A pair of members of the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns women’s rugby team will don the Maple Leaf this summer.

Sydney De La Mare and Abigail Duguid have been named to the Canadian U20 team for the Can-Am series versus United States in Ottawa.

The Canadian and American U20 squads will play a pair of games at Gee-Gees field in Ottawa Aug. 3 and 7.

De La Mare moves up from the Canadian U18 program.

Last summer she travelled to England with the Canadian team to play a pair of games versus the English team. She started game one and was a reserve for game two last summer.

Last season was the first for De La Mare with the Pronghorns as she saw significant time in both the Canada West regular season and sevens series.

The five-foot-10 St. Albert product played mostly in the back row for the Horns, but started at lock with the Canadian U18 program in England last summer.

Duguid, a lock, has suited up previously with the Prairie Wolf Pack, but this will be her first national team appointment.

This fall, the six-foot Edmonton product will enter her third season with the Pronghorns. She was part of the Pronghorn sevens team this past spring that played in the inaugural Canada West Sevens Series.
