Casey Scheidegger is off to the championship final at the Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Medicine Hat.

Scheidegger and her team of third Carey-Anne McTaggart, second Jessie Scheidegger and lead Kristie Moore, qualifying out of Grande Prairie, downed Calgary’s Chelsea Carey 8-7 during the A-event qualifier in a wild finish.

Carey put up a single in the first end and stole points in the second and third ends for a 3-0 lead.

Scheidegger got one back in the fourth end, but Carey added another single in the fifth for a 4-1 lead at the break.

Then Scheidegger went on the offensive, posting a three-ender in the sixth end to tie it at 4-4 before stealing another two in the seventh for a 6-4 lead.

After a blanked eighth end, Carey scored a three-ender to take a 7-6 lead, but with the hammer coming home Scheidegger put up two to seal the win and the trip to the provincial final at 4:30 p.m. today.

Scheidegger will play the winner of today’s game between Carey and Shannon Kleibrink of Okotoks at 10:30 a.m.

Kleibrink defeated Val Sweeting of Edmonton 8-2 in the C-event qualifier Saturday night.
