1921 – 2015
Mr. Thomas Band of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Vera Band passed away at the St. Michael’s Health Centre on Wednesday April 22, 2015 at the age of 93 years.

  BRINKHURST
Beloved NAOMI KING NIELSEN BRINKHURST passed away on Tuesday, 21 April, 2015, while residing at the Legacy Lodge in Lethbridge, Alberta. Her long life saw her witness the passing of two husbands. Naomi was born 15 December 1920, in North Sydney, Nova Scotia, the second daughter and third child of  Thomas and Elizabeth (Arnold) King. Her Sister, Ruth, and brother, Mansell preceded her in death. She met Ackroyd James (AJ) Nielsen while he was stationed in Nova Scotia during World War II. They were married, 16 October 1940. The marriage was later solemnized in the Cardston Alberta Temple. Naomi and AJ had two children, Elizabeth Nora Warner of South Jordan, Utah, and the late James King Nielsen. AJ passed away on 7 July, 1967. Naomi later married a long time friend, George Brinkhurst, in July 1972. They resided briefly in Calgary, then moved to Cardston where they were active temple workers. Later they moved to Lethbridge, where George died on 31 May, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Beth), 5 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. George¹s two children, Jackie Champion (Edmonton), and Gordon Brinkhurst (Cardston) were important parts of Naomi and George¹s relationship. Special thanks is given to Gordon and his wife, Arlene, for the attentive care they have given Naomi over the past several years. Funeral Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Legacy Ward chapel, 2223 6A Avenue North, Lethbridge on Saturday, April 25 at 10:00am . , beloved wife of Ray Hankel of Lethbridge passed away at the St. Michael’s Health Centre on Monday, April 20, 2015 at the age of 88 years. Annie Lelekach
1919- 2015
Annie Lelekach of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late John Lelekach, passed away peacefully at St. Michael’s Palliative Care Centre on Monday April 20, 2015 at the age of 95 years.
Annie immigrated to Edmonton in 1930 from Ostruva, Poland. She lived there a short time before moving to Seba Beach with her parents. She married Ed Gashnitz in 1936. They had two daughters, Shirley and Gladys. They moved to Southern Alberta in 1937 to work sugar beet fields. They purchased the Shaughnessy Restaurant. Later Annie worked at Yale Café on 5th Street. She met John Lelekach at Tony Knapek’s party and married him in 1951. Jack was born in 1954. They enjoyed farming and good neighbors at Turin before retiring to Lethbridge in 1984.
Annie loved to cook, play cards and occasionally go to the casino. She grew a huge garden and loved her flowers. Annie loved to spend time with her nine grandchildren.
Annie is survived by her 2 daughters Shirley Gruending and Gladys Hamilton; son Jack Lelekach; grandchildren Lonnie (Diane) Staples, Bruce Staples, Valerie Harris, Bonnie (Jon) Leech, Michelle (Robert) Scott, Darcy (Teresa) Granley, Brian (Dawn) Granley, Marisa Lelekach, and Jessica Lelekach; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Besides her loving husband John, Annie was predeceased by her parents Mary and John Ogrodnik; brothers Fred (Edis) Ogrodnik, Steve Ogrodnik; sisters Martha (Mike) Psytoski and Anicia (Michael and John) Sapals; sons-in-law Bob Gnam, Bill Granley, Leon Gruending, Dick Staples and Clay Hamilton; and by John’s twelve siblings.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, April 25, 2015, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4 St S, Lethbridge, with pastor Eva Stanley officiating. Interment to follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.

, beloved mother of Stevie Many Bears, Grandmother of Treigh Black Plume and lifelong friend of Gus Many Bears passed away at the age of 54 years after a long battle with illness on April 19, 2015 at Peter Lougheed Hospital, Calgary, Alberta.Annette was predeceased by her son Gordon Wolf Child Jr., Mother Isabelle, father Johnny, maternal grandparents Amy and Jim, and paternal grandparents Ada and Jim. She was survived by her brother Johnny White Man, sister Sherry Red Crow, brother Lewis Red Crow, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, adopted mother Evangeline Provost and Theresa Mistaken Chief, adopted daughters Heather, Leeanne and Kelly, and Aunt Edna Devine. Annette was a very caring person, well known for her good humour, infectious laugh and could brighten up the day with her jokes. Annette, also known as “Biscuit” (a name she received with love), will be sadly missed by all who knew her. 1942 – 2015

The loving Family and staff of Martin Brothers sadly announce the passing of Robert “Bob” Lien of Lethbridge, formerly of Warner, on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the age of 72 years.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Donna; stepson Ryan (Kristin Reeves) Dunford; son Trevor Lien; daughter Donna (Todd) Shaffer; grandchildren Tanis Shaffer, Ty Shaffer, Robert Lien, Bradley Lien, Alexander Reeves Dunford, Callum Reeves Dunford; sister -in-law Linda Lien; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Bob was predeceased by his first wife Kathy, parents Colburn “Ole” and Vera and brother Dean Lien.

