BARNETT

MICHAEL “MICK” BARNETT, of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Dorothy Ann Barnett, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Monday, August 14th, 2017 at the age of 78 years.

Mick is the loving father of Jacquie (Wes) Rasmussen of Lethbridge, Kathy Thompson of Lethbridge, Susan Koma of Hinton, Jennifer Barnett (Chris Ross) of Lethbridge and Austin (Savannah) Barnett of Lethbridge. His memory is also cherished by his ten grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving Mick are his brothers Charlie (Judy) Barnett and John (Cecilia) Barnett as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his loving wife Dorothy, Mick was predeceased by his children, Tracy and Timothy Barnett, his son-in-law, Larry Koma and his parents Yvonne & Durward Barnett.

Mick farmed for years in Del Bonita and surrounding areas with his wife and children. He will be remembered as a kind and caring man with a generous heart. Mick will be missed among friends and family throughout.

A Prayer Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME – 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge AB. on Friday, August 18th, 2017 at 7:00 P.M. with Maureen Condon-Horon officiating.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH – 2405 – 12th Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB. on Saturday, August 19th, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. with Father Lukas Drapal celebrating.

Following the Funeral Mass, an Interment will be held at the Magrath Cemetery.

FODER

DONNIS FAYE FODER, beloved wife of the late John Andrew Foder, passed away peacefully at the age of 99 years.

She is lovingly remembered by her only son, Al (Alice) Foder; grandchildren, D’Arcy, Mark, Jeffrey, David (Fonda); great-grandchildren, Paris, Tori (Michael), Keaton, Keenan, Dalyce (Blake) and Bryce (Lauren) as well as great-great-grandson, Brooks.

Donnis was born in Medicine Hat on December 8, 1917, the only child born to Fay Demont and Lois (nee Thiel) Jackson; homesteader, businessman and Member of Parliament for the 40 Mile County. She was raised and graduated from private school in Medicine Hat.

We will continue to celebrate the life of “Grandma Donnis”. Her incredible personality and bright smile will never be forgotten.

“Grandma, we pray that you are in Heaven dancing with your beloved Johnny and watching over us. You have left us so many wonderful memories.”

Guido Emilio Nekich

1931 -2017

Mr. Guido Emilio Nekich of Lethbridge, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at the Chinook Regional Hospital at the age of 86 years.

He was the loving father of daughters Sonia (Phil) Nicas of Lethbridge, Laura (Charles) Crosse of Denver, Colorado and son Gary (Barb) and beloved grandson Alexander Nekich of Lethbridge.

Guido is also survived by 2 sisters-in-law as well as many nieces, nephews and their families.

He was predeceased by his father Santo; mother Giovanna; brothers Bruno, Giuseppe, Aldo and Reno; and grandson Michael.

Guido was born in Italy in 1931 and arrived in Canada in 1951. He worked at Purity Dairy and Palm Dairies for over 30 years.

Guido enjoyed golfing for several years and dancing at the Italian Canadian Club, which he continued until April 2017.

Cremation entrusted to Martin Brothers Funeral Chapels. A Private Family Graveside Service will be held in the Mountain View Cemetery.

John Heynen

1938 – 2017

Mr. John Heynen of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Alice Heynen, passed into the presence of his Lord on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the age of 78 years. John was predeceased by his parents Gerard and Grace; siblings Marijng, Joop, Klaas, and Cor Heynen; and his loving wife Alice Heynen. Left to mourn are his daughter Carol of Lethbridge, AB; son Christopher (Yael Greenfeld) and grandson Isaac of Squamish, BC; sister Lanie Olislager of Calgary, AB; brothers Gordon (Anna) Heynen of Cudworth, SK and Jack (Vangie) Heynen of Calgary, AB; sister-in-law Ursula Heynen of Whitehorse, YT; as well as many nieces and nephews. John was the second youngest of eight children, born in Hengelo, The Netherlands on November 15, 1938. At fourteen, he immigrated with his family to Canada where they settled in Lethbridge, AB. At nineteen, he moved with his parents to Whitehorse, YT to work at his brother, Klaas’ garage. It was there, on a riverboat cruise, that he met his wife, Alice. They married in 1965 and settled in Lethbridge, AB where John worked at Chinook Stationers in sales and servicing office equipment. In 1974, his daughter Carol was born, followed two years later by his son, Christopher. In 1983, John embarked on a new career as a life underwriter and financial advisor where he worked for 30 years until his retirement in 2013. John had many hobbies, his most passionate being birds. He began keeping pigeons as a child, but soon moved on to budgies, then canaries and finches. He taught himself to play guitar and sang in a quartet with his brothers, as well as performed in a number of bands around Whitehorse and Lethbridge before having children. He loved singing in church, gardening, painting watercolours, traveling, a good meal, and he loved to make people laugh. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Lethbridge since 1966 and was a devoted husband and father. An Interment will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the Mountain View Cemetery, 1210 Scenic Dr S, Lethbridge, Alberta. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, 1614 – 5 Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta, with Dr. Bruce Martin officiating.

Alex Koskewich

1926 – 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Father, Grandfather and Great-grandfather, Alex Koskewich on Monday, August 14, 2017 at the age of 91 years.

