Cougars power past Lakers

On a foggy night, the Cardston Cougars football team advanced to the Alberta Schools Athletic Association Tier III South Regional final.

The Cougars defeated the Sylvan Lake Lakers 57-7 in quarter-final play Friday night at the University of Lethbridge Stadium.

Taylor Cook paced Cardston with three rushing for 83 yards to lead the Cougars in rushing and Mikhail Moojalsky added a 70-yard return.

Ty Lewis scored on a 15-yard rush, Taylor Barfuss posted a major with a 25-yard interception, Ty Schaffer ran in from five yards out and Chase Shipley added another Cougar touchdown on a 70-yard catch and run.

Justin Mackenzie, Cook and Taren Perry were Cardston’s top tacklers and Shipley was the top receiver.

Barfuss and Schaffer each had one interception and Austen Olsen kicked seven converts and one two-point safety.
