CYRUS (RUSS) RALPH BECHTEL was born in Lethbridge, AB 27 January 1936 and passed away 12 October, 2017 at the Raymond Hospital, Raymond, AB, at the age of 81 years. He is suvived by a sister, Jackie Greeno as well as a daughter, Kimberly Magill and many truly dear friends whom he considered to be family. He spent his earlier days in Travers, Wilson Siding and High River.. He worked in Ranching around the Pincher Creek area for several years. For many years he was a Trucker which he thoroughly enjoyed and a had a clean driving record. Russ had a quick wit, was a great story teller and was admired by all. He developed many friends at the Good Samaritans, Ridge View Lodge and Raymond Hospital. He was fiercely loyal to those he called friends. He will be greatly missed by all. The family would like to extend a very sincere thank-you to all of the dedicated and compassionate staff who helped with Russ. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday 28 October at 9:30 am at the Ridgeview Lodge, Raymond, AB 227 East 100 South Raymond AB


Dale Orr 1940 – 2017

Dale Orr, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away on October 19, 2017 in Poway, California. He was born April 4, 1940 in Ft. McLeod, Alberta, Canada to Amos & LaVon Orr. Dale worked as a banker in San Diego and Imperial counties for over 40 years. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings with the church, including Bishop, Stake Presidency Counselor, and Branch President. Additionally, he served honorable missions to South Africa, the Nauvoo Temple, and the Bishop’s Storehouse. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Peggy; sons and daughters-in-law Darin & Sandra Orr of Alpine, UT; Stephen & Janice Orr of Pickerington, OH; Michael & Kathy Orr of Riverside, CA; Matthew & Laura Orr of Laguna Niguel, CA; daughter and son-in-law Sara & Greg Doud of Poway, CA; sisters Nola Shurtz, Myrna Poitier, Wilma Smith (deceased) & Verda Perkinson all of Alberta, Canada; brothers Boyd Sillito of South Jordan, UT. and Lloyd Sillito of Calgary, Canada; and 16 grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, Oct. 25th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Poway, followed by the interment at Dearborn Memorial Park,


KOOY

SHIRLEY ANNE KOOY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 24th, 2017.

She was predeceased by her husband, Peter Kooy and one daughter, Tracey Kooy.

Shirley is survived by two sons, Kevin (Tanya) Kooy & Shannon (Laura) Kooy; one daughter, Karen (Bruce) Armstrong; four grandchildren, Amber Kooy, Jayden Kooy, Kelsey Armstrong & Rhiannon Kooy; two brothers, Richard Service and Daniel (Gloria) Service; and one sister, Patricia Ewing.

Shirley, “Momma Bear” and “GMA” loved to play horseshoes, curling and bowling. Her love of life and people touched the lives of all those who knew her. She truly accomplished much in her life including raising four children and always had time for her hobbies and crafts, like building doll houses and creating several paper tole pictures. She was a compassionate, thoughtful and honorable woman who loved her family and friends.

In memory of Shirley, please make a contribution to a local sporting club or charity.

S hirley will be laid to rest with her husband during a Private Graveside service. Family and friends are welcome to the home of Shannon and Laura Kooy on Saturday afternoon (October 28th) anytime after 1:00 P.M.

Rose Roest

1922 – 2017

Mrs. Rose Roest, beloved wife of the late Paul Roest, passed away peacefully at Chinook Regional Hospital on Friday October 20, 2017 at the age of 95 years. Rose is survived by her children Connie (John) Faassen, Daisy Moody, John (Heather) Roest and Paul Roest (Linda Santrau). She is also survived by her grandchildren Debbie (Terry), Lisa (Troy), Dan (Susan), Shelley (James), Shane (Allison), Stacy (Billie), Shantel (Chad) and their mother Irene, Dean (Chanda), Darrin (Julie), Dave (Lauren), Chad (Gord), Kyle (Ashley) and their mother Jennifer; as well as Joy; and great-grandchildren Josh, Tyler, Sydney, Connor, Madison, Jaxson, Myles, Cohen, Derian, Kianna, Miranda, Olivia, Erick, Jillian, Austin, Graci, Leslie, Aidan, Killian, Avery, Donovan, Davin, Nathan, Khol, and Aleigha; as well as her best friend Charmie. Rose was predeceased by her husband Paul Roest; son Dick Roest; and son-in-law David Moody. Rose was born August 19, 1922 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and immigrated to Canada in 1952 with her husband and 3 young children. Once in Canada, 2 more children were born, and they built a new life in the Lethbridge area. Rose had many different jobs over the years, but the one she most fondly remembered was her time spent in the kitchen at Perlich Brothers Auction Mart, where many meals were enjoyed, and lifelong friendships were made. She also enjoyed being part of the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church community for many years. Lasting memories were made during gatherings at the family farm. Oma’s cooking, sense of humor and courage will always be remembered. Rose had a zest for life, living her 95 years to the fullest as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend she will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Thank you to Legacy Lodge, Dr A. Low and staff at Chinook Regional Hospital 4A for the care and compassion shown to Rose and family during this final chapter of her life. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at ST. ANDREWS PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 1818 – 5th Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, with Reverend Hugh Jack officiating. Veronica “Vernie” Bruder 1927 – 2017

