BATTEY
GAIL LINDA BATTEY (née Noble) beloved wife of Paul Battey, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the age of 63 years.
Besides her loving husband Paul, Gail is survived by her children Melissa Battey, Vanessa McDowell (Kyle) and Matthew Battey; her grandchildren Skyler, Liam, Gavin and Kailee; her twin brother Gordon Noble (Hazel); her sisters-in-law Diane Panting (Garth), Linda Kirton (Bruce) and Lorna Pyrih (Dr. Lawrence Pyrih), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Lloyd and Shirley Noble and by her first husband Leonard Hall.
Gail was born July 7, 1954 in Winnipeg, MB. In her early years, she enjoyed playing softball and bowling. Before she started a family, she worked at the Winnipeg Clinic in the Records Department. As she grew older, she developed a love for baking, cooking and spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. She also enjoyed playing bingo and going shopping. Once her children were older, she volunteered at the Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg. Gail moved to Lethbridge in 2013 to be closer to her grandchildren. She was an animal lover and truly adored caring for her many pets over the years.
A Celebration of Gail’s Life will take place in Winnipeg, MB in the Spring of 2018.
Gail’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Dr. Wong and the staff at dialysis, as well as the staff on 3C at the Chinook Regional Hospital.

1978-2018
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden death of our cherished son and brother Ben on February 16, 2018. Ben was born on September 21, 1978 in Lincoln, New Zealand. He lived in Urbana Champaign (IL), Palmerston North (NZ), Mexico, Lacombe (AB), Madison (WI), Lethbridge (AB), Kelowna (BC), and Saskatoon (SK). Ben loved Lego as a boy. He loved to build things. The biggest building set for him was the computer. It became his lifelong passion. It wasn’t about games; he loved the creative free play. Ben became a software developer after graduating from the University of Lethbridge in Computer Science.
Ben is survived by his parents, Alison and Peter Burnett; sister Anne, brother Sam (Maureen) and children Miriam and Penny. In addition, Ben’s aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, friends, and colleagues from Winnipeg, Toronto, Lethbridge, Vernon, Saskatoon, Australia, New Zealand, England, and Taiwan mourn his loss.

ISOBEL FLORENCE FOWLER, beloved wife of Arthur Fowler, passed away at St. Michael’s Health Centre on Friday, February 23rd, 2018 at the age of 81 years after a brief yet courageous battle with cancer. She was born January 26, 1937 to Charles and Leona Fowler in Arcola, SK during a winter snowstorm. Isobel is survived by her husband Arthur Fowler; her children Wendy Nelson (Keith Burgess), David Nelson (Susan), Gary Nelson (Marieta) and stepson Jacob Fowler (Amanda), as well as her grandchildren Tyler (Kaeley), Matthew, Jonathan (Samara), Jennifer, Christopher, Jacob, Colby and Noah, and her special great-grandchild Cassius.Isobel’s passion was her grandchildren. She enjoyed having them with her during summer vacations and spent as many holidays with them as she could. Isobel and her granddaughter Jennifer learned to quilt together and spent numerous hours doing so. They also learned how to make cards and spent time together creating cards for all occasions. She was a true horse woman. As a small child, she rode her horse Jessie to and from school, and as she grew older, won many ribbons and trophies in various showings with other horses she owned. Her children joined in showing horses and she supported their involvement with the 4-H and other horse clubs. Isobel was a very spiritual person and she made God a big part of her life. Shortly after moving to Lethbridge, she and her coffee friends regularly attended Park Meadows Baptist Church. Her coffee friends also meant a lot to her and she truly cherished the relationship they had over the past three years.A Celebration of Isobel’s life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME – 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Monday, March 5, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Lorne Willms officiating. Family and friends celebrate the life of MARIN JOELLE FIRST RIDER born in Lethbridge Feb 28, 1986 until her journey home on Feb 28, 2018. Marin was taken from us before she had a chance to blossom into her true potential.
She will always be remembered for her unmistakable laugh, humour and her incredibly giving spirit. Marin cherished life, family, her friends and would do anything to help anyone in need.
Marin graduated from Kainai High School in 2005, where she played volleyball and basketball. Marin’s teammates remember how her tall frame gave her a strong advantage and not to mention her ‘killer serve’. She travelled to Winnipeg Manitoba to participate in the North American Indigenous Games in July 2002. One of her fondest memories was having the opportunity to play in a football scrimmage against the teaching staff, a memory she would giggle about years later.
Marin would be blessed with the title ‘Mom’ to two beautiful children, Dakayda and Connor whom she shared with Edmond Jr. a role that she would be most proud to be remembered by.
Marin was also known for her love of the entire feline species, aspiring future paranormal investigator, loud music, concerts and of course her beloved Pittsburgh Penguins! Marin’s unforgettable kindness and gentle spirit gained her immense wealth in friendships and all who knew her, loved her. Marin provided the best security ‘bar none’ for the Kainai Indian Day Celebrations for the past three years. Marin also enjoyed her time with the staff during her employment at the Kainai Food Market in the deli/bakery department. When you think of Marin, please remember her love of life, and her love of those she welcomed along to share her journey. Celebrate and remember her in your memories, and live as she did….to the fullest!

