Adam was born on April 1st, 1935 in Melfort, Sask, the sixth of 11 children to Michael and Anne Brodoway. Adam and Shirley took over the family farm and farmed it on their own for approximately 11yrs. Adam enjoyed sports and was pretty good at baseball and played on a well known local team called the Brooksby Rockets, as well, he curled in the winter months to stay active when he wasn’t working on the farm. Adam also played guitar in a local band called the “Rhythm Kings”. Adam was truly blessed to meet the love of his life, a young Shirley McRae from the Ridgedale area. Adam and Shirley were officially married on May 2nd, 1959. Mom was right by his side to the very end. Together they raised 4 children and were blessed with 6 granddaughters and 1 great grandson. Adam was an avid fan of hockey (Calgary Flames), and he loved to watch curling as well. His attention to detail was second to none, and people would always talk about how perfectly maintained his properties were.

DAVIS

“I remember Daddy’s hands

How they held my Mama tight

And patted my back

For something done right.

There are things that I’ve forgotten

That I loved about the man

But I will always remember

The love in Daddy’s hands.”

Our dad, DOUGLAS KEITH DAVIS, was reunited with our mom, Donna and others he loved on September 19, 2015.

Doug was born December 28, 1927 in Swift Current, Sask. Canada. He was the only living child of Alvin K. Davis and Muriel Ann Chant. Dad grew up in the small Canadian towns of Webb, Swift Current and Dawson Creek playing on the farm, learning to drive at age 12 and finally, learning the craft of welding at age 17 which would become his life long career.

Dad and mom came to California in the late 1950’s and lived here until September of 1994 when they returned to live in Canada after Dad’s retirement.

After many years of working for others he was able to open his own shop, D&D Welding in Camarillo in the mid 1970’s. He loved his work and was very concerned about the type of service he provided to others. He was very exacting in his welding because he knew others were depending on him to do it right.

Dad loved airplanes, motorcycles, and engines of all kinds. He loved his family and was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He fulfilled all that he needed to do on this earth and then some when he was able to motorcycle through the Sequoias, travel to London, England, ice skate in New York at Rockefeller Center, own a home in the beautiful woods of Beaver Mines, Alberta, Canada and serve as part of the town’s volunteer fire crew. It was a full and wonderful life.

Doug was preceded by his parents, a sister, Mae, stepson, Craig and his two wives, Donna Maurine Obray and Virginia Huff Christian. He is survived by his children Muriel Bass (Chuck), Sandy Rasmussen (Ron) and Douglas (Yvonne) Davis and bonus children Verlie Howser (Alan), Jeff Christian (Nora) and Cindy Christian. Direct descendant grandchildren include, Marisa, Christal, Keely, Melinda, Chelsea, Blythe, Hope, Ashlyn, Evan, Chad and ending with 25 great grandchildren who loved their “old Papa”. We would like to give an extra thank you to Dad’s caregiver, Rosario Lopez, who not only surrounded Dad with kindness, concern and love, but loved us just as well. Thank you from all the spaces in our hearts, you have been our angel.

The Funeral service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints, Pincher Creek, Alberta on Friday, October 2, 2015 at 11:00 a.m.

Friends may meet the family from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment to follow in the Cardston Cemetery.

WEERSTRA

ANDREW WEERSTRA:

May 15, 1931 – September 23, 2015, passed away in his sleep at the Edith Cavell Care Center having lived an extraordinary, experiential life. Andrew was born on the family farm east of Granum Alberta, the youngest of 5 children to Granum Pioneers Ranze and Tjitske Weerstra. He was predeceased by his wife Norma, his daughter Barbara Clay and Brothers Joe and Roy Weerstra. He leaves to mourn and celebrate his life, his children Wendy Weerstra (Cochrane) and Donna Weerstra (Oryst Kowal) of Calgary and his son John Weerstra (Sylvia) of Bragg Creek, two sisters Jenny deClearq (Calgary) and Johanna Mackintosh (Claresholm), the mother of his children Isobel Gossel (Calgary) his step children, Allan, Mike, Terry Mayderof Calgary and Wendy Huppe of Bragg Creek. He has 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews all of whom enjoyed spending time with Uncle Andrew.

Andrew established early in life his passion to explore, dream and conceptualize adventures, business proposals as well as multiple social, political and community enhancing initiatives. He achieved many goals; boxing when he attended SAIT as a young man, playing ball, stock car racing, curling and earning his wings to fly private aircraft. He taught his young family to boat, water ski and fish. He loved camping and spent splendid years with Norma “at the lake”. Ever a jokester, he teased, laughed and enjoyed many a good joke. Using his humour, wisdom and passion for municipal affairs he was elected Mayor of Granum, where he worked with his many friends in his beloved home town. Andrew made long standing friendships, always willing to assist others. He was also a friend of Bill W. with whom he shared his most spiritual moments.

Failing health and vision necessitated a move to Lethbridge where he received care, and lived closer to his grandchildren and great- grandchildren. The last few years were likely his most challenging as he bravely contested his declining abilities. He did, however, maintain his interest in politics, current world news and shenanigans of his great grandchildren. He enjoyed having historical, scientific books and articles being read to him. The world has lost a great man.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 – Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, on Saturday, October 3rd, 2015 at 11 A.M., with Reverend Glenda Wert officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date.

Flowers are gratefully declined. In memory of Andrew, contributions may be made to STREETS ALIVE, 323 – 4 Street South, Lethbridge, AB. T1J 1Z9
