Blimkie, Herbert August

August 14, 1927 – November 2, 2017

It is with extreme sadness that we announce that our father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, Herbert (Bert) August Blimkie passed away peacefully on November 2nd at the Edith Cavell care centre in Lethbridge at the age of 90 years. Born in Grande Prairie, Alberta, where he lived until the age of 27, then moved to the village of Carmangay in southern Alberta to buy grain for the Alberta Wheat Pool where he met a young lady, Ann Anderson from the nearby town of Champion. They would marry in 1956 and go on to raise 4 sons. Dad was predeceased by his parents, wife Ann in 1993 and son Norm in 2010. He is survived by his dear sister, Ann MacKenzie and brother, Rob (Delores), sons, Brad, Ken (Vienna), and John (Cara), granddaughters Brynn, Jen, Taylor, and Claire, great grandsons Callum, Liam and Euan and numerous nieces and nephews. Dad worked for the Alberta Wheat Pool for 35 years and retired in 1987. One of Dad’s passions was his membership in the Masonic Lodge where he made lifelong friends in the fraternity, frequently travelling to other lodges in Alberta as well as the Masonic Lodge in Aberdeen Scotland. Golf was forefront when he retired, playing daily at the Picture Butte Golf Club where he was a member. Dad also travelled to the home of golf in St. Andrews Scotland, a memory he cherished and often talked about. Dad will be missed by all.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Edith Cavell Care Centre and the Heritage Lodge for the compassionate care they provided.

Honouring Dad’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A private family tribute will be held at a later date.

GORHAM

MADISON ELIZABETH GORHAM passed away in Edmonton, AB on November 5, 2017 at the age of 19 months. She is survived by her parents Zach and Megan Gorham; grandparents Peter and Colleen Drew, and B.J. Gorham; and aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was predeceased by her grandpa Berry Gorham.

Madison was a light to all those around her. Despite her short time on earth she had a far-reaching impact on many people for good. She had a radiant smile, an infectious laugh and a hilarious sense of humor. She had a great interest in people and would smile, wave, and say “hi” to almost everyone she saw. She had a way of drawing people in and wrapping them around her little finger. She went through immense health challenges that involved a great deal of pain and discomfort with grace, cheerfulness, and great bravery. She was a tenacious fighter and her resilience was awe-inspiring. She loved music, pens, water bottles, bath time, ripping up kleenex, and Peppa Pig. Words cannot describe the void she has left behind in her absence, nor the degree to which she is missed. We take comfort in the knowledge that she is with her Grandpa Berry in a much better world than this and that we will be with them again someday. We wish to thank all the doctors, nurses, and other staff at the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton and the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary for their remarkable work with Madison.

The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Magrath Stake Center, Magrath, AB on Monday, November 13th, at 11:00 a.m.

Friends may meet the family from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment to follow in the Spring Coulee Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers please donate to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation and consider becoming an organ donor.
