Gerry Albert
1917 – 2015
Germaine Celina Albert (nee Ferdais) of Fort Macleod, formerly of Taber, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at the age of 97 years. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 – 48 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. Burial to follow at the Union Cemetery, Fort Macleod at 12:30 P.M. Condolences may be forwarded by visiting our website at http://www.southlandfuneral.com. Gerry is survived by her brothers Wilfrid (Susan) Ferdais of High River, Joseph Ferdais of Elnora as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Although Gerry never had any children of her own, she sponsored numerous foster children in poverty stricken countries for over fifty years. She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Emma Ferdais; five sisters and brothers-in-law Theresa (Jim) Bell, Marion (Gary) Barten, Agnes (Bob) Rose, Alphonsine “Al” (Hugh) Mackintosh and Rose (Bill Currie/John Alsgard); brothers Eugene and Armand Ferdais. Gerry was born at home on the Joseph and Emma Ferdais farm, south of Fort Macleod in December 1917. She was educated in the Waterton District School and later at the Macleod School. As a young adult she did domestic work on several farms in the Fort Macleod and Granum areas; followed by three enjoyable years serving food to young airforce trainees at the Macleod air training base canteen during WWII. She later lived in Pincher Creek and worked many years in the food services industry. In the mid ‘50’s, Gerry went to Fort Vermilion in northern Alberta where she took out a farm homestead. In the late 1950’s she trained and became a “nursing aide” (LPN). She worked her entire nursing career at the Taber General Hospital, mainly in the maternity ward. After her retirement she spent much of her time travelling to many places she had always wanted to see. Gerry was an active member of the CWL for fifty years. EAGLE SPEAKER

TIMOTHY GLEN & ROXANNE NONA EAGLE SPEAKER (BLOOD), husband and wife, passed away in Stand Off, AB on March 20th, 2015.

Roxanne was born June 10, 1973 in Cardston, AB. She attended Saipoyi, Fort Macleod, Cardston and Kainai High School. She also attended Red Crow Community College. Her great grandfather, Steve Oka, gave her a Blackfoot name “Kowaisiyaakii”. She was a hard worker and worked at various places as a short order cook and odd jobs. Roxy was a homemaker who loved to cook and sew. She always wanted to learn how to do beadwork. She enjoyed listening to her music while cleaning house and would often end up dancing in her living room. She met the love of her life, Timmy Eagle Speaker, in 1992. They have four beautiful children: Travis, Justin, Timmy Jr, and Mia whom they cherish.; adopted daughter Vada Blood; adopted sons: Vance & Keegan Chief Moon. Roxy and Tim opened their home to everyone. Roxy had a big heart for her family and friends, including her children¹s friends. She was excellent at working with the elderly and handicapped children. She and Tim were quite busy cheering on their children at basketball games. Mia, Roxy¹s daughter, loved to sing and talk with her Mom. Mia enjoyed listening to her mom¹s stories about her childhood. Toxy was extremely proud of Mia, who was crowned Saipoyi Indian Princess. Roxy was well loved and will be dearly missed by her home community. Timothy Glenn Eagle Speaker was born on July 22, 1968 in Cardston, AB. Timothy spent his life on the Blood Reserve. He attended Standoff Elementary School; he later attended St. Mary’s Residential School. This is where he had the opportunity to play and excel at numerous sports, but his greatest passion was in basketball. He played with the Kainai Braves. One of his other passions was horses, he loved to help his uncles train race horses. He was a very artistic individual who put a lot of his heart into all of his art pieces. He was a kind hearted person and was a real character who loved to play tricks on all his loved ones. He loved to make everyone around him laugh. Tim met the love his life Roxanne Eagle Speaker (Blood) at a very young age. He was a very loving and devoted father. Through thick and thin, Tim and Roxanne were always at each other¹s side. They were blessed with five very beautiful children. They ware a basketball family. They were their children¹s biggest supporters and absolutely their children¹s number one fans. Kainai high school had bought him a warrior¹s jacket because he was such a great supporter of the team. ROBINSON

JAMES R. ROBINSON, age 66, passed away on March 25th, 2015 in Lethbridge at the Chinook Regional Hospital, with loved ones by his side. James is survived by Beverly Robinson, his loving wife of 48 years. Jim was born on August 1st, 1948 in Goderich, ON, to Alf and Ethel Robinson and was the youngest of 12. On March 25th, 1967 Jim married the love of his life, Bev. Together they had four children, James Jr., Joey, Randy and Tilly (Rick) Sauter. Jim was an awesome and loving grandpa to his precious grandchildren: Amanda, Jimmy-Rae, Melody, Natasha, Devon, and Zak. He is survived by his brothers Bill, Gary, and Jerald as well as his family scattered across Canada. Jim was a simple man who cared most about family and pursuing passions in life. Jim’s passion for antiquing began while studying at Conestoga College. Other passions included the great outdoors, music, and meeting with friends. A Celebration of Jim’s life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME – 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB. on Monday, March 30th, 2015 at 1:00pm. Hubert “Bert” Stubbington

1925 – 2015

Mr. Hubert Stubbington of Lethbridge, beloved companion of Ms. Mariel Selk, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at the age of 90 years. Bert was born on March 22, 1925 in Empress, Alberta. In 1930 he moved to Glaslyn, Saskatchewan in a covered wagon. He attended school at Fernwood for four years and returned to Empress. In 1936, he returned to Glaslyn, Saskatchewan where he worked on many farms and ranches until 1939, when he then moved to East Coulee, Alberta where he worked in the coal mines. In 1942, Bert joined the Army and served in WWII. On D Day, he landed on Juno Beach and on July 25 he was taken as a Prisoner of War. In 1945, he returned to Canada and was discharged. In 1950, he re-enlisted, and in April of 1953 deployed to Korea. From 1954 – 1961 he served as Military Police Officer, and was then discharged. He was the Superintendent of security for the Edmonton Exhibition and Western Canada Racing Association. Bert served as a police officer over the years in various cities and towns, such as Athabasca, Sylvan Lake, and Warner. In 1974 they moved to Lethbridge and he worked as commissionaire and started volunteer work with neighborhood watch until retirement. Bert is survived by his daughter Sharon Fisette; sons Jerry (Carla) Stubbington, David (Karen) Stubbington and Daryl Stubbington; step-children Sharon (Steve) Ivanics, Marianne (Gary) Paskuski, Barry, Dave, Danny, Roger, Tom, Alan (Penny); sister Daphne Courtney; and several grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his three brothers Victor, Wilfred and Brian; his three sisters Margorie, Yvonne and Dorothy; step-daughter Kathy Selk Esslinger.
