 Marguerite Lucille Peta
December 7, 1922 – May 1, 2015
We regret to announce the passing of Marguerite Peta at the age of 92 years on May 1, 2015. She died peacefully surrounded by family at the Carewest Sarcee Hospice in Calgary.
Marguerite was a caring and loving person who will be dearly missed by her children; Jim Peta (Lynn Davies), Frances (Reg) MacDonald; grandchildren Leann MacDonald (Chris Fobert), Jill (Derek) Temush, and Scott MacDonald; and by daughter-in-law Tina Rittinger. Her husband Frank Peta, brother Allen Ross, and son Roger Peta predeceased her.
Marguerite was born in Drumheller to George and Jenny Ross and grew up near Morrin AB on the family farm. In 1943, she received a teaching certificate from the Calgary Normal School. She taught at a one-room schoolhouse near Rimby for two years before continuing her career in Wrentham and then Taber. In 1950, Marguerite returned to Wrentham to marry Frank Peta and taught for another two years before leaving to work on the family farm, raise three children and teach part time. Marguerite was a devout Christian and an enduring member of the Wrentham Community Church. Marguerite devoted time to many community activities including serving as a Sunday school teacher and Cub Scout leader. She was a dedicated volunteer and was often seen canvassing for various charities in the Wrentham area. This gave her the opportunity to meet with almost everyone in the area on a regular basis, which she enjoyed very much. She served on the Canadian Cancer Society Lethbridge Unit Board of Directors, as well as the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta Provincial Board of Directors. When the Prairie Winds Clubhouse in Claresholm needed a new building, she was instrumental in raising the needed funds for a down payment on the building they now occupy. In 2004, she moved from the farm to the Legion Terrace in Lethbridge where she lived independently until recently. Later in life, as her eyesight failed and her mobility decreased, she continued to give by crocheting blankets and donating them to Blankets for Canada.
A Funeral Service for Marguerite will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 8, 2015 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4th Street South, Lethbridge, AB with Pastor Brian Magee officiating. A private interment will take place at the Wrentham Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Marguerite can be made to the Prairie Winds Clubhouse, PO Box 1354, Claresholm AB, T0L 0T0 or to the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta (Lethbridge & Area Branch 234C 12th Street B North Lethbridge, Alberta T1H 2K7, donate on line at schizophrenia.ab.ca).

In later years Marie and Henry moved

 Dolores Viani

Dolores Viani of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Antonio Viani, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 in the Lethbridge hospital following a fall where she broke her leg close to the hip.
Dolores Ciolfitto was born April 22, 1927 in Civitanova del Sannio Italy, a little town east of Rome where she was raised and later met and married her husband – Antonio Viani and later welcomed a son – Joseph Thomas in September of 1951. Dolores worked their land while Antonio worked in Belgium in the coal mines to save enough money to immigrate to Canada which they did in 1959. They traveled by boat from Rome to Halifax Nova Scotia, then by train to Lethbridge where they were met by other family members and friends.
Dolores worked various jobs in Lethbridge – Canadian Linen, Park Plaza, El Rancho Hotel and the Ericksons Restaurant before retiring in 1984.
Gardening was her favorite hobby which kept her very busy most of the year. She used every square inch of her yard for all the vegetables and flowers. Her garden was incredible with beans growing to over 6 feet high all carefully tied up to poles, as well as cucumbers, peas, zucchini, potatoes, lettuce and the best tasting tomatoes anywhere, which she freely shared with her family and neighbours. When she wasn’t in her garden she was canning or freezing all that produce or making the best pasta and sauces and homemade donuts and congelle which she loved to make for her three grandchildren.
Dolores was predeceased by her mother Cristina Fiorante (Ciolfitto) in the early 1950’s while still in Italy, and her father Felice Ciolfitto, who followed the family to Canada in the mid 1960’s passed away in 1983 here in Lethbridge. She was also predeceased by her sister and only other sibling, Giovanna (Ciolfitto) Padula in 1991.
Dolores is survived by her devoted son and only child, Joseph and his wife Brenda. Dolores is also survived by three beautiful grandchildren, Tracey Viani, Tony (Savrina) Viani and Michael Viani all of Lethbridge and all of whom she is very proud of as they are very special to her. She was very happy to hear she has a great-grandchild on the way.
