The Univeristy of Lethbridge Pronghorns women’s rugby team has added another player to its roster in anticipation of the 2017 Canada West season.
On Thursday, the Horns announced the the commitment of Calgary product Charlie Mitchell.
A front row forward, Mitchell comes to the Pronghorns from William Aberhart High School, having played both 15s and 7s rugby with her club team and the City Rep team.
Last season, Mitchell captained her high school team as a senior and was named the school’s rookie of the year during her Grade 10 year.
In club play with the Hornets, she has already played at the senior women’s level with both the Division 1 and Premier teams and participated in 7s tours in Edmonton and Vegas with the Calgary Mavericks.
Mitchell was also one of 12 Albertans named to the list for the Canadian U18 team with fellow incoming Pronghorns Jordan Calladine and Genna Wright.
She also played with the Prairie Wolf Pack U18 squad, a development team that draws players from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
The Pronghorns recruiting class sits at three with the addition of Mitchell.
Freshmen Calladine and Wright were announced earlier this spring and Pronghorns head coach Ric Suggitt expects to have more official announcements in the future.
