The Lethbridge Pronghorn women’s rugby team finished sixth at the Canadian University Sevens Championships in Langley.
The Horns advanced to the fifth-place game, but were defeated 24-17 by the Calgary Dinos Saturday.
The Pronghorns opened Saturday with a 19-5 loss to the McMaster Marauders in the first of four women’s quarter-finals.
The Marauders also beat the Pronghorns in the final round-robin game on Friday.
Hannah Lopez scored the lone Pronghorn try.
The loss put the Pronghorns out of medal contention, but the team came back with a a 26-19 win over the Guelph Gryphons in the fifth place semifinal to set up the game against the Dinos.
In the win over the Gryphons, Lopez scored one try and kicked two converts to pace the Pronghorns, while Hailey Driscoll, Sydney De La Mare and Caitlin Sears each scored tries. Sears also hit one convert.
In the fifth place game, Omobolaji Olayioye, Lopez and Driscoll each scored a try in the loss, while Sears hit the only convert.
The Pronghorns will host a sevens exhibition tournament March 31 and April 1, to officially close the spring sevens schedule.
A tournament schedule will be released in the near future.
