COOK

Ronald Wesley Cook, 82, of Lethbridge, Alberta passed away quietly in his sleep Saturday April 25, 2015. He is predeceased by his parents Robert Wesley and Nora (Flavelle), his wife of 57 years, Carol (Leach) in January 2015, a daughter Leslie in 1979 and a brother Robert in 2005.Ron is survived by his 3 children, Michelle, Patti (Harold) and Mark; his grandchildren: Brad (Roza), Ryan (Erin, Layton, Brad), Shannon, Jacob and Adam; his sister Barbara (Keith) McCallum of London Ontario and his brother Ross (Denise) Cook of Sarnia, Ontario; a sister-in-law, Dorothy (Bob) Cook, brother-in-law Barry (Patty) Leach, sister-in-law Nonny (Colin) Leach as well as many nieces and nephews.Born in Toronto Ontario, Ron’s family moved to Sarnia, Ontario in 1940 and as a young man Ron fell in love with the “wild west” and vowed that he would settle there some day. Ron always fancied himself as another Grizzly Adams so it was no surprise when he fulfilled that wish in 1978 and settled in Lethbridge Alberta where he set up house for his family who followed him out in 1979. Ron and Carol had many adventures throughout the Rocky Mountains, Alberta and Montana over the years with their favourite haunts being Beaver Mines and Waterton Park. Among his many talents, Ron was a gifted woodworker. He crafted many “Woodthings by Cook”, gutted and renovated travel trailers as well as working in the construction industry for a living. Ronald was a huge fan of Walt Disney and all his Animations and had his hand in duplicating many of his characters over the years. You could always find Ron watching one of his Disney favorites on the telly on any given day. Ron will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at the NEW APOSTOLIC CHURCH, 115 Mt. Blakiston Road West, Lethbridge at 11:00 a.m.


COTE

RICHARD COTE, beloved husband of Bonnie Cote, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at the age of 63 years. A Celebration of Richard’s Life will be held at the COLLEGE DRIVE COMMUNITY CHURCH – 2710 College Drive South, Lethbridge, Alberta on Friday, May 1st, 2015 at 1:00 P.M.

CLARISSA & DAKOTA ENGLISH, passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at the ages of 24 & 18 years. Family, friends and community are all invited to a Candlelight Vigil at #1, 230 McGill Boulevard West, Lethbridge, AB on Friday, May 1, 2015 at 8:00 P.M. to pray and support the families during their time of tragic loss. Funeral arrangements to be announced once completed.


HAJNALKA SZILASI

With deep sadness we announce that our beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother, HAJNALKA SZILASI, passed away with her family by her side after a short battle with cancer at the age of 61 years. Hajnalka will be lovingly remembered by her husband Lajos, her children Réka (Dustin), Gergely (Angela) and grandchildren Zák, Erik, Zoli and Ada. She is also survived by her mother Margit Lakatos (Hungary) and brother Zsolt Lakatos (Hungary). Hajnalka was born and raised in Kolozsvár, Romania – a place she proudly called “home”, even after many years of living in Canada. She completed her university education in economics, married her husband Lajos and raised a young family while continuing to work in her profession. After immigrating to Canada in 1992, Hajnalka worked as an accountant in Lethbridge and became involved with the Hungarian community in Southern Alberta. She was an active member of both the Hungarian Old-Timers Club and the Hungarian Cultural Society, where she served as an executive and organized various cultural exhibits and celebrations. In both her work and personal life she valued meticulous attention to detail and would often work late into the evening perfecting a club newsletter or crafting the most fitting opening remarks for a given event. Above all, she loved her family and experienced the greatest joy spending time together sharing home cooked meals or vacationing in the BC hot springs. A Celebration of Life for Hajnalka will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. with Carol Gemer officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted by St. Michael’s Health Centre – Palliative Care Unit, 1400-9th Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 4V5.


