1928 – 2015

Mr. Michael “Mike” Bitango of Lethbridge, passed away at Good Samaritans Park Meadows on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the age of 87 years.

Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held at 7:00pm on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4th Street South, Lethbridge, AB with Deacon Frank Peta officiating.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

Virginia “Gina” Cattoni

1924 – 2015

Virginia “Gina” Cattoni passed away peacefully in Lethbridge at Chinook Regional Hospital, surrounded by her family, on Friday October 30, 2015 at the age of 91 years.

Gina was born and raised in Manzano di Mori, Trento, Italy. She followed the love of her life, her late husband Joseph Cattoni, when she moved to Canada in 1950. The two were married on December 26, 1950. Gina and Joe were lifetime members of the Romulus and Remus Italian Canadian Club and were proud of their Italian roots. She worked for years at the University of Lethbridge and truly loved her time there. In 1986, Gina retired to take care of her grandchildren. Family meant everything to her and she was happiest when surrounded by the people she loved.

She also loved her home and especially her garden. She had a green thumb and would spend hours in her garden. Geraniums were her flower of choice and they lined the steps to her house with bright red and pink blossoms. Another passion of Gina’s was knitting. She was a master with knitting needles and was proud to show others her beautifully crafted sweaters and blankets. She was also a talented cook; a talent which frequently brought her family together. Gina’s love of life, warmth, genuine care for others, patience and sense of humour will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She lived a long life and we feel blessed to have shared, with her, so many wonderful memories.

Gina is survived by her children Renzo of Toronto, Doris (John) Kostiuk of Lethbridge and their children Elaina (Shane) and Lorenzo, Sergio (Renee) of Lethbridge and their children Colby-Jo (Tyler) and Matteo, and Mauro of Lethbridge, and his children Eric and Alexandra; brother Francesco (Carolina) Vettori of Italy; sister-in-law Lilia Cattoni, brother-in-law John Augustyn, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gina was predeceased by her parents Giorgio and Coronata Vettori; her husband Joseph Cattoni; her sister, Amalia Augustyn; and her brother Remo Vettori.

Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held at 7:00pm on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4th Street South, Lethbridge.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at ST. BASILS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 604 – 13th Street North, Lethbridge, with Father Lukas Drapal officiating. Interment to follow in Mountain View Cemetery.

Flowers gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society at 724 13 St N, Lethbridge, AB T1H 2T1.

HARVEY

ERNEST “BRUCE” HARVEY, beloved husband of the late Ruth, left this world peacefully on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 in Raymond at the age of 79 years.

He is the loving father of Patricia of Lundbreck, Phil (Wendy) of Raymond, Andy (Shannon) of Chilliwack, B.C., Rob (Shelly) of Stirling, Kim (Robert) of Lethbridge and Penny (Jason) also of Lethbridge. He leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Elva.

Dad was predeceased by his wife Ruth, parents Ernest and Ervie Harvey, in-laws Raymond and Nellie Watson, and Lou Watson.

Dad was born October 13, 1936 in Gormley, Ontario to Ernest and Ervie Harvey. He met his one true love and they married in 1955. Dad loved to tinker with anything that needed fixing and spent many hours in his shop. He was a handy guy and well known in the community as the “appliance repair man”. His evenings were spent side by side with Mom discussing the finer points of life or he was at the auction sales where he never could pass up a bargain. He was known for his infectious smile and great sense of humor. Dad was an active and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Ronald Patrick Jackson

1938 – 2015

It is with immense sadness we announce the passing of Ronald Patrick Jackson on October 29, 2015 at the age of 77 years. His beloved wife Margaret predeceased him nine months earlier.

He will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his children Ross (Marika) of Edmonton, and Julie of Lethbridge; grandchildren Alisha, Ashlee, Baylee, Jordan, Liam, Nolan and Olivia; great grandchildren Dominic and Teigan; sister Kitty Bain of Scotland; brothers Danny (Thelma) Jackson of Bancroft, ON, and Jackie (Jeanie) Jackson of Richmond, BC; sister-in-law’s Joan (Denis) Joyce of New Zealand and Eileen Ross of New Zealand; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife, son-in-law Al Friesen, his sister Peggy Jackson, brother-in-law John Ross of New Zealand, sister-in-law Eileen Joseph of New Zealand, brother-in-law John Joseph of New Zealand, and parents John and Katherine.

Ron was born 3rd son of Katherine and John in Beresford Lake, Manitoba on January 2, 1938. His younger years were spent living throughout Manitoba, and Northern Ontario. Ron had great adventures travelling the world. He met the love of his life Margaret travelling in New Zealand. They finally settled in 1971 in Coleman, AB, to raise their family. In 2001 they moved to Lethbridge, AB.

Ron was a miner, he worked in many mines throughout Canada, New Zealand and Australia. He was an expert at driving “the Terex Titan”, the world’s largest truck in its time, displayed now in Sparwood, BC.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30am on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4th Street South, with Maureen Condon Horon officiating.

SIMPSON

July 21, 1920, Vancouver BC – October 30, 2015, Lethbridge AB

JOHN JOSEPH (JACK) SIMPSON, beloved husband of the late Eileen Simpson, passed away Friday, October 30, 2015 at the age of 95 years surrounded by his family.

John is survived by his sister Agnes Heppner, his son John (Pat) Simpson and his daughter Margaret Leys. John has also left behind four grandchildren: Cameron Simpson, Curtis Simpson, Doug (Luana) Leys, Alivia (Ian) Bokvist-Leys as well as four great-grandchildren: Miranda (Simpson) Hargreaves, Mackenzie Bokvist, Cullan Bokvist, and Jack Leys.

John was predeceased by, his parents John and Margaret, his brothers Leo and Eddie, and his sisters Catherine, Marge and Isabelle.

John spent his early life in Vancouver until his family relocated to the Pincher Creek area. He was kept busy working on the family farm. In April 1941, John was deployed overseas and served in the First Armed Brigade R.C.E.M.E and held the rank of Craftsman.

During some time spent in England, John met the love of his life Eileen O’Sullivan. When the war ended in 1945, John made the move back to Southern Alberta with Eileen and their infant son John. Not long after they were settled, they were blessed with another child, daughter Margaret. While the kids were young, John ranched and farmed in the Pincher Creek and Lethbridge area. Eventually, John and Eileen moved the family to Lethbridge, and in 1960 he began a 25 year career as a postal carrier with Canada Post until his retirement in 1985.

John was an avid outdoorsmen – he loved fishing and camping, especially sitting around the campfire. He loved being surrounded by family and friends and never turned down a good game of cribbage or a round of darts. He was more than happy to welcome visitors and was quick to offer a drink – dark rum and coke was his favorite.

John was much loved and will be missed by many. He didn’t leave this world without imparting on his friends and family the importance of enjoying the simple pleasures in life – a roaring campfire, a good story, or a funny joke. But most importantly, he knew the value of family and was always there when needed.

A funeral service will be held at CHRISTENSEN SALMON GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703-13 Street North, Lethbridge, on Wednesday, Nov 4th, 2015 at 1:00 p.m.
