(FORMERLY DE JAGER)
“For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love for those who fear Him” Psalm 103: 11.
It is with
sadness that we announce that Florence Kalsbeek was called home by her Lord on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the age of 81 years. Florence was married to John Kalsbeek and resided at Elim Village, Surrey, BC.
She was born in the Netherlands on December 31, 1933 and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1952. She settled and worked in the Lethbridge area. In 1956 she married Casey De Jager, who became a prominent Lethbridge furniture businessman. Casey passed away in 1988. Florence married John and moved to Ladner, BC in 1990.
Florence was a stay at home mom who enjoyed raising her children, cooking, baking, gardening, music, the outdoors and helping others. She volunteered in the local Christian School attended by her children. Florence was a life-long, active member of the Christian Reformed Church and most recently a member of Fleetwood CRC. In her later years she volunteered with the Ladner Food Bank and helped with gardening at Elim Village. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She had a big heart with room for everyone, a caring heart that reached out to those in need and a servant’s heart that always put others first. Florence’s life was a testament to Jesus Christ, her Lord, who we believe called her home with the words “Well done, my good and faithful servant”.
Florence is survived by her loving husband, John; sons, Charles (Joyce) De Jager and Tom (Dawn) De Jager; daughters, Sylvia (Henry) Barthel, Julia (Mike) de Boer and Bev (Richard) Grisnich; step-son, Martin (Dawn) Kalsbeek; step-daughters, Betty and Caroline Kalsbeek; 21 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dick (Jennie) Bosch, Jerry (June) Bosch; sisters, Grace (Louis) De Jager, Dorothy (Henry) Van Boven and Henny (Peter) Schalk.
Florence was predeceased by her loving husband, Casey, her mother, Sytske, father, Theunis, and brothers, Steve and Jake.
