Thomas Band

1921 – 2015

Mr. Thomas Band of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Vera Band passed away at the St. Michael’s Health Centre on Wednesday April 22, 2015 at the age of 93 years. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00pm, Thursday, April 30, 2015 at ST. AUGUSTINE’S ANGLICAN CHURCH, 411-11th Street South, Lethbridge, AB, with Canon James Robinson officiating. BROWN

ALICE “LUCILLE” HANCOCK BROWN, beloved wife of the late Morris Brown, passed away at St. Michael’s Health Care Centre on Saturday, April 25, 2015 surrounded by family. She leaves to mourn seven children: Marilyn Bailes, Darrel (Jeanne) Brown, Sandra Thom, Karen (Wayne) Lindwall, Colin Brown, Rick (Shelley) Brown, and Cyndee (Fred) Mandeville; 15 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. She is also survived by Morris’ sisters Marjorie Brown and Vivian Davies. Lucille was predeceased by her husband Morris, son Billy, parents Joseph and Grace Hancock and her six siblings. Lucille and Morris were married December 12, 1940 and they farmed and raised their eight children on the Milk River Ridge south of Raymond. They sold the farm in 1993 and moved to Lethbridge and resided at Parkbridge Estates until December 2010. Lucille resided at Alberta Rose Lodge for 3 1/2 years and then St. Michael’s Health Care Centre for the last 13 months. Lucille and Morris enjoyed camping and spent many family holidays in Waterton Lakes National Park. They also spent many winters in Mesa, Arizona in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. They also had the opportunity to vacation in Hawaii and enjoy an Alaskan cruise. Mom spent many hours crocheting and quilting. She was a great cook and her buns, cinnamon buns and pies, were to die for, as were her homemade chocolates. Special thanks to the Staff at St. Michael’s Health Care Centre who took such good care of her and loved her like family. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 1, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at CHRISTENSEN SALMON GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703-13 Street North, Lethbridge. Interment to follow at the Archmount Cemetery, Lethbridge. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the “Gillis House” at St. Michael’s Health Care Centre, 1400-9 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 4V5.


COTE

RICHARD PAUL COTE, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at the age of 63 years. Richard’s early years were spent in Hardieville and he graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1971. Throughout his life, he worked hard from a mechanic to family owned and operated businesses. Richard is lovingly remembered by his wife of 40 years, Bonnie, their sons Christopher (Connie), Daniel (Shannon), Jonathan (Marla) and Andrew (Jilana), grandchildren Paisley, Keira, Riley, Bowen, Gage, Katie, Logan, Jayme, Trinda, Keeton and Kalis, parents Leo & Velma Cote, siblings Don (Linda), Ken (Rita), Dave, Karen (Ed), Linda (Ron), and extended families. He was predeceased by his son, Jeffery, father-in-law Dan McEwen and best friend Brian Pierson. Richard fought a brave battle against cancer with a positive attitude. He touched many lives and will be remembered by those who knew him. A heartfelt thank you to the doctors and staff on 4B at the Chinook Regional Hospital. A Celebration of Richard’s Life will be held at the COLLEGE DRIVE COMMUNITY CHURCH – 2710 College Drive South, Lethbridge, Alberta on Friday, May 1st, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. KLAAS “CLARENCE” DYKSTRA passed away at the St. Michael’s Health Centre on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at the age of 76 years. Cremation. A private family service will be held.


Ivan Edge 1931 – 2015

HELGERSON

RAYMOND “DUKE” O. HELGERSON, beloved husband of Eltie Helgerson, passed away in Lethbridge on Monday, April 27, 2015 at the age of 87 years. Friends may meet the family on Friday, May 1, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the LDS – Raymond Stake Centre, or prior to the service on Saturday from 12:00 noon to 12:45 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Raymond Stake Centre, 2N 200 W, Raymond. Interment to follow in the Temple Hill Cemetery, Raymond.


Eric Evalt Hohm

1925 – 2015

Eric was born in Schedlisken (Germany) on February 16, 1925 to Ida Zerbe of the Euchraine and Adam Hohm of Poland and came to Canada at the age of three years to “Hillfarm” near Lemberg, Saskatchewan. The family (consisting of parents a younger brother Irvin, born 1927 (deceased 1992) moved to Abernethy, SK. Summers were spent working for farmers in the area. His sister, Lillian, born in Abernethy in 1930 now deceased in 1962. Eric joined the RCAF and graduated as Wireless Air Gunner. In 1946 Eric obtained a job with PFRA (Prairie Farmers Rehabilitation Association), working on the building of the St. Mary Irrigation Dam. He spent several months at the South Saskatchewan Dam supervising the grouting. Eric became an Inspector and Maintenance Superintendent of the dams and canals in the area of St. Mary Dam. On July 16, 1952, he married Mary Yvonne Turner. Eric retired in 1981 and they moved to an acreage southwest of Magrath. They had three children: Gordon, deceased in 2014 (Cathy), Shari (Fern) and Roger (Fran). LARSON

CAROL HELEN LARSON (nee Pipe), passed away at the Milk River Health Centre on Monday, April 27, 2015 at the age of 92 years. Carol is survived by her daughter Carolyn Fitch of Calgary, AB., her grandchildren Calvin (Carma) Fitch, of Milk River, Corey (Lottie) Fitch, of Red Deer, AB., Russell Fitch, of Milk River, AB., Laura (Jim) Downey of Calgary, AB. as well as 12 grandchildren: Carla (Joel), Jennifer (Mike), Alexis (Dan), Sierra, Robyn, Brandi, Annaliese, Liam, Jayana, Tomas and Marin, great- grandchildren: Treycen, Noah, Amelia, Jack and Hadley Amerie and one sister, Olive Hanen of Calgary, AB. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Lourien Larson. Carol, who was also known as “Seedies”, was born in Calgary on December 25th, 1922 in a small house south of the Stampede grounds. She was a true Calgarian and loved her city. Carol, along with her sisters, became quite well known as the “Pipe Sisters” who sang at various venues in the city. During the Second World War, they sang at military bases across Alberta for our troops and soldiers from the Commonwealth who trained here. Carol was adventurous and along with her sister and two friends, rode in a caboose to Mission City, B.C. to make money picking berries. There, she met the love of her life, John (Lars) Lourien Larson, which created the second greatest love of her life, her daughter Carolyn Fitch. In 1960, she returned to Calgary where she worked for many years in the hospitality industry, eventually becoming senior management for Phil’s Pancake Houses and traveling around to many of their locations. In 1967, she moved to Red Deer, continuing to work as management in the hospitality industry at the Red Deer Lodge. In 1987, she and her daughter Carolyn moved to Canmore to take over management of the Akai Motel and hosted people from around the world during the Olympics. In 1994, they left the Akai and moved to Milk River, AB. Carol always considered herself a “Prairie Girl” and in picking a final place to reside, she chose Milk River with its open sunny skies, beautiful sunsets and the Sweet Grass Hills. She enjoyed small town life with its friendly people. Carol appreciated life and loved it to the fullest. Her life was full of work which she relished, laughter, singing, and dancing which she truly enjoyed, and spending time with her family whom she loved dearly. A Celebration of Life will be held at ST. PAUL’S UNITED CHURCH, 201 – 2nd Avenue N.E., Milk River, AB on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Glenda Wert officiating. An Interment Service will follow at the Milk River Cemetery. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers and in memory of Carol to the Prairie Rose Lodge 117 3rd Avenue N.W., Milk River, Alberta, T0K-1M0, and the Milk River Health Centre: 517 Centre Avenue N.E., Milk River, Alberta, T0K-1M0
