Christina Stewart

September 27th 1921 –

December 20th 2017

Christina went to be with the Lord, leaving behind a family that adored her. She is survived by one sister Alice (Stan) Warnock of Penticton; five of her six children: Rosemary, Margaret Jane (George) Ney, Ken (Jane), David (Elizabeth and Rob (Karen). She was predeceased by her husband Ray, and her youngest son, Bruce (Liz). She leaves behind twenty two grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren.

Christina was born in Peterhead Scotland, to James and Mary Alice Gowans. At the age of two, they, along with extended family, immigrated to Canada. She married John Ray Stewart in 1944, while he served with the Canadian Intelligence Corp in the war effort.

After the war, Chris and Ray settled in White Rock, where Ray resumed his teaching career. She and Ray were one of the founding families of the White Rock Evangelical Free Church. Christina began work from home as a columnist with the White Rock Sun and a variety of other newspapers. Later, as they moved to Lethbridge, Alberta, when Ray became a professor at the University of Lethbridge, she became a feature story writer with the Lethbridge Herald, writing a column named, “People of the South.” She also became a realtor, attaining frequent recognition as top saleswoman in southern Alberta.

Upon Ray’s retirement from University of Lethbridge, Ray and Chris built a cottage on Mayne Island, as a place for their growing family to gather in the summers for reunions.

Chris was the life and heart of the family home. Her passion was to live for others, and she was known for her great hospitality to all. Her godly example was played out daily through her kindness.

An extraordinary life lived for ninety-six years, she will be missed dearly by her family and by many who knew her.

A celebration of her life will be held at North Delta Evangelical Free Church. 11300 84 Ave. Delta BC, at 1:00 PM, Friday, January 5. DELAINEY

1951 – 2017

It is with deep sadness that we announce the loss of our beloved ELLEN (née Hoenig) DELAINEY on Thursday, December 28, 2017.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband Fred; his sons Marc and Adam and their families; Ellen’s sister Carol Hunkel and her children, Lori, David and Scott and their families, all from the Milwaukee, WI area; as well as brothers-in-law, John (Geraldine), Bill (Deb), Dennis (Sylvia), Bob (Donna), Brian (Janet) and Neil (Rita) and their families.

Ellen was predeceased by her parents Raymond and Jeannette Hoenig and her little brother Lee.

Ellen retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sgt. and continued her skills as a bookkeeper with Berreth-Smith & Associates of Spokane, WA. She retired from there and soon married Fred in 2012. They made Coaldale, Alberta their home where she truly enjoyed her flower gardens and the trips her and Fred took before her illness.

Ellen’s family would like to thank all those who lovingly showed care to her in her hour of need: Coaldale Homecare, Jack Ady Centre, Chinook Regional Hospital, St. Michael’s Palliative Care and Cornerstone Funeral Home.

Ellen will be sadly missed and forever remembered.

Mrs. Diane Carol Healy (Siitokksiktakaikii), beloved wife of Mr. Del Healy, passed away at Chinook Regional Hospital on Monday, December 25, 2017 at the age of 68 years. Dad was born on February 7, 1931 in the Netherlands. He immigrated to Canada in 1968. KUBIK

JOSEPHINE “JOSIE” KUBIK, the beloved wife of the late Emil Kubik, formerly of Picture Butte and the Blackrock Lodge in Lethbridge, passed away peacefully with family by her side at the Fort Macleod Extendicare on Thursday, December 21st, 2017 at the age of 96 years.

Josie is survived by her children: Vikki Scott, Geri Rempel (Mike deScossa), Emily (Wayne) Gryschuk and David (Lorri) Kubik; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She is also survived by her sisters Mary Sekrijer and Angie (Henry) Schildwachter; and brothers Victor Hornak and John (Terry) Hornach, along with many nieces, nephews, and their extended families.

She was predeceased by her parents, brother Joseph, husband Emil and son Edward and daughter-in-law Joanne Kubik.

Josie was born February 28, 1921, in Rovensko, Czechoslovakia to Mary and Joseph Hornak. She immigrated to Canada along with her younger brother and sister in 1938 to join the rest of her family who had settled in the Iron Springs area. There she met her future husband Emil and they were married January 5, 1939. They shared 63 years on the farm west of Picture Butte and then their home in town prior to Emil’s passing in 2002.

Josie was an avid gardener and was especially proud of her prize-winning roses. She was the happiest when surrounded by her family and she loved to bake and cook for them. In 2007, Josie took full retirement and moved to the Blackrock Lodge in Lethbridge where she enjoyed ten wonderful years with ‘her beautiful people’. Josie was a ray of sunshine and her love of life and people touched the lives of all those who knew her. Josie was a compassionate, thoughtful and honorable woman who was full of life and laughter and very quick witted.

A Prayer Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 – Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, on Wednesday, January 3rd, 2018 at 7:00 P.M.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. CATHERINES CATHOLIC CHURCH, 762 – Crescent Avenue North, Picture Butte, on Thursday, January 4th at 11:00 A.M., with Father Ian Gagne, Celebrant. A reception will follow. Interment will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Lethbridge after the reception.