Veronica “Vernie” Kathryn Bruder, beloved wife of the late Joseph William Bruder, passed away on October 21, 2017 at the age of 90 years. Vernie is survived by her children: Ronald (Rhonda), Carol, Jane (Walter Schauerte), Eric (Olga), Blaise (Linda), son-in-law Dennis Carney (Ann), Myron (Evelyn), David (Bev), Rhona Bartolotti, daughter-in-law Janet Bruder (Steve), James (Lynn), Paul (Chris), Carlos (Glenda), Steven, Tony (Lorraine), forty-eight grandchildren, seventy-one great grandchildren (soon to be seventy-two), and four sisters-in-law Rosalie Leveque, Agatha McRae, Frieda Bruder, and Frances Bruder. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Anton and Julia Bonertz, her husband Joseph, son Kevin, daughter Angela, daughter-in-law Tracey and granddaughter-in-law Jennifer. Vernie had great love and pride in her family and took great joy in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was always willing to help anybody and with anything. She lived her faith through the love and care she showed to all she came in contact with. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Michael’s Catholic Church (958 Christie Avenue, Pincher Creek) on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 7:00pm. FELITO VISAYA, beloved husband of Emelia of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on October 22, 2017 at the age of 78 years. He is the loving father of Emilito (Digna) of Lethbridge, Enrico (Liza) of Philippines, Carmencita (Damaso) of Philippines and Catherine (Jhon) of Lethbridge. He is also survived by six grandchildren, one great grandchild, one brother and two sisters. Felito was predeceased by his parents, one brother and one sister. Vigil Rites will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Christensen Salmon Generations Funeral Home, 703 – 13 Street North, Lethbridge. A Funeral Mass will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017 at St. Basil’s Catholic Church, 604 – 13 Street North, Lethbridge with Father Lukas Drapal, Celebrant.

VREDEGOOR

BERNARDUS “BEN” JOHANNES ANTONIUS VREDEGOOR, of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Monday, October 23, 2017 at the age of 83 years.

Ben is survived by brothers, Gary, Everett (Anna Marie), Hank (Agnes); sisters, Marie, Henny, Ann (Conrad) and Lena (Henry); sister-in-law Dora; stepchildren Frank and Peggy; grandchildren, Jillian Szing, Nicole and Tyler Letkeman as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Ben was predeceased by his parents, Antonius and Gerada; brothers, Father Sylvester, Mike and Martin; sisters, Gerada Vredegoor and Dinni Berns; sister-in-law, Mary Vredegoor and his brothers-in-law, Ted Berns and Tony Raats.

Ben was born on September 17, 1934 in Drempt, Holland, son of Antonius and Gerada. He immigrated to Canada with his family on April 4, 1953. He worked as a farm hand in Cantur, SK, for two years, as well as for the CP Rail in Saskatchewan and Toronto for three years until April, 1956.

Ben’s occupation was a ticketed tradesman in stucco and plastering. He worked in Calgary, from 1957 until he moved to Lethbridge in 1974. In 1975, he formed a partnership, until 1980 when he started his own company, V & R Stucco Ltd. that he worked until his retirement in December 1999.

Ben enjoyed meeting people, working with the Four H Club, coaching hockey or teaching someone new skills. He was an instigator of a good water fight, joking, teasing or talking, fishing, skiing, camping, gardening, growing flowers, traveling or reminiscing old times and spending time with his grandchildren.

A Prayer Service will be held to celebrate Ben’s life at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 1:30 P.M. with Deacon Frank Peta officiating. Ben will be laid to rest at Mountain View Cemetery. Following the Interment, relatives and friends are invited to further share this day at Cornerstone Funeral Home.
