 Gerarda (Gerdie) Greene
1933 – 2015
Gerarda (Gerdie) Greene of Lethbridge, beloved wife of Jack Rice, passed away at Chinook Regional Hospital on July 18, 2015 at the age of 82 years.
Born in Mill, Holland on April 17, 1933, Gerdie and her family immigrated to Canada in 1948 to the Lethbridge area. Gerdie took great pride in becoming a Canadian citizen and worked hard at learning the customs and language of her new country. While working at the Carmangay Hospital she met her future husband Boyd Greene. They married on July 27th, 1951 and made their home east of Carmangay on the Marvin Greene homestead, later moving to the John Olson homestead where they resided until moving to Lethbridge in 1993. Gerdie was very active in the Carmangay community. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, cake decorating, camping, travelling and going to the casino. A few years after Boyd’s passing, Gerdie met Jack Rice and was married on August 5, 2007. They resided in their home in Lethbridge until her passing. Gerdie’s greatest pleasure was spending time with family and friends.
Besides her loving husband Jack, Gerdie is survived by her two daughters Deb (Noel) Hyslip and Cathy Halverson and four sons Gordon (Lori) Greene, Dennis (Brenda) Greene, Brian (Cecelia) Greene and Dan (Shari) Greene as well as two stepchildren Greg (Debbie) Rice and Thurza (Valentino) McBean. Grandchildren Scott (Jenna) Greene, Denise (Colin) Olson; James (Kim) Greene, Corey (Joelene) Greene, Melissa Greene; Derek (Elaine) Greene, Jacqueline (Stephen) Thornhill, Melanie (Cory) Cornwall, Kody (Megan) Greene; Tyler Greene, Alena (Eric) Matlock; Jay Hyslip, ten great grandchildren, five sisters and one brother.
Gerdie was predeceased by her loving husband Boyd Greene and her parents Gerardus & Hendricka Hurkens and Marvin & Pearl Greene. She was also predeceased by her granddaughters Erin and Megan Hyslip and son in law Mark Halverson. Numerous brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and friends.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects between 7:00 pm and 8:00 pm on Wednesday, July 22nd, 2015 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4th Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta.

MAHON, RICHARD “RICK”
Sept 27, 1931- July 9, 2015
With great sadness we announce the death of RICK MAHON, beloved husband of Florence, at St Michael’s Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit in Lethbridge after a prolonged battle with cancer.
Known for his chainsaw carvings, his Taiko drumming, his love of karate and his sense of humor, Rick is survived by his loving wife, Florence, step-sons Glenn Hamilton (Debbie) and Garth Hamilton, and many friends and family.

 PITTMAN
RONALD NORBERT PITTMAN, beloved husband of De Etta Pittman of Picture Butte, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at the age of 78 years.
He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, as well as a life member of the Alberta Fish & Game Association including being on the Executive of Alberta, Lethbridge and Picture Butte. Raised in Warner he had been a farmer all his life including the areas of Warner, Spirit River & Picture Butte.
Along with farming he always had his livestock including purebred Black Angus & Commercial Cattle, sheep, pigs, turkeys (his favorite haha) and his favorite horses including Lady. He was on the school board at Blueberry Mountain and had operated a Grain Elevator in Taber & Cranford. He always had a story to tell!
He married De Etta Bixby on July 1, 1961 and they had two children, son Logan (Donna) Pittman, their children Connor and Jillian; daughter Nola (Doug Kast) and their children Keylee and Kyle.
He is survived by three brothers; Gerry (Sally) Pittman, Dave (Joan) Pittman and Gord (Jane) Pittman, as well as his brother-in-law Layne (Gail) Bixby and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Prayer Vigil will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME – 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, Alberta on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 7:00 P.M. with Deacon Cliff Bogdan

QUANTZ, RUSSELL
1918 – 2015
Russell Melville Quantz, passed away and went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 15th 2015 at the age of 96.
Russell Quantz was born on Saturday, November 2nd, 1918 on the family homestead located near Tincherbray, Alberta. He was the second oldest in a family of eight boys and two girls.
Russell was a proud veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force. He enlisted in 1942 and was subsequently posted to Leeming RAF base in England. He served his country attached to the 427 Lion Squadron for the duration of the war. While in England he met and married the love of his life, Elsie Tranter. Russell returned to Canada, finished his High School education and in 1949 graduated with a Bachelor of Theology from Canadian Nazarene College in Red Deer. Reverend Quantz pastored churches in Eckville, Rocky Mountain House, Lougheed, Sheffield England, Caroline, Westlock (Dapp and Jarvie), Claresholm and Picture Butte. In retirement Russell and Elsie returned to Caresholm where he has lived until his passing.
Russell is predeceased by his wife, Elsie (2008) and son David (1951). Russell is survived by his loving family, four children, Joan (Rod) Dyrholm, Stanley (Sherill), Alma (Bill) Malcolm and Samuel (Carolyn), ten grandchildren; Mark Dyrholm, Shane Quantz, Matthew Dyrholm, Michelle Dyrholm, Sabrina Gillow, Samantha Quantz, Luke Malcolm, Jeffery Malcolm, Taylor Quantz and Samuel Quantz plus five great grandchildren.
Russell’s funeral service will be held Saturday, July 25 at 2 PM at Leyden’s Funeral Home, 4079 – 1st Street, W. Claresholm Alberta.
Internment will take place Monday July 27th 2015 at Pine Grove Cemetery, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta at 1:00 pm.

Doris Olson
1920 – 2015
Doris May Olson, passed away peacefully in Bow Island on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the age of 94 years.

Doris is survived by three children Darryl (Marlene) Olson of Taber, Eleanor Dorren of Lethbridge and Duane Olson of Bow Island; grandchildren Candice (Wayne Reti), Kent, Lisa (Jim Meckelborg), Chad (Allison), Jennifer (Jeremy), Blake (Leslie), Jason (Marsha); great grandchildren Wyatt and Makenna Reti, Livia and Reid Meckelborg, Derek Dorren, Alyssa and Jessie.
She was predeceased by her son John Kenneth “Ken” Olson and her sister Margaret Hill and brother-in-law Pat Hill.
Doris was born on the family farm near Bow Island on September 9, 1920. She worked for many years in the kitchen of the Bow Island Hospital. Doris was an accomplished gardener and enjoyed sharing much of her bountiful harvest with family and friends. She had a love for animals and enjoyed many domestic activities including cooking and canning.
Doris will be dearly missed.