Marlene “Marty” Lehto

1948 – 2017

Ms. Marlene “Marty” Lehto nee Kliensasser of Coaldale, passed away after a lengthy illness at the St. Michael’s Palliative Care Centre, December 21, 2017 at the age of 69 years. “She died with her boots on!!” Marty was born in Lethbridge and grew up in the Barhill area in southern Alberta. She attended Barhill school and later Alberta Beauty School in Lethbridge. She opened her first beauty shop in Milk River in her teenage years and later opened up Style Seekers in the Pass with her friend Carol McGuire. She added bus driver to her resume and enjoyed the company of the students on her bus. Marty loved everything horse and outdoor related. She was involved in many community events and volunteered with many organizations. She took part in 4-H, riding clubs, parades, Rum Runner Days (riding in the Pony Express) and skiing. She also volunteered for all of the events and clubs mentioned as well as Scouts, Girl Guides, and anything else her children or grandchildren were involved in. She enjoyed dancing throughout her lifetime and went dancing whenever she could. Marty is survived by her brother Marvin Lehto; ex-husband William Kliensasser; children Derek (Petra) Friesen, Lolita (Bruce) Webber, Todd (Carolina) Kliensasser; grandchildren: Stephanie (Philipp) Koller, Colton Friesen, Shawn (Tabetha) Webber, Jessica Kaprowski, Karine Kliensasser, Jose Carlos, Angel and William Kliensasser; as well as her great-grandchildren: Roslin and Ada Kaprowski and Acelyn Lerocque. Marty was predeceased by her parents Margaret Lehto nee: Krisher and Ralph Lehto. A. EARL OSTERBERG, of Lethbridge, passed away with his family at his side on Tuesday, December 26th, 2017 at the age of 77 years.

Earl was predeceased by his parents, Louis & Mary Osterberg, one sister, Wava Smith, and his devoted wife of 37 years Edna.

He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Sandra; one son, Ron of Lethbridge, daughters, Linda Osterberg of Calgary and Donna (Steve) Derowin of Victoria, B.C.; one grandson, Jordie Angus of Lethbridge; one brother, Brian (Ann) of Sherwood Park, Alta.

Earl treasured all of his friends, believing each one was special. Earl had a unique gift of making friends with everyone he met. He will be especially missed by his coffee buddies at Tim’s on Scenic Drive. His love of life and people touched the lives of all those who knew him. He will be missed!

He was a proud owner and operator of Earl’s Construction for 26 years. He had a unique sense of humor and loved to tease. Earl loved skiing, snowmobiling, and camping with his family and friends. He was very involved with his children’s sports and other activities, even building a model Volkswagen for his daughter Linda. He had many fun times and memories of traveling to Hawaii, Bali, Cuba, Spain, and enjoyed many cross-country RV trips throughout North America. His last trip was to visit his daughter Donna and son-in-law Steve in Victoria, B.C.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 – Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, on Saturday, December 30th at 1:00 P.M., with Pastor Harold Cooper officiating. It is with deepest sorrows that our mother, ALICE LOUISE SIBBET, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital, on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at the age of 78 years.

Alice is survived by her children: Kathy (Kerry) Ditchburn, Gerri (Kevin) Greggains, Marge (Ruebun) Weibe, Robert (Lori) Sibbet, Sheryl (Ken) Friesen, Scott (Laurine) Sibbet as well as 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Alice was born in Nelson, B.C., on October 12, 1939, where she was raised. On October 12, 1957, she married Robert “Bob” Sibbet, and they moved to Edmonton, where Robert was employed by the City of Edmonton. In the mid ’70’s, Alice, along with Bob, helped manage the Silver Sage Motel, where Alice cleaned rooms and did regular housekeeping at the motel and managed the rooms. They eventually settled in Lethbridge in the late ’80’s, where she resided at the Heritage Lodge until her passing.

VANDE LIGT

FRANK VANDE LIGT, beloved husband of Toni Vande Ligt, of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at the age of 85 years.

Besides his loving wife of 60 years, he is survived by his children Bill (Carolann), Art, Pat (Mark) Flexhaug, Karen (Frank) Blote, Arlene (Hector) Arroyo, and Diane (Dick) Smit as well as 20 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Frank is also survived by Toni’s family, Bill & Myrna Tymensen, Annie Golsteyn, Nellie Peppin, Elaine VandenBerg, Art VandenBerg, and John & Faye VandenBerg as well as many nieces and nephews.

Frank was predeceased by his infant daughter Maureen, parents Wilhelmus & Petronella Vande Ligt, four sisters, ten brothers, mother and father-in-law Aart & Hendrika VandenBerg, nine sisters-in-law and nine brothers-in-law.

Frank was born on Feb. 2, 1932 in Wanroj, Netherlands. In 1952, at the young age of 20, he immigrated to Canada where he met and married Toni. They settled in Lethbridge and raised a family. Frank had a great love for his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Prayer Service will be held at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 – 12 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 7:00 P.M. with Deacon Frank Peta officiating.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. with Father Kevin Tumback celebrating.

HARRY NEIL WRIGHT, of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Ellen Wright of 63 years, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at the age of 85 years.

Besides his loving wife Ellen, Harry is survived by his children: Monte (Verna) Wright, Terry (Rod) Barnett and Brian (Patti) Wright; grandchildren: Lindsey and Jeff (Ashley) Wright, Jordan and Tiffany Barnett, Kelsey (Corey) Pohl, Brad (Robbyn) Wright, Rob (Grace) Wright and Tyler (Michele) Wright as well as three very special great-grandchildren: Rowen, Weston and Oakley.

Harry was a kind, compassionate man, whose family was his pride and joy. He was a hard working man with strong morals and ethics, and was a consummate gentleman, fiercely protective of his family and once you were a friend, you were a friend for life.

In his younger years, along with his brothers, they were the definition of “Cowboys”. Right until his passing, he always donned his cowboy hat and western buckle on his belt.

He leaves behind a legacy of commitment to marriage and the knowledge that his loving family will remain strong and supportive.
