Rocky Mountain Turf Club
Looking for something different for Dad this weekend? How about taking in the horse races at Rocky Mountain Turf Club?
Today’s race card kicks off at 6 p.m., while Saturday and Sunday post time is 1:15 p.m.
There’ll be six races tonight, kicked off with a pair of 350-yard quarter-horse dashes, and a featured fourth race covering seven furlongs.
On Saturday the spotlight falls on the fifth race, the All Canadian Open Futurity, covering 300 yards with a guaranteed purse of $7,350.
Sunday features the Alberta Bred Futurity Finals, which will cover 300 yards with a purse of $64,418.
The final race of the weekend is the Open Stake, a seven-furlong run with a purse of $8,500.
For those who like to bet on the rider rather than the horse, you might want to look to Trevor Simpson who moved into first spot from way back, with 29 wins with three weekends to go. Next is line is last year’s Spring Meet champion Larris Allen with 25 wins.
In the race for top trainer, Riley Rycroft is within a single win of Lyle Magnuson. Magnuson has 17 wins while Rycroft has 16. William Leech is the top of the quarter-horse trainer with eight wins to date.
