DE GROOT
DORIS JEAN DE GROOT
(nee Moore), beloved wife of the late Edward De Groot, of Lethbridge, AB., went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at the age of 92 years.
She is survived by her children Jack (Emily), Gloria (Michael), Darlene and Greg (Melody), grandchildren, great-grandchildren and brothers Ken (Lori) and Vernon (Margaret).
She was predeceased by husband Ed, parents John and Jean Moore, sisters, Eileen and Edith and her twin brother Wesley.
Doris was born October 16, 1922 on the family farm near Ryerson, Saskatchewan with her twin brother Wesley. They were surrounded by love with two older sisters and two younger brothers. Brother Vernon has fond memories of going to school with Doris, walking, riding a horse or perched on the handlebars of her bicycle. She never learned to read music but Doris taught herself to play piano and loved to play and sing her favourite hymns.
Doris later moved to Winnipeg where she was involved with the Union Gospel Mission, worked at Hudson’s Bay and married Ed De Groot. Together, they raised four children, loved to travel, visiting relatives in B.C., Louisiana and California. Doris also visited Northern Ireland (where her parents were from) and loved to entertain Irish relatives visiting Canada.

In 1980, Ed and Doris moved to Lethbridge, where they made many friends and enjoyed spending time with kids and grandkids. Doris attended the Salvation Army, women’s bible study and generously supported missionary endeavors.
Doris made many friends and will be greatly missed by all she knew, especially staff at the Edith Cavell Care Centre. We will not know, this side of heaven, how many lives were blessed by knowing Doris.
“Trust in the
Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
