FICUR, Lino

July 19, 1933 – May 26, 2017

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lino Ficur on Friday, May 26th, 2017 with his wife and family by his side at the Chinook Regional Hospital, at the age of 83.

Lino was born in Isola D’Istria, Italy on July 19th, 1933. He immigrated to Canada in March of 1957. He is predeceased by his father, Francisci and his mother Mariae, brother Riccardo, brother-in-law Palmerino Iafrancesco, sister-in-law Antonietta Kern and nephew, Rob Kern.

He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 55 years, Angelina, his sister Iolanda Ficiur and two nieces Esperanza and Cinzia Ficiur in Italy, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Annina and Guiseppe Antonelli of Calgary, brother-in-law Joseph Kern of Lethbridge, nieces Lina, Marilena, Juliana and Dora – along with nephews Dave and Mike – and many friends he made throughout his life in Italy and here in Canada.

When Lino arrived in Canada, he began working in the sugar beet fields in Raymond and worked hard at several other jobs before working at the House of Lethbridge Brewery (Sick’s), and it was there that he truly enjoyed working for 15 years before retiring.

He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered for his strong work ethic, his ability to manufacture almost anything and his attention to detail! He was a generous man who shared many words of wisdom. He loved to tell stories and jokes – had a quick wit and a hearty laugh!

A Prayer Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME – 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Wednesday, May 31st, 2017 at 7:00 P.M.

A Funeral Mass will be held at ST. BASIL’S CATHOLIC CHURCH – 604 13th Street North, Lethbridge AB on Thursday, June 1st, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. with Father Lukas Drapal, Celebrant.

Following the Funeral Mass, Lino will be laid to rest in Mountain View Cemetery.

FORTIN

ROBERT “BOB” CHARLES FORTIN, beloved partner of Tabetha Renning.

Our Bob, the love of our lives left us at 5:35 a.m. on May 26, 2017 after a courageous battle against cancer at the age of 48, he passed away surrounded by his family.

Bob was born in Pointe Claire, Quebec on Oct. 17, 1968. He filled our lives with love & laughter and was known for his generous nature.

Bob’s family moved to Lethbridge in 1977 where he finished his school and went onto the auto body field. Later painting houses, he then moved to Vancouver, BC for 10 years. He came back to be closer to his family and started dating Tabetha.

Bob moved to Shaughnessy in 2007 and started working at Bridge Vault & Precast where he continued to work till he was no longer able.

Besides his loving partner Tabetha, Bob leaves to mourn his stepson Markus Renning, in-laws Shirley & Daryl Renning, their sons Todd and Troy.

Bob’s mother Joan Todd & step dad Ed Todd, older brother Michael “Mike” Fortin (Lynnette), younger sister Darlene “Bea” Dubois and her partner Andrew Delanghe, his much loved niece and nephew Elicia Fortin & Beau Fortin and his best little buddy/great nephew Kaidyn Fortin.

He will also be sadly missed by the entire Palmer family, Delanghe family and all who knew him.

He was predeceased by his step-dad for 17 years, Roger Dubois, his biological dad Yvon Fortin, maternal grandparents Bob & Agnes Stewart and paternal grandparents Charles & Marie Fortin.

HERASEMLUK

It is with a very saddened and heavy heart that we announce the passing of GEORGE HENRY HERASEMLUK beloved husband of Judy, of Lethbridge, AB., George passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side after a lengthy battle with cancer at St. Michael’s Palliative Care Unit, on Sunday, May 28, 2017, at the age of 69 years.

Besides his wife Judy, George is survived by his two brothers: Jerry (Kim) Herasemluk and Harry (Calani) Herasemluk, his mother Dusi Herasemluk as well as many aunts, nephews and cousins. George was predeceased by his father Henry Herasemluk, and uncles Terry McIntosh and John Shaskin. George was born in Wels, Austria on September 5, 1947. His family immigrated to Canada in 1950. George’s family worked in and around the farming community in Southern Alberta, before finally settling in Lethbridge. George attended schools in Lethbridge and after completing high school in 1969, he went on to work for Saskatchewan Power Corporation in Saskatoon, SK. After a few years there, he moved back to Lethbridge and began his career with Canadian Western Natural Gas Co. Ltd. During his 37 years of service George held various positions in the company. CWNG later became ATCO Gas and George retired in 2005 as a Supervisor of Operations in Lethbridge and district. He also started a landscaping business back in 1998 which he named George’s Bobcat Service Ltd., and that he continued to operate to this day. In 2002, George met the love of this life, Judy, and they married shortly after in 2003. Together, they lived on their acreage west of Coalhurst.

George was renowned for his love of gardening and he was known to be starting his tomato plants early every spring, which he loved to share with his family, friends, and neighbors. He loved to compete with other tomato growers to see who could grow the biggest, best tasting and most tomatoes.

He also loved to go fishing with his buddies Vito and Mike and was very competitive to see who could catch the first, the biggest and the most fish whenever they went out.

George was the go-to man in the neighborhood whenever anybody needed help with a project they were working on. He was also the first person in the community to offer a helping hand to anyone needing assistance. George will be greatly missed by his family and the members of his community. His absence will leave a huge gap and he will be dearly missed by all those who knew him and loved him.

A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME – 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. with Father Anton Ciobanu officiating.

A further Celebration of George’s Life will follow at the ITALIAN CANADIAN CLUB – 1511 St. Edward Blvd. N., Lethbridge, AB.

KERLUK

MATILDA “MATTIE” KERLUK, beloved wife of the late John Kerluk, of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Thursday, May 25th, 2017 at the age of 89 years.

Mattie was survived by her son Bill (Janette) Kerluk, and her grandchildren Katherine (Colin) and John. She also leaves to cherish her memory, two great-granddaughters Dylan and Auburn and her special friends Elsie and Betty.

Besides her husband of 41 years, John, Mattie was predeceased by her sister Elizabeth and brothers Joe (Everal) Horhozer and Chester (Darlene) Horhozer.

Mattie was born on July 7th, 1927 in Lethbridge, AB to Joe and Katie Horhozer. She was raised and educated in Lethbridge and started her working career with Frache’s Flowers at the young age of 17 years old. She continued in the flower business until her retirement.

Following her retirement she spent lots of time as a grandmother and great- grandmother, doting on all of her family’s needs. Matilda truly enjoyed her retirement years and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

A private family interment will be held at Mountain View Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers and in memory of Matilda donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Legacy Lodge for their continued care for Matilda throughout her stay.

HOWARD STEPHEN LEWIS, beloved husband of Bonnie Lewis, of Picture Butte, passed away at St. Michael’s Palliative Care Unit on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at the age of 83.

MARSHALL

After a brave battle with pancreatic cancer, BRIAN MARSHALL passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017 with his family by his side.

He was predeceased by his parents Jack & Gladys Marshall.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Lise, daughter Jennifer (Matt), grandchildren Ashley & Matthew; brothers Dick (Jo-Anne), Wayne (Linda) and Barry (Diane); sisters Sheila, Carol and Brenda (Don). Also left to mourn the loss of their Uncle Brian are numerous nieces and nephews, all who have fond memories of their time with him.

Last but certainly not least, he is very much missed by his beloved border collie, Lucy, who was never far from his side.

Brian will be remembered as not only a caring husband, father, and Poppy but as a true cowboy with a deep and passionate love of horses and an outstanding knowledge of equine pedigree and lineage. He was fortunate to build a career around that passion and as a result, developed long- lasting friendships along the way.

A Celebration of Brian’s Life will be held at a later date.
