W.R. Myers opens with road victory

The Taber W.R. Myers Rebels earned a road win as the boys Southern Alberta High School Volleyball League season began Tuesday night.

The Rebels headed to Coaldale to face the Kate Andrews Pride and earned a 3-1 win (25-22, 25-21, 12-25, 15-17).

Leading the Rebels was Cole Layton with 12 kills, one block and nine aces, while Ethan Schortinghuis added nine kills and one block.

Billy Neustaeder chipped in with seven kills for the Rebels to go along with five blocks.

At LCI, the Rams and Immanuel Christian Eagles pushed it to five sets before the Rams earned a 15-9 win in the fifth set.

In the junior varsity game, LCI posted a 2-0 win (25-18, 25-23).

The Chinook Coyotes started the season with a win at home courtesy a 3-1 decision (25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 25-23) over the Cardston Cougars.

The Coyotes also won the junior varsity game 2-1 (25-21, 12-25, 16-14).

The Magrath Zeniths headed to Winston Churchill and downed the Bulldogs 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-16).

The Bulldogs won the junior varsity game 2-1 (12-25, 25-18, 15-13).

At Catholic Central, the Cougars topped the Picture Butte Sugar Kings 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-12).
