Pandas win at home over Coyotes

The Magrath Pandas posted their second win of the year during Southern Alberta High School Basketball League play Wednesday night.

Lauren Payne hit for 22 points as the Pandas defeated the Chinook Coyotes in Magrath.

Magrath held a 25-22 lead at the half and are now 2-1 on the season.

Jenna Taylor also hit double digits for the Pandas, scoring 10 points in Wednesday’s win.

For the Coyotes, Charlize Baron led the way with 20 points.

The Pandas won the junior varsity game 76-28.

Pacing the Pandas was Montana Berezay and MIranda Strate with 12 points each, while Tiffani Winchester had 11.

Payton Viney had 18 points for the Coyotes.

In Taber, the W.R. Myers Rebels edged the Raymond Comets 71-70.

Millay Johnson led Taber with 24 points, while Kit Sparks had 18.

Natalie Hoyt and Austin Robbins had 14 and 10 points, respectively, for the Rebels.

Dez Jensen had 29 points for the Comets.

In the junior varsity game, the Rebels won 55-45 as Dani Wright and Robbins each had 12 points and Sophie Simek hit for 10.

In Cardston, the Cougars earned an 84-26 win over the Winston Churchill Griffins.

Erika Smith and Kaitlyn Pierson each had 18 points for Cardston and Annie Soper struck for 17.

Haylie Holland chipped in with 11 points for the Cougars.

For the Bulldogs, Shelby Needham had 12 points.

The Cougars won the junior varsity game 65-16 as Hanna Nunn led the way with 15 points. Marin Williams and Madison Leishman each had 14 points for Cardston and Tenley Schaffer had 10.

Hailey Mueller had six points for Winston Churchill.

In Medicine Hat, the Kwahommies topped the Catholic Central Cougars 76-60.

Ellie Kabayama led Catholic Central with 24 points and Gracie Boser put up 10.

The Cougars won the junior varsity game 57-51 as Ashley Sazalski led the way for Catholic Centreal with 19 points.

Also hitting double digits for the Cougars was Madeline Vanden Elzen with 12 points.