HELGERSON

RAYMOND “DUKE” O. HELGERSON passed away on Monday, April 27, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Duke leaves behind his devoted wife of 65 years Eltie, his loving children: Shari (Sandy deceased) Kirbi and Brian, Bree and Sage; Kelcie and Tye. Diane (Mike) Jamie Lee and Randi – Cache and Harley; Cody, Ashley and Chris; Kyle. Wendy (Bob) Krystle. Vicki (Brad) Bradee and Taylor, Kaila. Ronnie Duke (Carrie) Colton, Daxon, Anna. Duke was born to Phil and Alma Helgerson on March 17, 1928 in Raymond. Dad always claimed the town was named after him (in 1902) and he had the title of “The Duke”. Duke’s early years were spent farming with his dad on the ridge. His working career started at age 15 on the Knight Ranch where he went haying and later cowboyed. Then onto MacIntyre Ranch and Farm. He then moved to Raymond where he took a job working for the town. He spent some time at the stockyards in Lethbridge and then finished his working years at the Raymond Home and Lethbridge Provincial building. Dad’s love was rodeo and hockey. He spent his life volunteering his time as a coach, fireman, EMR, on the Stampede Committee, and many others too numerous to mention. Everyone will remember him as the #1 sports fan Grampa Duke. Dad loved the town of Raymond and was genuinely interested in the welfare of the people in his town. He leaves behind a great legacy and will always be with us. Friends may meet the family on Friday, May 1, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the LDS – Raymond Stake Centre, or prior to the service on Saturday from 12:00 noon to 12:45 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Raymond Stake Centre, 2N 200 W, Raymond. Interment to follow in the Temple Hill Cemetery, Raymond.

LARSON

CAROL HELEN LARSON (nee Pipe), passed away at the Milk River Health Centre on Monday, April 27, 2015 at the age of 92 years. Carol is survived by her daughter Carolyn Fitch of Calgary, AB., her grandchildren Calvin (Carma) Fitch, of Milk River, Corey (Lottie) Fitch, of Red Deer, AB., Russell Fitch, of Milk River, AB., Laura (Jim) Downey of Calgary, AB. as well as 12 grandchildren: Carla (Joel), Jennifer (Mike), Alexis (Dan), Waylon (Milan), Sierra, Robyn, Brandi, Annaliese, Liam, Jayana, Tomas and Marin, great-grandchildren: Treycen, Noah, Amelia, Jack and Hadley Amerie and one sister, Olive Hanen of Calgary, AB. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Lourien Larson. Carol, who was also known as “Seedies”, was born in Calgary on December 25th, 1922 in a small house south of the Stampede grounds. She was a true Calgarian and loved her city. Carol, along with her sisters, became quite well known as the “Pipe Sisters” who sang at various venues in the city. During the Second World War, they sang at military bases across Alberta for our troops and soldiers from the Commonwealth who trained here. Carol was adventurous and along with her sister and two friends, rode in a caboose to Mission City, B.C. to make money picking berries. There, she met the love of her life, John (Lars) Lourien Larson, which created the second greatest love of her life, her daughter Carolyn Fitch. In 1960, she returned to Calgary where she worked for many years in the hospitality industry, eventually becoming senior management for Phil’s Pancake Houses and traveling around to many of their locations. In 1967, she moved to Red Deer, continuing to work as management in the hospitality industry at the Red Deer Lodge. In 1987, she and her daughter Carolyn moved to Canmore to take over management of the Akai Motel and hosted people from around the world during the Olympics. In 1994, they left the Akai and moved to Milk River, AB. Carol always considered herself a “Prairie Girl” and in picking a final place to reside, she chose Milk River with its open sunny skies, beautiful sunsets and the Sweet Grass Hills. She enjoyed small town life with its friendly people. Carol appreciated life and loved it to the fullest. Her life was full of work which she relished, laughter, singing, and dancing which she truly enjoyed, and spending time with her family whom she loved dearly. A Celebration of Life will be held at ST. PAUL’S UNITED CHURCH, 201 – 2nd Avenue N.E., Milk River, AB on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Glenda Wert officiating. An Interment Service will follow at the Milk River Cemetery. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers and in memory of Carol to the Prairie Rose Lodge 117 3rd Avenue N.W., Milk River, Alberta, T0K-1M0, and the Milk River Health Centre: 517 Centre Avenue N.E., Milk River, Alberta, T0K-1M0

VICTOR “VIC” O’BRIEN, beloved husband of Marnie O’Brien, of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Tuesday, April 28, 2015. At Vic’s request, no formal funeral service will be held.
