Coyotes complete sweep

The Chinook Coyotes girls volleyball team scored a home sweep during Southern Alberta High School Volleyball League play Wednesday night.

Chinook’s Abigail Gruenhage led the way with seven kills, one block and three aces as the Coyotes notched a 3-0 win (25-22, 25-13, 25-17) over the Immanuel Christian Eagles.

Jade Mierau added four kills for the Coyotes to go along with six aces.

The Coyotes won the junior varsity game 2-0 (25-10, 25-12) as Shaelyn Sauter hit for nine kills and four aces.

In varsity play Wednesday, the Catholic Central Cougars topped the Taber St. Mary’s Auroras 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-20) in Taber, while in Coaldale, the Magrath Zeniths downed the Kate Andrews Pride 3-1 in four close sets (28-26, 25-20, 17-25, 25-21).

In Cardston, the Winston Churchill Griffins and the Cougars went five sets before Winston Churchill earned the win (25-14, 23-25, 17-25, 25-20, 15-9).

For Winston Churchill, Candace Chan had nine kills and two aces, while Maile Funa added eight kills, one block and one ace.

Lauren Platz contributed with six kills and three aces for the Griffins.

Cardston won the junior varsity game 2-0 (25-13, 25-23).
