on weekends; well before he was of legal driving age. The shortage of workers caused by the overseas conflict encouraged Walter to discontinue his formal education in 1942, prior to finishing grade 6. By the age of 13, he was driving trucks full time until 1948, when he moved with his family to Lethbridge. Walter obtained his journeyman carpentry ticket when the trades were first certified in the 1950¹s. In the early 50¹s Walter was introduced to the Elks Club. Where he served in various chairs, including the Exalted Ruler, this led to him serving on both the Provincial and National Councils for the Elks. One of his proudest contributions to his community, was when he served for two consecutive terms on the Lethbridge Police Commission, especially as chairman. Walter was a founding member of the Alberta Home Builders Association, as well as the original Alberta New Home Warranty Program. His company Nu-Mode Homes was the first Alberta firm to join this new certification program. Walter was the first recipient of Alberta¹s Distinguished Home Builders Award. Walter was a visionary, trend setter, full of zest and enthusiasm AND HE ALWAYS DID IT HIS WAY WITH THE GREATEST OF HONESTY AND INTEGRITY. In 1957, Walter Stewart Contracting Lethbridge Ltd. was started which morphed into Nu-Mode Homes, with his wife Beth, in 1964 and subsequently Walter Stewart Realty Ltd. He was one of the first to use prefabricated roof trusses, and walls, pre-finished kitchen cabinets as well as metal siding in Lethbridge and surrounding areas. He was instrumental in getting approved mortgages for semi detached housing in Alberta. His “Zero Lot Line” concept was one of the most successful building innovations in the City of Lethbridge. In 1975, Walter was treasurer for Alberta Council of HUDAC and over the next three years he served in various offices to become chairman in 1978. In 1990 Walter built “Children¹s House”, a daycare, for the Children¹s House Child Care Society and with help from various other like-minded individuals constructed child orientated features in this building, and for a number of years following he continued to drop in and visit the facility. He built numerous stand-alone homes and subdivisions in the City of Lethbridge and surrounding areas, these included St. Edwards Village, St. James Place, and most recent West Highlands. One of Walter¹s most visible contributions and greatest legacies to the citizens of Lethbridge, in his mind, is the West Highlands Park located on the west side of Lethbridge. Walter was pre-deceased by his parents Harold and Myrtle Stewart, his second wife Elizabeth (Beth) Stewart, daughter Cynthia, grand-daughter Lori Baksa, great-grandson Brendan Berg, sister and brother-in-law Helen & Peter Doubinin. He is survived by brother Carly (Barbara) Stewart, sister Doreen (Ken) Heaton, son Clint (Jill) Stewart, daughters Cory (Randy) Baksa, Cris (Ferron) Kenmore, God-daughter Tamara (Trent) Weninger, granddaughters Terra (Norm) Berg, Shannon (Cam) Drake, Toni (Warren) Henke, Miranda (Johnathon) Penner, grandson Tyrel (Emerald) Kenmore, 11 great- grandchildren with one on the way, and one great-great grandchild, nieces and nephews, a stepdaughter Bernice (Bunny) Popoff and step – son Jim (Liz) Pratt. Timothy John Lewis, beloved husband of Deb Lewis, passed away peacefully in Taber on Monday, October 27, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 61 years old. He is also survived by his siblings Laura (Bill) Tempany and Tom (Elizabeth) Lewis as well as a large extended family.
He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Margaret Lewis, as well as Deb¹s parents Josepha and Arthur Kunz. Tim was raised on a farm in Cranford. Farming was Tim¹s passion, along with his trucking business. He hauled water, livestock and grain, and owned numerous businesses. Tim, being a handyman, touched many people¹s lives through his generosity. He was charismatic, fun-loving and forever a prankster. Tim and Deb were married on September 1, 1973. They enjoyed many warm holidays together. Tim¹s favourite pastime was spending time with his three grandchildren, whether it was driving lessons, sleepovers or going to the horse races. The Lewis door was always open to friends and family alike. As Tim would say, ³keep your stick on the ice². Over and out.
