Bill “William” Sosick

1920 – 2017

On Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Chinook Regional Hospital, Bill Sosick passed away surrounded by his loving family at the age of 96 years. Bill was born May 9, 1920 in Yugoslavia to parents Joe and Julia. He had four brothers; Pete, Louie, Morris and John. Bill immigrated to Canada in 1938 and settled in Picture Butte, Alberta. He worked in the sugar beet fields until he joined the Canadian Army in 1942. In 1947, he married the love of his life, Agnes (Wright). They were blessed with 8 children. Bill initially worked construction then began farming in 1952. They continued farming in the Picture Butte area for the next 40 plus years. Bill and Agnes recently celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary on January 22, 2017. Besides his loving wife, Dad will be fondly remembered by his children; Sharon (Bruce) McKay, Valerie (Doug) Munton, Gloria (Vinko) Nemecek, Calvin (Penny) Sosick, Colleen (Don) Shimek, Craig Sosick, Leanne Sosick; 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Bill leaves to mourn his brothers; Louie (Johanna) Sosick, Morris (Joanne) Sosick; cousin Branko (Anica) Hrstic and their families. Also left to mourn are Agnes’ siblings Dorothy (Alex) Murrell, Jimmy (Julie) Wright, Elaine Wright, Tommy Wright, Dianna Wright and their families. Bill was predeceased by his parents Joe and Julia; brothers John and Pete; sons Barry and Larry; grandson Bradley and great grandson Karter. He was also predeceased by Agnes’ siblings Francie Wright, Isabel (Harry) Chemelli, Barbara (George) Kokayko, Johnny Wright and David Wright. Dad’s passion for life, love for family and friends, patience, twinkle in his eye and infectious smile will always be remembered. The family is grateful for the loving care Bill received at the Lodge and Piyami Place in Picture Butte, as well as the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge. A sincere thank-you to all the staff. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH, 4717 24th Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta, Pastor Ian Lawson and Pastor Ron Gartly officiating. 1927 – 2017
Homer Oudman, beloved husband of Betty Oudman, left for his heavenly home on Sunday, April 30, 2017, surrounded by his family, at the age of 90 years.

Besides his loving wife Betty, Homer is survived by their children Hetty (Ken) Ames of Brooks, Jack (Marion) Oudman of Edmonton, Patrice (Philippe) Maldiney of Calgary, Andy (Willetta) Oudman of Lethbridge, Wilbur (Sarah) Oudman of Burns Harbor, Indiana, Greg Oudman of Vancouver, British Columbia, Janice (Hart) Lemmle of Edmonton, Rob (Leslee) Oudman of Taber, BJ Oudman (Karen) of Calgary and Marsha Oudman of Lethbridge; seventeen grandchildren and twenty seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Tina (Tim) Bouwsema, in-laws Leny Oudman, Dirk (Marilyn) Alting, Albert Donkerbroek and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Homer was born February 27, 1927 to Jacob and Pieterje Oudman in Stitswerd, Groningen, The Netherlands. After serving in the Dutch Army in Indonesia, he immigrated to Taber in 1950. In 1953, he married Betty Aasman and they were married for almost sixty four years.
Homer was an active member of the First Christian Reformed Church, a great promoter of Christian education at all levels and of the Taber Special Needs Society. He farmed in Taber for forty years. His mixed farming experiences included sugar beet production, a foray into potatoes and many years raising cattle. Among his generous giving, supporting agriculture, whether it be Canadian Food Grains Bank or La Semilla Ministries, were some of his favourites. Homer had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel and experience new things. He was an outdoor man who never tired of Taber’s endless blue skies or the brilliant color of new flowers. Homer had a heart for loving and serving the seniors in his community and always prioritized time with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
