Rebels strike silver in Medicine Hat

The 1A, 2A and 3A boys and girls Alberta Schools Athletic Association basketball provincial championships wrapped up around Alberta on Saturday.

At the 3A girls provincials in Medicine Hat, the Taber W.R. Myers Rebels advanced to the gold medal game, but came away with the silver medal following a 46-41 loss to Medicine Hat Monsignor McCoy High.

The Rebels defeated the Magrath Zeniths 61-45 in the semifinals Friday night to advance to the championship game.

In the bronze medal game, the Zeniths were edged 65-63 by Wetaskiwin Composite.

In the 1A girls final in Bawlf, the Stirling Lakers were in the gold medal game against Parkland Immanuel Christian, while the Milk River Erle Rivers Novas beat Rosemary 62-51 in the consolation final.

Another local team was in a gold medal game Saturday night as the Immanuel Christian Eagles girls team advanced to the final against La Crete Public School at the 2A playdowns in Three Hills.

At the 1A boys provincials at Rundle College in Calgary, the South Zone representatives Pincher Creek St. Michaels Dragons and Lundbrek Livingstone Sabres were in the bronze medal game Saturday afternoon.