 Nancy “Ileen” Sumner
1931 -2015
After a brief illness Ileen passed peacefully on April 20. She was born in the old Galt Hospital on February 4, 1931 to Wilfred and Polly Firth (nee Watmough). Her first home was in West Lethbridge where the present University of Lethbridge now stands.
When the family moved to the city they resided in the apartment above the present Greyhound Bus Depot. Ileen attended Central, Fleetwod, Westminster and graduated from LCI picking up lifetime friendships along the way.
Her first job was at Union Tractor (Caterpillar Dealer) located on 2nd Ave South. She then to joined the office staff at the Anderson- Speelman Chiropractic Clinic. Ileen greeted and helped thousands of patients over her 25 year tenure leading to a well-deserved retirement.
Ileen married Jack, the man of her dreams, on August 16, 1950. This union celebrated 51 anniversaries until Jack’s passing in 2002. She was a long time member of the Lethbridge Legion Ladies Auxiliary and was a frequent volunteer and supporter of the many activities that Jack was involved in. Ileen was most grateful and proud to be a member of one very unique, enduring and supportive friendship groups. This group of friends have met continuously for a total of 65 years and sadly with Ileen’s passing is now down to three.
Ileen was predeceased by her parents Wilfred and Polly, sister Winnifred, and brother Albert (Jean) Firth. She is survived by nieces and nephews, Rick (Deb) Martin, Tom Martin, Romona (Bruce) Quaale, Virginia (Bob) Smith, Jack (Gaye) Sleightholm, Betty (Doug) Florence, Rita Shaw, Don (Carol) Firth, Maxine,
Ken (Pat) Firth, Ted and Kelly Firth, Bob (Connie) Firth, Stuart (Lynn) Firth, Karen Firth Lorraine McIntyre.
As a member of a Pioneer Lethbridge Family Ileen was extremely proud of her 35 great, 32 great-great and 18 great-great-great nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Reception will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, April 24, 2015 at the ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION BRANCH #4, 324 Mayor Magrath Dr. South, Lethbridge (Use the North Entrance). Interment to follow in Mountain View Field of Honour.

JESSE SUURD-LIDSTER
, beloved husband of Amanda Suurd-Lidster, of Lethbridge, passed away at a young age suddenly at home on Wednesday. April 15, 2015 at the age of 29 years. Besides his loving wife Amanda, he is survived by his six year old son Sean Suurd-Lidster, parents Gerard Lidster and Jean Suurd as well as extended family members. Jesse was liked by all. He loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humour. Although he was born in Coaldale, he spent 25 years in Coalhurst. He moved his young family to Lethbridge, AB, where they lived until his passing. He will be sadly missed by his family, all of his close friends and extended family. Fred Kinniburgh
1949 – 2015
Frederick Kinniburgh, beloved husband of Daisy Kinniburgh, passed away in Lethbridge surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at the age of 65 years.
Besides his loving wife Daisy, Fred is survived by his children Sandi (Bernny) Kuejer of Coaldale, David (Darla) Kinniburgh of Edmonton and Stuart (Janelle) Kinniburgh of Lethbridge; grandchildren Karli (Justin) Barsness, Taya Kuejer, Chad Kuejer, Lexie Kinniburgh, Chayne Kinniburgh, Lawson Kinniburgh, Bailey Kinniburgh and Taylor Kinniburgh. He is also survived by his siblings Jack (Maureen) Kinniburgh, Gord Kinniburgh and Kate Jensen; sister-in-law Colleen Kinniburgh; uncle Ring Kinniburgh; in-laws Pat and Neil Jones, Leonard (Kathleen) Sanderson as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents Jack and Freda Kinniburgh, brother Ian Kinniburgh, brother-in-law Dwin Jensen, father and mother-in-law Albert and Edna Jones.
Fred was born in Taber on September 14, 1949 to Jack and Freda Kinniburgh, he was the oldest of five children. In his early years he enjoyed life on the farm and testing the limits of his parents patience. Flying was always a passion and by the time he was sixteen he was well on his way to his career of forty three years. Thanks to his dad Jack and Stubb Ross for getting him started, he was able to live out his dream as a pilot. He met Daisy in 1965 and started their family shortly there after. Family was always a focus and the older he got the more important they became. Spending time in the outdoors with family and friends was always one of his favorite activities. Hobbies included reading, crosswords, playing cards and story telling. He will be missed by all who knew him.
