The Lethbridge Bulls have started their Saskatchewan road trip off on a losing note.
The Bulls were defeated 5-1 by the Swift Current 57s during Western Major Baseball League play Sunday night in Swift Current.
The loss comes after a double-header sweep over the Medicine Hat Mavericks Friday at Spitz Stadium and puts the Bulls at 21-16 on the season, good for second in the Western Division and four games behind the Okotoks Dawgs (24-11).
The teams were tied 1-1 after three-and-half innings after the 57s took a 1-0 lead in the first and the Bulls tied it up in the top of the fourth but Swift Current struck for three runs in the fifth inning for a 4-1 lead and added one more in the fifth to clinch the win.
The 57s outhit the Bulls 12-6 Sunday.
In the fourth, Bulls right fielder Nolan Handley singled for the Bulls and advanced to second on an error to the pitcher and eventually scored on a Blake MacDonald sacrifice fly to centre field.
Handley hit 2-for-3 with one run scored, while Darius Carter went 2-for-3.
Brady Moxham took the loss for the Bulls, throwing six innings and allowing five runs on 11 hits, giving up no walks and striking out two.
The Bulls continue their road trip when they head to Weyburn to face the Beavers tonight and Tuesday. Game time is 7:05 p.m. both nights.
The road trip heads to Moose Jaw Wednesday and Thursday against the Miller Express.
The Bulls are in Medicine Hat Saturday and return home Sunday to host the Mavericks at 2:05 p.m. at Spitz Stadium.