DENISE MARIE-JEANNE MACDONALD, beloved wife of the late Leo Theodore Macdonald, passed away at the Carewest – George Boyack Facility in Calgary on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the age of 82 years.
Denise is survived by her daughter, Belinda (Paul) Langridge of Coquitlam, BC; her son, Ron (Maureen) Macdonald of Calgary, AB; her grandchildren, Tara, Kayla and Riley; her great-granddaughter Nevaeh, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Marla Judd passed away suddenly on Friday, February 23, 2018 at the young age of 43. Marla was born October 11th, 1974 in Fort Vermillion, Alberta, the youngest of 18 children.
She was a kind gentle soul who enjoyed reading, suduko, BBQing, camping and the adventure of life.

Ronald “Ron” McKenzie
1950 – 2018
Mr. Ronald “Ron” McKenzie of Warner, beloved husband of Mrs. Joan McKenzie, passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the age of 67 years. Ron was born in Lethbridge, Alberta to parents Dale and Irma McKenzie, and attended Warner School. As a young man, he worked seismic up North in the winters, and would farm with his dad and brothers on the family farm in Warner during the summers; eventually he would come to the farm full time. He farmed with his dad Dale and brother Cam for a number of years and eventually transitioned to farming with just his son Mike. Ron was an active member of the community and was involved in Elks, Warner Curling Club, 4-H, Warner West Water Coop Board, and travelling the world with friends and family.
Ron and Joan were married in 1981. Mike was born in 1982 – he and Ron share the same birthday; and Carmen was born in 1984. He loved farming and truly loved anything and everything he did with his family. Family and friends were his life, the light of his life and his best role was being a Papa to Avery, Jayce and Blake. Besides his loving wife Joan, Ron is survived by his son Mike (Kyleen) McKenzie and their daughters Avery Dale and Blake Scarlett; and his daughter Carmen Dawn (Trevor) Antal and their son Jayce Dean. Also left to mourn are his sister Karen McKenzie, and brothers Jerry (Wilma) McKenzie, Cam (Diane) McKenzie, and Wade McKenzie. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the WARNER CIVIC CENTRE, 508-4 Avenue, Warner, AB, with Pastor Brian Magee officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. DEANA JOHNSON SIMINGTON was born December 12, 1926 and passed away February 21, 2018 at Chinook Regional Hospital following a stroke.
She is survived by her seven children: Anita Nicholas, Catherine (George) Yamada, Rita (Dwaine) Law, Brad Nicholas, Janet (Richard) Barker, James (Maria) Nicholas, and Shari Day. She found great joy in her 23 grandchildren (one deceased) and 34 great grandchildren. Also surviving Deana is her sister Jolayne (Bud) Alexander.
Deana was buried February 24, 2018 in Barnwell, Alberta, where she was born and spent her childhood. In accordance with her wishes a private funeral has been held.
The family is grateful for the friendship and kind care of the staff of Good Samaritan Park Meadows Village in Lethbridge, the angel nurses at Chinook Regional Hospital ICU, and Nicolas and Max Salmon at Salmon and Sons Funeral Home who assisted with funeral arrangements in a caring, compassionate, respectful, and professional manner.

Timothy “Tim” Mueller
1989- 2018
Mr. Timothy “Tim” Mueller of Warner, beloved only son of Carson & Estelle Mueller, passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the age of 28 years. Tim was born November 3, 1989 in Lethbridge, AB. He attended school in Warner, then traveled to Australia and New Zealand with his best friend Clint Kaupp, returning to work on the family farm and Triple W Gas Co-op. Tim had a larger than life personality and lived every day to the fullest, making life long friends wherever he went. He could put a smile on anyone’s face just by entering the room. Tim loved farming, spending time at the family cabin in Tie Lake, BC and boating with his brother-in-law Shaun and his many friends. He also enjoyed playing hockey, curling, baseball, and traveling to professional sporting events. Tim was a member of the Warner Volunteer Fire Department, Curling Club, Rockets Men’s Hockey Team and baseball pools. Tim will forever be remembered for his big heart, love of family and friends and love of life in general. He will be deeply missed. Besides his loving parents, Tim is survived by his cherished sister and brother-in-law Brianne and Shaun Hutchinson; much adored nephew Jack Hutchinson; grandpa George Mueller; girlfriend Mariah Hierath; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and their families. LAUREN RUTH SMITH passed away February 26, 2018 in Lethbridge, AB from complications related to her Cystic Fibrosis. She is survived by her parents Rock and Shauna Smith; brothers Tyrel, Clayton, and Matt; sister in laws Sydnee and Bailey; one nephew Tell; and one neice Bo; also by grandparents Bill and Ruth Nalder of Raymond and Frank Smith of Cardston. Lauren was born September 21, 1990 in Raymond Alberta and was raised the first 10 years of her life on ranches near Carway and the balance on a ranch close to Mountain View. After receiving a double lung transplant when she was 18 years old, Lauren finished her schooling and became accredited as an Optometrist Assistant. She worked several years at the Eye Appeal Clinic in West Lethbridge. She was adept scholastically and had many friends. Lauren was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who attended to Lauren during her illnesses and her friends and family for their love and support.
