MR. DON VERNON BERENT, loving husband of the late Lucille Berent, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness, surrounded by family at St. Michael’s Health Centre – Palliative Care Unit on Tuesday July 14, 2015 at the age of 80 years.
Don was born to Pat and Lenora Berent on December 25, 1934 at the family home in Claresholm. He was brother to Faye (Bob) Whitlock, Rita (Ross) Lyon, Gerry (Kathie) Berent, Deanna (Don) Niemetz, and Darrell Berent. Don is survived by his three children; Jim (Sheri) Berent, their children Meaghan (Elliot) Tweedy, Mackenzie Berent and great grandchild Crosby Tweedy; Darla (Tim) Superkoski, their daughter Kahlaya (Graison) Clarke; Roger (Becky) Berent. There were many extended family, “adopted” children, and grandchildren he loved as his own.
Don married the love of his life, Lucille, on June 8, 1957. They spent 55 wonderful years together. Don and Lucy’s home was open to all and a haven of love, laughter and warmth to many.
Don was known as a spiritual man. His relationship with his Heavenly Father was very important to him. He had great faith in the Bible’s promise of a resurrection on a paradise earth, where pain, sorrow and death will be done away with. His fondest wish was to be reunited with his beloved Lucy.
“Always work together as a family”; “Leave it in Jehovah’s hands”; and “Do I need to draw you a map”, were some of his favourite sayings. He loved laughing and sharing jokes and maintained a sense of humour even in very distressing times. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He took special joy in his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Grampa’s arms were always open and full of love. We look forward to seeing you again soon Dad. You were our hero.
We, as his family, wish to express our sincere gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff at the Chinook Regional Hospital and St. Mikes Health Centre – Palliative Care Unit. Your care was exceptional!
Thanks to all his regular visitors, he was truly grateful and encouraged by your loving concern.