Alex married his beloved wife Florence on January 7, 1950. Together they raised their two sons, John and Darrel, on the family farm in Del Bonita. Alex continued to farm and was very active in the community. He was on the local school board for 25 years, president of the local Unifarm, and was very active with the local 4H Club. Everyone in Del Bonita knew Alex as a kind man and a friend, always willing to help.

Alex retired from farming and moved into Lethbridge in March of 2004. He resided at the Pemmican Lodge where he met many people who became his friends. You would see him attending all of the entertainment and activities at the Lodge, with camera in hand, taking pictures to share with everyone who lived there, whether they wanted to see them or not. He moved to Edith Cavell on March 1, 2017 after suffering a massive stroke and remained there until his passing.

Alex is survived by his son Darrel (Cindy), his grandson, Jeremy, his granddaughters, Tiffany (Lance), Jennifer (Matthew), Alexa and Katie. He is also survived by his sister, Vickie and sister-in-law, Verna. Alex had 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly and who will hopefully follow his example of kindness.

Alex was predeceased by his parents, John & Lena, wife Florence, brother George, brother-in-law Darrel Sommerfeldt and son John.

A Memorial Service for Alex will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, August 19th, 2017 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL 610 – 4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta. Interment to follow in Mountain View Cemetery, 1210 Scenic Drive South, Lethbridge, AB.

KRONLUND

ERIC WILLIAM “BILL” KRONLUND, beloved wife of the late Inga-Lil Kronlund, of Lethbridge, passed away at the Legacy Lodge on Tuesday, August 15th, 2017 at the age of 81 years.

He is the loving father of Laurel Lind Grbac of Langdon, AB., William Dean Kronlund of Kelowna, B.C., Robert Darren Kronlund of Monarch, AB., and James Anders Kronlund of Hamilton, ON. Bill’s memory will also be cherished by his seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He is also survived by his sisters Ester Knight, Lil Miltimore and longtime companion Jacqueline Hehr.

Besides his wife Inga-Lil, Bill was predeceased by his brother Roy Kronlund, James Albert Kronlund and Howard Kronlund.

MEHALKO

JOHN MEHALKO, beloved husband of Helen Mehalko passed away on Friday, August 11 at the age of 94.

He was born in Retlaw to George and Julia Mehalko on July 12, 1923. The fourth of five children, John was raised on the homestead family farm in the Sundial area and started working on the farm as a small boy while attending school. John continued farming until moving into Lethbridge, where he continued to trade cattle.

John married Helen Kundrik and they celebrated their 65th Anniversary this past June. John was the loving father of Joyce (Richard) Haney and Donna (John Colapinto) of New York. He has four grandchildren, Shaun (Tricia) Haney of Picture Butte, Kevin, Kerri Lynn (Bradley)Vanderberg, and Johnny Colapinto, and five great-grandchildren, Kalem, Rylynn, and Karsen Haney, and Damen and Kadence Vanderberg. He is also survived by sister-in-law Maxine Mehalko and many nieces and nephews.

John was hardworking and generous to his family and friends. Competitive in all aspects of his life, he played for the Sundial Baseball Team, curled, played horseshoes, and was an avid sportsman. He had a love for camping and traveling and was known for his meticulous attention to his motor homes and boats.

John is predeceased by his parents, his brothers George (Pat), Joe, sisters Regina and Margaret (Ralph) Bilton, niece Sherry Bilton, and great-grandson Branden Vanderberg.

The family would like to thank the caring staff of St. Michael’s Healthcare Centre where John resided for the past eight years.

Tony Camille Soenen

August 3, 1958 – August 14, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. Tony passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family on Monday, August 14, 2017 at the age of 59 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Tony was born in Taber, AB on August 3, 1958, the 6th of 10 children. He met the love of his life Linda in his late teens in a classic love at first sight tale, while she was waitressing at the Red Lion Restaurant and Disco. They were inseparable ever since August 19, 1978 and were married in July 1980. Soon after they welcomed 2 sons, Joseph and Shaun, who were their fathers pride and joy. Tony and Linda bought an acreage in Lethbridge County where they raised their family, established Park Lake Paintball and shared 37 wonderful years together on “the farm.” Tony spent 35 years working at Richardson Oilseed Ltd and had just retired in August 2015 to work full time with his wife at Park Lake Paintball. For those that knew Tony, knew he was a good ol’ Southern Alberta boy who loved to hunt, fish and shoot. He had an infectious smile and was full of one liners, he loved making people laugh and not too much could ever get him down. Tony is survived by his beloved wife and soulmate Linda (nee Wingerter), son Joseph (Deanndra), grandson Vadik, granddaughter Milajna, son Shaun (Simone) mother Donna Soenen, brothers Morris, Donald (Johanna), Ronald (Jocelyn), sisters Shirley Messmer, Audrey Ries, Barbara Soenen, Karen ((Blain) DesRoches, JoAnne Soenen, Donna Soenen, brothers in law Les (Val) Wingerter, Gerald (Pauline) Wingerter, sister in law Doris (Mike) Foster, and numerous nieces and nephews. Tony was predeceased by his father Joseph Soenen. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff on 3C and the Jack Ady Cancer Centre at Chinook Regional Hospital for showing Tony such kind and compassionate care in his last days.
